About this house rental
Vila Serena is located on the edge of Praia da Luz, one of the best coastal villages on the western Algarve. Luz has its own beautiful beach but within 30 minutes there are dozens of beaches – some of which have very few visitors, even in the Summer.
When the estate agent took us up to the second-floor roof-terrace and we gazed over the sunlit pools, beautiful gardens, palm trees and blue sea we knew this was going to be the perfect holiday home.
The villa is one of 16 sited in extensive beautiful gardens that encloses a huge swimming pool with linked children’s pool and loads of grass for sunbathing and BBQs.
The first floor has two bedrooms, one with a veranda, and a bathroom with loo, bidet, washbasin and newly-installed walk-in shower. A baby bath is available and two travel cots with bedding.
Bedroom three has an adjacent loo and shower and is on the ground floor.
The roof terrace has sunbeds, perfect for all-over suntans
The living room is open plan with a dining area. The Smart TV will supply most channels – BBC, ITV, Sky Sports, Cinema, Netflix, Amazon Prime and local channels. There are plenty of books and board games. The log-fire is wonderful in the winter. The Wifi is Superfast cable and consistently runs at 250+ MBS.
The double doors lead to the wide sunny patio garden with dining gear and comfortable garden furniture to cover all forms of relaxation. There are parasols to shade the sun. Each patio is enclosed with hedges. Out front there’s a sheltered parking space for a car.
The kitchen has an oven, 4-ring ceramic hob, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge-freezer and is well stocked with cutlery and glasses. Children’s mugs and plates are supplied, including cafetiere and a teapot.
All linens and towels - including beach towels - are supplied. Given how quickly clothes dry in the Algarve sun, you can fly out with hand-luggage only! There’s a cupboard bursting with buckets & spades and all the gear you’ll need for the gorgeous beaches. And a BBQ. In the Algarve, everything is on a hill, but there is a bus service which is reliable.
Next to Vila Serena there is an Indian restaurant and an hotel restaurant. 15 minutes’ walk away in the village of Luz there are café’s, bars and restaurants of every description offering everything from sardines to prime steaks, pub pints to classy cocktails. And the Ice Cream Factory is an absolute must.
A short bus ride away or 15 minutes’ drive is the town of Lagos, one of the fastest growing towns in Europe with people moving from all over Europe and northern Portugal. Here you can access countless boat trips, the marina and loads of restaurants.
Our caretaker Joao will, if you call from the airport, meet you at the front door to show you in. He can provide a welcome pack if your arrival is too late to catch the excellent local Baptista supermarket five minutes’ away.
During longer stays, Joao and his team will, for a fee, freshen up the house and change sheets/towels.
We’ve tried to make a ‘home from home’ experience for our guests, and many return year after year. They love the detail in the house – coat hangers, cheese grater, clothes pegs, digital radio, measuring jug– let us know if we can add anything.

Perfecta la casa. Todo impecable, limpio, nuevo y muy bien organizado. Casa muy agradable con un muy acogedor porche y muy bonita piscina. Urbanización muy tranquila. Praia da Luz, pueblo tranquilo, agradable y con una buena playa. Sitio ideal para unas vacaciones relajadas y conocer el Algarve.

Beautiful area and one feels at home right away! We liked very much the swimming pool area and the neighborhood ... to go to the beach, it is better to drive by car (specially if you have kids like us because the beach is not too far away but up hill). Bill was always very helpful and answers right away. The people from the neighborhood were also very nice.

Wow what a fantastic holiday villa. Villa serena exceeded our expectations- clean, well furnished and very well equipped. The owners were so helpful and quick to respond prior to our visit. We enjoyed the quiet pool and the fact we had loungers that were just ours and enjoyed dining on the sun terrace and using the bbq. Loved that our towels were refreshed half way through our stay. The surrounding gardens are immaculately kept too. It's a short stroll into the small local town or a ten minute taxi Into larger lagos. you are looking for a chilled out holiday I cannot recommend this highly enough.

Wow what a fantastic holiday villa. Villa serena exceeded our expectations- clean, well furnished and very well equipped. The owners were so helpful and quick to respond prior to our visit. We enjoyed the quiet pool and the fact we had loungers that were just ours and enjoyed dining on the sun terrace and using the bbq. Loved that our towels were refreshed half way through our stay. Excelleny villa in great location
My wife and I stayed in Bill & Stephanie's villa for a 3 week holiday in June 2016. We have stayed before and also in another house on Vila Serena so we know the area quite well. The whole holiday experience was superb and the house so well presented. Cleaners attended frequently to change bedding and towels and we were shown in by Joao who was very knowledgeable and spoke English well. Vila Serena is beautifully maintained and the new large patio is wonderful with sun all day from 11.00am. The pool area is great and of course the sun is there all day.
We especially loved walking over the cliffs to Burgau and then sitting in the beach bar with coffee etc. West coast beaches had great surf and South coast beaches were gentle and quite flat.
A car is not really necessary but we got so much more out of the holiday by having one.
A brilliant holiday experience and we will return soon.

We have had the pleasure of staying here a few times now and we always said we would never go back to the same place twice! This says it all really! A lovely place to stay, the accommodation is perfect as is the surrounding gardens and pool area. Local bars and restaurants are a 10 minute walk down the hill. Stephanie and Bill have always been so helpful with all our bookings and everything has always gone so smoothly. Thanks for a perfect holiday.

This lovely house was everything we expected. The area is great, the pool was perfect - some days we were the only ones there. The house was spotless and midweek we even had maids come by with fresh towels.
Our communication with the owners was also very good.
We highly recommend this house, the owners and the caretaker.

Fantastische villa voor een zorgeloze vakantie
Wat een heerlijke villa om je vakantie door te brengen zonder zorgen.
Alles wat je mag verwachten van villa heeft deze villa (2 grote slaapkamers, 2 badkamers, dakterrras, balkon, keuken, woon/eetkamer, terras met stoelen en tafel).
Groot zwembad wat je met andere villa's moet delen, alleen hebben wij ze niet gezien. Heerlijk een zwembad voor je zelf, als er maximaal 6 mensen aan het zwemmen waren was het druk.
Heerlijk om op je eigen zonnestoelen bij het zwembad te hebben.
Elke ochtend verse broodjes kopen bij de Baptista supermarkt op 10 minuten lopen van de villa.
Een auto is een aanrader om die te huren en de omgeving te gaan verkennen.
Grote supermarkten (Intermaché, Lidl en Aldi) op 10 minuten rijden met de auto in de plaats Lagos.
In Luz ook voldoende eetgelegenheden om de trek te stillen.
Het strand bevindt zich op ongeveer 13 minuten lopen van de villa maar is goed te doen, heerlijk zonnebaden of even lekker banjeren langs het zeewater.
Wat ons (2 volwassenen en 2 meiden 9 en 6 jaar oud) betreft voor herhaling vatbaar, nogmaals een heerlijke villa om een heerlijke vakantie te hebben.

Fanstatic Holiday!
We had a fantastic holiday. The villa was perfect and included everything we needed. It was very clean and beautifully decorated with an amazing roof terrace (perfect for sunbathing)! The complex was well maintained and the pool was excellent set in a lovely garden area.
Luz itself was brilliant, everyone was friendly and the food was delicious in every restaurant we visited. The beach is gorgeous and very pictuesque, our little one loved it!
We would recommend this villa to everyone but especially families!
Thank you Bill and Steph for a holiday to remember.

Lovely apartment and relaxing holiday
The apartment was just as it was described in the advert and, if anything, the photos don't do it justice! It's comfortable, clean and equipped with everything you need. The pool is large and the sunbathing areas around it never felt cramped - even in the middle of August. Each apartment has its own loungers for around the pool which means there's never a race to reserve a space. The views over the bay are spectacular, especially from the roof terrace. It's an easy 5 minute walk down to the supermarket (not so easy uphill on the way back but keeps you fit!) and Baptista has everything you need. Plenty of nice restaurants within easy reach. Perfect for a relaxing holiday, with just enough other families around for the children to make friends, but not so many that you feel overcrowded. The beach was busy, especially on our first week when the Portugese were also on holiday, so we didn't venture down there much but no one minded because the pool area was so nice. A lovely holiday and we were very sad to leave!

Beautiful Villa in perfect location
Have just returned after a fantastic week in Luz. The villa is in a quiet development - the pool is just steps from the back door and we had it to ourselves most days. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is located at the top of a steep hill however my 74 year old father managed the hill easily several times each day! The owners not only have equipped the villa to a high standard but left their invaluable recommendations for local restaurants. Luz has the perfect balance of a beautiful beach, quiet village and upmarket (but excellent value) restaurants. We would happily return to both Luz and Vila Serena again.

A Home from Home
This is not your average holiday accomodation; the owners have made the effort to provide the extras that make a house a home, for example, toiletries in the bathroom, decent dvds and games for the children; it is immaculate and comfortable. We all (2 adults, 4 childen) loved our stay here, we particularly enjoyed the pool which was practically deserted.
The village location is perfect for families with young children who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of larger resorts. There are plenty of great restaurants within walking distance, the highlight for us was tucking into 'cataplana' on the terrace of the Fortaleza restaurant, watching the sun set over the sea.
It's not necessary to hire a car here, we were able to travel up the coast and inland to the zoo using public transport.
We have no hesitation in recommending Vila Serena, a charming home in a peaceful location.

Home from home...
We have just spent an enjoyable week at this property for the October half term. We loved the house and felt at home as soon as we walked in. It is very nicely furnished and felt very spacious for just the four of us. The roof terrace was a welcome place to hang out, read, eat and sunbathe. It's worth noting that the property is at the top of a fairly steep hill from the main town and beach. This was fine for us but I was glad I hadn't taken my mum! It was great to have a TV, DVD and satellite channels - especially since it did rain a couple of times. Also good provision of books and games available. The town itself contains a number of restaurants but we did feel it was quite hard to find more basic fare at reasonable prices for discerning teenagers! Still, we had a great break and would definitely recommend the lovely accommodation.

Een prima huisje, met alles erop en eraan. Prachtig zwembad. Algarve is natuurlijk wel erg "Engels"..maar dat is voor ons geen probleem. Luz is een aardig dorp met een aantal leuke restaurantjes, maar verder niet veel te doen. Lagos is veel leuker met meer actie.
Genoeg strandjes in de omgeving en een prima locatie voor zon, zee en rust.

A spacious town house in the most beautiful exclusive setting of only 26 houses. Everything you need in the apartment makes this home from home.I particularly enjoyed the balcony off the main bedroom, overlooking the area, palm trees and sea, and the third floor terrace dining area. The two shower rooms were very useful when we all wanted to get out in a hurry. The boys (aged 12) loved watching SKY TV when it got too hot. We all loved the wonderful pool area. And the whole complex is calm and quiet with never more than a handful of people in the pool area. Location - excellent- outskirts of town, yet a healthy stroll to the shops / beach. We will be back!

Had a fabulous time! home from home..every need catered for and very family friendly..immaculately clean and communication with owners great, very friendly and informative which made our stay easier ..went out of their way to provide us with info and tips to make our stay as enjoyable as possible, even providing advivce on local car hire etc.
Lovely little town, peaceful little get away...perfect. Would definately return..

Just like 5 fruit a day it makes you feel better and healthier! The house is comfortable, clean and convenient for the superb pool and the great Chinese Restaurant on the complex. You can relax in your own little garden or by the pool (I read 5 books so you can see how relaxed I was!).
It's peace and quiet without isolation - the front is 10 mins walk and is lively without being too much. Lots of good restaurants - the best being Valentinos near the front - good value and great service.
The surrounding attractions if you have a car are superb - Bergau, Alvor, Monchique, Sagres and Silves to name a few. There's markets for all tastes in Lagos and water parks for the kids.
A great holiday for total relaxation and fun. Definitely want to go again - maybe next winter, Steph?!

The apartment was excellent and just as described.
Everything was provided even down to a hot water bottle!
The property was clean and very well maintained.
There was a very good choice of restaurants including an excellent Chinse one on site.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this apartment to friends and family. A fabulous holiday.
