The pool with the wather slides are exciting for kids between 3 and 8…. Older kids might get a bit bored.
Our room was not properly cleaned. Bed sheets only got changed after I have removed them myself and left them on the floor - together with the dirty towels. Also, the beach towels are only exchanged every 3 days which is unhygienic and not common practice in other properties. The hotel has a capacity for 800 people and beginning of July this number was not maxed out. Still, it was so insanely crowded in the restaurant and also the pool area where it was hard to keep your kids in sight. Also worth to point out that there is no lifeguard neither at the pool area nor at the beach. Especially when it gets that crowded, this could be a potential risk. It’s pretty difficult to get in and out of the sea.

Die Auswahl und Qualität des Essens. Tolle Pools v.a.

Welcome - We arrived later than expected at the Petra Mare and although the main restaurant was closed, their staff had saved us a delicious Greek supper - very welcome after a long day's travel & a great start to our holiday.
The Resort - During our stay in May 2023 most of the guests were either German & Polish, mostly small families with pre-school children. We did see a very few French people there during our week's stay but I think we were the only British guests. However English was the main language used.
Outside - Plenty of comfortable sunbeds on both the decking and on the real grass lawns, plus a convenient poolside snack-bar that served food & drinks all day. The main swimming pool was large, clean & reasonably warm for May, with plenty of space to swim lengths, plus a very good kids pool too. Easy access to the sea with more sunbeds, tables & sun shades on the beach.
Food - The Petra Mare consistently served a remarkable range of international dishes at every meal - the food was always well prepared, nicely presented & very tasty - so much better than we might have expected at an all-inclusive hotel.
Drinks - The self-service beer was always on tap throughout the day & was perfectly refreshing. Their own-brand Rose & the cocktails were also perfectly drinkable. There were also plenty of good self-service coffee & soft drinks dispensers throughout the day.
The own brand red wine was not very pleasant, but the white wine was slightly better & we liked the Rose.
Our week's stay included one complimentary meal that we had to pre-book at the in-house Chinese Restaurant and we were looking forward to something special. Although the staff did make an effort, and the quality of the food was good, we thought the menu was very limited & the service was quite slow, so it really did not feel like a special occasion. The location of this restaurant is outdoors by the main entrance & we felt it was in the wrong area with no view - to improve the ambiance the management might want to consider moving it to the terrace overlooking the sea?

Love the property and location. loved that it was near the sea, and we could swim and use beach chairs. Loved having a bunch bar and inclusive feature of the property. wonderful to have a grocery store next-door and the gift shop and the promenade to the stores was a great walk.
Definitely need some more washrooms as it seems like you’re walking from one into the other. You need one near the restaurants.

Nice rooms in the sea front line with nice views and good installations. The buffet was very good, with many options and the breakfast superb. The personnel were friendly and the price reasonable.
We arrived before 19:00 in the end of May and could not swim in the warm pool because it was already closed. The cold sea was not a good alternative yet.
The hotel has no parking, so you must park outside.

Excellent meal

Staff were excellent especially Maria at reception, room was excellent, food and drink were outstanding and in abundance. Position of on the beach was great and the pool area was fantastic.
Didn't cater for British people. I think we were the only ones there, maybe a few more. 55 Chanels on the TV and only one BBC news for us. No entertainment during the evening only for children and families (in German or French).

Excellent value for money
Large swimming pool for adults
Kids like the water slides
Food was great
The room was quite small but very functional
Restaurant wasn't so crowded when you ate later. Unfortunately selection wasn't so wide then.

Very helpful stuff, and animators!
hardly anything to complain about

Staff was very friendly and helpful to plan our trips.
There was at all times a place to get food and drinks (all inclusive).
Very nice pool and nice beach with sunbeds
Very big shower with two heads for two people.
Great activity opportunities (Table Tennis, Pool Billard,...)
The two restaurants in the Hotel were very good.
On the all inclusive buffet, there were no labels for the food so you don't know what's in front of you (also no vegetarian labels).
The toilet seat in our room had some disgusting stains on it that couldnt be cleaned (should be replaced).
The doors to the rooms are badly insulated so in the morning it is very noisy from all the kids running around in the hallway.
We only got 1 litre of water per day for free and had to pay if we wanted to get another bottle in our room.
We could only get our beach towels changed every 3 days.
In the eating area, the chairs and tables are all put very tightly so there is not much room to sit. Especially comparing to the amazing lobby, the dining area lacks style and reminds of a cheap canteen.

Fantastic place to be. This hotel is a nice place to be with your family having kids.
We enjoyed every moments at this hotel. Staffs, Animation Team, Cleaning staffs and everyone at this hotel put up efforts to make your stay wonderful.
Food is fantastic with lot of varieties.
We were also upgraded to the Sea side view for our room. Special thanks to the reception staffs (Maria) who offered care to us beyond the boundaries.

Great service. The pools are so fun . Paradise for children. Maria at the reception is lovely- she made us feel at home. Thank you for everything
The first floor is with no light and at first we got a beautiful room in front of the sea like we ordered but unfortunately was with really bad air-condition at August . We went to the reception and they offered us another two options- at the end we had to choose a room with no view to the sea but with good air-conditioning. Eventually we enjoyed very much and we will come back

Nice hotel. Rooms are nice, with sea view of the Ierapetra bay. The beach of the hotel is also nice and great for swimming. Service at the restaurants, shops and reception was excellent and nice. The food was one of the best we had as compared to other all-inclusive hotels we have been.
I would reccomend the hotel to people with children below 10 years old, older children could get bored, since the animation is focused on toddlers and small children, or adults.
The cleaning ladys woke us up several days quite early by entering the room without knocking.
Animation is quite amateurial as compared to other hotels we have been.
The water in the pool is not superclean at the end of the day and it smells.
Super expensive water animations, as compared to other places in Greece.
Ierapetra is not one of the nicest towns in Crete, we have already been in Chania, Rethymon or Agios Nikolaos (way nicer than Ierapetra) and therefore for us it was not an issue (we just wanted an hotel with nice food and nice beach), but in case you need a nicer town to wander around or doing shopping, Ierapetra is just not for you.

Everything was new, clean and stylish. Especially for children they had a lot fun stuff to do. We liked our room with the view. Buffed had everything you could wish for.
The kids animation should rethink what games they play with the kids. A game in which all kids loose because of holding a ball is devastating for these little souls especially when they don't understand why because of language barriers.

Food was delicious, we used the free voucher for the traditional 10 course Cretan dinner and it was the best! Unlimited drinks. The pool was stunning. Great views of the ocean! Lots of activities including dancing. Big rooms, big TV!
Didn't have a private parking lot. We had to park our rental on the side of the road. Lots of screaming kids everywhere. The AC in room took awhile to cool.

Everything was great but especially the staff. The receptionist, Rania, was particularly helpful. The food was also noteworthy - plentiful and exceptionally well prepared.
I have nothing to complain about.

The location was beautiful , south of the island allowing maximum sunshine and sunsets. Lovely views of Ierápetra and nearby supermarket and gift shops were only a few steps away if needed. The choice of food was always great and the restaurant looked out over the sea creating a marvellous back drop. The hotel catered really well and thoughtfully for families. We were a couple and were offered an adult only section for dining which was also thoughtful.
We stayed just before the season finished and we noticed that the nearer we got to the end of the holiday the amount of food and choice diminished so it was better to eat earlier than later which wasn’t really our preference.

The hotel is fully renovated, and the design is adorable. There are lots of different places where everyone can feel comfortable and enjoy silence or a sea view. The staff is friendly and very helpful, all my requests were resolved immediately. The hotel possesses its own beach - it's not very big but you can always find available sunbeds there. The restaurant and food are great! Every day there were selections of tons of different courses. I was using SPA services as well and it's awesome! A special thanks to the entertainment team - Sara, Chiara, Sandro, Federico, and Irene. The guys made my stay unforgettable! Indeed, that was a perfect vacation.

The location right at the beach, the infinity pool, friendly staff
The food (bland, and found a hair in our food twice... ), and the drinks. You could only get the cheapest drinks, the better drinks were at extra charge.. Not what we expected of all inclusive
4.4 / 5.0
The property was so clean! The view from our sea view room was absolutely amazing, breathtaking and the room was nice and modern with lots of space. I had a fab massage and the people were great, the entertainment team were all from Italy and they were really nice people who made you feel so welcome and were great to talk too.
The food got a bit repetitive for me personally but maybe because we were the only English couple the food was very catered to other Europeans I felt like. The smell put me off but I suppose they can’t help it because of all the different types of food being together.
The new spa facilities weren’t in use because of covid but again not their fault.

We had an absolutely lovely stay at Petra Mare for our honeymoon. Everyone was really kind and helpful and made sure we felt welcome. The food was one of the best I've had in any hotel anywhere else. The room was nice, and we loved the sea view - and falling asleep to the sound of waves.
The only thing that could be improved was cleaning - it was a bit random and not very thorough for the entire stay. Sometimes we had to ask to change the beach towels, and then we would get too many, or we had to ask for more toiletries as they were not replaced.

Wonderful all inclusive. Easy walk to town. Great rooms. Wide variety of food and drink choices. Highly recommend.
Street parking but easy to find.
