staff was nice apart from that one night guy
great location
well most of the negative sides were mentioned already, i think common areas require
some refresh as it just looks tired/dirty. The USB ports at my bed were broken so i couldn’t charge anything. probably i would not complain about all that for the average price, but for some reason i was charged 65 pounds/night for one bed in 6 bed room (that’s without breakfast) and that was waaaaay overpriced. maybe it’s holiday pricing, but still… unpleasant.
another weird thing is that one night a guy from the reception entered our room (female dormitory! at night!), he loudly knocked, then said out loud something like ‘roomcheck’ and stayed there while constantly rattling with his keys. THAT REPEATED TWICE AND IT WAS 2 AM. for the second time he returned with a cleaning lady. da heck was that?? as i understood it had something to do with a new guest - she just arrived and discovered that her bed was occupied or something. OK but why he couldn’t just send the cleaning lady alone in the first place to change the bed quietly why all that mess when everyone was sleeping?? unacceptable

The hostel is right in the center, close to Royal Mile, Princes Street, but also train and bus stations. Lockers in the room and a bathroom inside the room.
The beds are very small, that you can't even sit uo without hitting your head. You also feel every move of the other people on the bed. There is a locker, but it is very small. The bathroom is small, there is no hook to at least hang your towel. The bathroom also wasn't very clean. Also we booked a female dorm, one night at midnight our privacy was violated by a male staff, who walked inside the room without knocking or announcing himself and started cleaning the bathroom. We woke up to male voices who was discussing something with another guest in the room. This felt very violating and uncomfortable. The opening of the door was very old fashioned - other rooms opened by card, but we had to input code and it didn't always open.

She is always smiling with costumes. Wonderful!
There is no washing hands area in the chill out room!

Messy and uninviting common areas.

Excellent location, quick and streamlined check in/out system. Staff were lovely and helpful, breakfast was delicious, and value for money was unbelievable.
Top bunk bed during first stay had a paper-thin mattress. Difficult to sleep, although nice and quiet

I'm very liked the location of the hostel as it was only 350 yards from the city centre.
In my opinion, I didn't very like the fact that I cannot be able to close the windows and how slow the heater comes on.

The location and the staff are friendly .
They let check ind Any time of the day and the worst after midnight when everyone are sleeping. And suddendly they come ind and open the light in the room .All of us wake up. Some makes noise iwhen they come ind.
1st time to have 6 persons in the room but they should not allowed somebody to check ind after midnight. Or make a time schedule for check ind.

Love the fact beds were clean and comfy and people were very respective and also very helpful...
Only bad points about the room is that no mirror has been provided for costumers and no hairdryer's also...the fact bathroom was the same for both men and women was a little bit weird also

great location, nice staff, good value
could use a chair in the rooms, there’s no place to sit and the bunk beds for 3 only fit you if you lie down fully

Staff were polite and the WiFi was good.
This is the worst hostel I have stayed in. I stayed in a female only 6 bed dorm. The 3 high bunks were so cramped that there wasn't even space to sit up in bed, it was almost like a prison camp. The floor was so squeaky that it was impossible to quietly get dressed or ready in the morning without disturbing fellow guests and there was nowhere to change clothes easily.
The bathroom was tiny with no space to hang clothes. The shower was either freezing cold or boiling hot for the duration of my stay. The bathroom floor was absolutely disgusting and looks like it's never seen a mop, it just straight up needs replacing.
The locker room/chillout room was terrible. It smelled like microwaved food, BO amd feet. Every time I went in there I felt unsafe as a solo female traveller. There were always weird guys slumped on wooden chairs in the corners of the room, It felt very threatening, not a place I wanted to spend any length of time in.
This hostel has a great location but, unfortunately that's all it has to recommend it. Unless you're absolutely strapped for cash, spend a little extra money and get a good night's sleep and peace of mind. This place really needs to do better. I know that hostels are the budget option but I still expect the bare essentials to be covered and at present the St Christopher's is not providing value for money.

Location. Staffs. Elevator. Hot shower. Free toiletries. They provided 2 towels in the double room. Laundry area.
We stayed in a double room with a private bathroom up in the attic - with a single slope ceiling that cost £531 for 3 nights. The room was tiny! We booked the specific room because the bed in the picture didn’t have a footboard top rail but we got a bed that has one. So my partner who is 198cm was very uncomfortable. For the first 2 nights, we were awaken around 1am or 2am from the noise of our neighbors. I mean we get it, it’s an old building and soundproofing is not the best in hostels, and we don’t mind the small talks we hear from the other rooms, it’s the loud banging of doors in the middle of the night and talking so loud in the hallway like it’s not 2am and people are sleeping!
No bathroom mats/ rugs, so the floor gets wet after showering.
If you want comfort, then put your moolah somewhere else. But hey, Edinburgh’s accommodation are relatively pretty expensive.

Great location and nice atmosphere, friendly staff. I wouldn’t say it is the most luxurious place to stay but the price is very reasonable and the room is clean with a comfy bed.

Location was amazing and probably the best part about the hostel, and for being so central it really wasn't that noisy. We stayed in a 6-person dorm and booked it out fully, and it was good, if not a little cramped when we were all getting ready. Very clean and appreciated that it had a lift. A good alternative to expensive hotels in Edinburgh especially if you are travelling in a bigger group and don't mind compromising on some things.
We stayed in a 6-person dorm and booked it out fully, and it was good, if not a little cramped when we were all getting ready. The beds were a little steep if you are staying on the top bunk so keep that in mind if you have mobility issues but it really wasn't a problem for us - the bunk beds were actually quite fun! The check in was a bit of a hassle and took a while but other than that most things were pretty good. Breakfast was advertised at the café next door but we were told hot food didn't actually start being served till 12 which was really disappointing, so we only had coffee.
