Excellent location, friendly hosts, and good food. Best of all was that you could explore the castle on your own after visiting hours, which is a huge perk as a hotel guest. I loved it, I'll be back!

Me and my son made a tour around Fränkische Alp to look at castles and other historical landmarks. We also stayed in some of the castles. We were focusing especially on castles with a more "medieval" appearance rather than later palaces. Burg Katzenstein was a wonderful place to stay. It had everything we were looking for. The restauration had been made very nicely keeping the medieval character. The castle also included nice museum parts, and everything from a quite scary tower (the stairs felt as from the days the castle was built) to an equally scary dungeon (entered through a narrow tunnel). The bedroom was nice, very spacious, light and clean. Very nice staff (but it helped to know some German). Nice breakfast and good choice also for food for dinner. Good location only 20 min by car from lovely Nördlingen. Nice, large, firm kingsize beds.
Considering the very large size of the room (nice!) the downside is that it felt a bit sparsely furnished. We lacked a bed table, bed lamp, and maybe some more furniture to make it less empty. It would also have been good too if the curtains could cover the window a little better (in the summer the room was bright from early morning). But at the same time I respect if the curtains were selected to fit better with the historic character.

liked the castle idea
nothing really, parking was a little concern but wouldn’t deter from doing again

We have a good time spent a night in the Burg Katzenstein. The room was clean and spacious. The owner is kind and her homemade food is delicious.

The castle was super cute, comfortable, and gave us that medieval castle feeling we were looking for! My partner and I enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful and quiet courtyard with a beer, before going to bed.
The property and experience was exactly what we wanted! Nothing to dislike about this place.

quite exceptional for the kids to stay in a castle and to visit the tower, look for the ghost, at our own pace.

What a unique experience! Staying overnight in a real castle. The room was great. Big room with everything you need. Very clean. The staff (the owners Roswitha and Michael) were great. Very hospitable and kind. Very good food and a great value. A tour of the castle is included in your stay. In the country so very quiet and peaceful. Just what we needed on our journey on the romantic road/ castle route.

We spent one night in this hotel, which is located into a wing of the beautiful castle.
The room was comfortable and clean, the windows (small... it’s a medieval castle, after all) offering a view of the courtyard and the surrounding areas.
An abundant breakfast was offered in the morning, and we had the chance to chat with the owners of the place, which are funny and jolly.
We decided to have our dinner at the restaurant, and we were very happy with quality and quantity. Recommended!

The location was superb - actually staying within the walls of the castle was a memorable experience. The castle itself is well worth looking round.
The breakfast was simple and could have been more expensive but it was ok
