It was a wonderful stay. We had booked a half board (about an 8 course private dinner) and private, semi-open air onsen in our room. The onsen was wonderful and we were able to see outside as we took our hot spring bath. The rooms were wonderful and the staff was amazing. The dinner we had there was delicious and I could not even finish my meal but the experience was great, and I would do it again. There is a shuttle that takes you back and fourth from the hotel to the train station but please do check with the staff on time. When we made it to the station it was a bit late, so we took a taxi to the hotel.
There is nothing the hotel can do about this but it is a little far but well worth the travel.

Beautiful hotel with professional staff.
Was unclear about bus schedules so we had to walk to and from the hotel to the station.

とにかくお料理が抜群に美味しかったです。
朝食のブュッフェと夕食の懐石料理共に、美味しくて幸せな時間でした。
ビンゴゲームの時に、1階のフロアがとても蒸し蒸しして暑かった。

I loved everything about Yumotokan. It was my 2nd time staying at their accomodation.
Everyone is friendly, the staff were very professional and welcoming. They treat you very well, take care of you as if you were a king/queen. I really do appreciate all the staff there who made my 2nd visit welcoming & fun! The onsens were beautiful & relaxing. Food prepared by chef tasted so fresh & delicious. Rooms are huge & very japanese traditional style.
I would definately come back in the future.
There are no cons.

Traditional Japanese ryokan with a rooftop spa and a thousand course dinner :-)
The price of both for the hotel stay and for the lovely dinner were a too high for the experience.
It took a really long time before we were admitted to our room from the check-in.

There are 4 different onsens (alternating male and female each day) which you can enjoy with two outdoors with lovely view of Lake Biwa. Kaiseke dinner was beautiful with numerous courses including sabu sabu, yakitori, sashimi and many more. Breakfast was the same, veyr Left feeling very full.
This feels more like a hotel-ryokan hybrid and the building and the facilities are quite old. The changing rooms in the onsen is also lacking in amenities that is usually provided at other ryokans. The onsens are also quite small.
The hotel location is also in a weird area of town and the land is quite barren and surrounding buildings look quite run down. If your room is in the lower floors, your view will just be of the parking lot.

It’s a standard Onsen hotel with indoor and outdoor onsen and traditional style Japaneses room.
Polite and forthcoming staff.
Front desk staff seems not to be experienced. She took our passports and left them unattended at counter and had us wait in another area that was impossible to overlook. Did not return to us until I found it out. Also mishandle booking with kids and did not provide kids size Yukada / slippers / meal. The worst was that I lost 30K of JPY cash left in room while we went down in hotel dining room for an hour dinner ( food were not impressive either). It wasn’t a big money but this worried me a lot as I never had any safety concern while travelling in Japan in the past two decades. If you were to enjoy a peaceful onsen holiday this will be the last one you consider. Otherwise never leave your belongings in room during their room service time.

Spacious room and great hot spring. The staff was helpful
May not be convenient for customers who take public transport.

Lots of onsen options and delicious dining!
Requires taxi or bus to go from train station to property.

Very nice ryokan with great onsen.
We have had an exceptionally wonderful and very spacious room.
Staff was very friendly.
We have had breakfast and dinner, both have been exceptional.
Time to take dinner and lunch is too short!
Especially when we had breakfast which consisted of several dishes we were a bit confused when at 9:35 we were told that we have only 10 more minutes to finish breakfast.
We felt rushed. The time span to eat is way too short for the quality and variety of food that you are being served.

Everything here was just amazing. When we first checked in, they made the mistake of assigning us to the room where other people were already in. But as soon as they realised they made the mistake, they quickly assigned us to another room and even offered us free drinks. The dinner was fantastic, and we were all very satisfied and full after dinner. There were three different onsens that I could enjoy during the stay. Both open-air onsens were beautiful and possibly one of the best onsens I've been to. The breakfast was also amazing!

Just amazing - dinner and breakfast served exceptionally well in a private room. Onsen bath experience is awesome. We switched over to this hotel due to online positive reviews. Would love to come back again every time we visit Kyoto. 20 min train ride out to the bay area, but worth it.

Dinner n Breakfast were good.
Room is rather dark in the night as there seems to be lack of lights in the room.
I found out later that my luggage was wrongly sent to Yumotokan Hotel by Nippon Kansai hotel instead of Hikone Castle Spa n Resort hotel. The staff was of Nippon Kansai Hotel has filled in Yumotokan hotel address instead of Hikone Castle Spa n Resort hotel. The staff of Yumotokan Hotel took the trouble to inform Hikone Castle Spa and Resort and also took the trouble to arrange for our luggage to be forwarded to Nagoya JR Tower Gate Hotel to arrive on the 15th May. The trouble the staff of Yumotokan Hotel went through to make the forwarding of our luggages is much appreciated.
Room rather dark in the night would be better if it is brighter.

Hotel with 4 connected buildings. Room was large with ensuite onsen. Hotel has nice onsen on 3 indoor + outdoor locations. Breakfast was nice with good quality food and service. A bit pricey but overall a nice hotel

The dinner was amazing. I have stayed at a lot of Ryokan and this was one of the best dinners I've had. The baths were wonderful. There are 4 in total and you must try them all. My favorite was the 5th floor outdoor bath.
The breakfast was a bit simple. But then dinner was so big I didn't really mind. The morning shuttle-bus system was not explained on check in, so I had a bit of a panic in the morning as I thought I'd missed it. There's one every 20 minutes so it wasn't actually a problem but I wish I'd known before.
