We went for an upmarket cloud forest experience - mission accomplished.
Kapari is by itself on the side of a slope leading down to the Rio Blanco. The forest there (there's a lot of it!), all the way to the river at least, is owned by Kapari, and there are well laid out paths all over. The hotel was super clean - no mean feat in the jungle! Rooms were large with basic facilities (no TV etc.) and very limited wifi with better wifi near reception. There were pretty modern, nice bathrooms, comfy big beds and our room looked out over the whole valley uninterrupted, which was breathtaking. The hotel grounds are studded with native plants and flowering bushes - very beautiful. There are 2 main feeder sites/hides for birds (and at least 2 others which were smaller). The lower one nearer the jungle was outstanding, attracting mammals as well. You could spend the whole day there. There were 4 free optional walks a day - all were worthwhile. The night one was an experience - lots of cool and somewhat scary things! There were always four or more choices of food - but we found the kitchen was very flexible on sauce type etc. and willing to accommodate any requests. The quality was as good or better as any around. The cerviche palmitta is not to be missed! The staff - and I'll mention Jose (front office), Adrian (restaurant) and Gabriel (guide) - were awesome. They could not be more helpful. We had a really good experience here - I took over 600 photos a day of the fauna (mainly birds).
The road to the cloud forest is very beautiful but slow and dangerous. If you want to go anywhere in Mindo, Los Bancos (Kapari's location) etc., you have to take it. The wifi/phone signal was weak - if that matters to you (good enough for Email). It seems to be that way in most of Ecuador!

Plan on staying multi days so much to see!
Lovely views from balcony. Rooms very comfortable. We went on guided hike the night we arrived very informative.
This hotel is located about 2.5 hours from Quito. The 2 lane road is full of potholes. The trucks have a hard time going up the hills so traffic is slow and the road congested in places. Allow ample time to arrive.

Huge disappointment - Sumamente decepcionante.
The only positive part was the tourist guide, who was very attentive, nice and friendly to us. However, at our nocturnal walk amongst the natural paths, he warned us of the presence of snakes, tarantulas and even a puma. My husband and I were unsure if he was joking. Yet, we opted to leave the walk, as I refused to expose my baby to those dangers. Please allow me to warn you of a lengthy review ahead. I booked a two-night stay at this hotel based on the 9.3 rating and good reviews. Hence, I had high expectations. NOT MET AT ALL. Upon arrival, we waited 10 mins for someone to open the entrance door. The highly unfriendly receptionist refused to acknowledge, greet or even welcome us. My husband and I politely opted to greet her instead. I mentioned my name and reservation details. She took us to our room, simply gave us the key and left. She didn't bother to check if we had any questions or queries about anything whatsoever. After driving for 3 hours in hot weather, my family and I just wanted to rest before doing any activities. Despite paying a room with cable TV, none of the channels worked. We called reception to tell the receptionist about the inconvenience with the TV and the same lady carelessly mentioned that it was due to the weather. (after insisting, she sent a technician within almost an hour later who fixed the TV within a matter of minutes, she simply refused to help us) I also asked her for the Wi-Fi password and she gave me the wrong one three times. I had to ask one of the waiters who kindly gave me the correct one. I requested bath salts for our jacuzzi, she complied and hung up the phone quickly, not giving me a chance to ask her any more questions. Soon, we learned that there were several problems with our room. The bathroom door would not close, the wardrobe door would get stuck, the sink was clogged, the jacuzzi looked slightly greasy and the room had a very awkward arrangement, as you had no privacy at all without the blind.
Our room looked nothing like it did in the photos, there was no river view as stated and no hammock, as shown when reserving the room. Employees and other guests walked past constantly. As a result, each and every single time we changed, wanted privacy or left the room, we had to roll down the blind. After this, we were only left with artificial light and not a chance to see the nature from the comfort of our own room. Then, the lightbulb broke down so we were left with the light from our phones. When I complained to the receptionist, she said that we should have informed her. I told her that this would have had no purpose, as she had not helped us whatsoever since we arrived. The breakfast was tiny, they gave us the smallest portion of yoghurt and muesli ever and the milkshake was freezing cold. We were left so unsatisfied and even hungry considering each meal was worth almost $30 per person. We opted to drive to the nearest town instead, the food was inexpensive but terrible. I'm perfectly aware that this is not the hotel's fault, but I think it's helpful for any potential guests to be aware. Due to all this, we decided to leave early. The receptionist wanted to force us to stay the two nights and said that she would call management to authorise us to leave. The nerve! I firmly rejected her declaration, alleging that the hotel did not meet the conditions it established and all the problems with our room prompted us to leave earlier. I paid and stayed for 1, leaving even before checkout. She then insisted on us paying a 17% fee for not staying both nights, which I again refused. My husband also had to remind her that I slipped and fell down the stairs leaving the restaurant, with my baby in arms! (this immediately made the receptionist accept and authorise our departure) There was no warning at all that there was a slippery floor and although nothing serious happened to us, the possibility that my baby could have been harmed was enough to outrage me!
