Loved this traditional Ryokan with indoor and outdoor onsen - teenagers loved it. 7min walk from Yudanaka Station and township. Hotel provided free shuttle to/from station and Snow Monkey Park. Decor a little tired & needs updating but super clean. Staff were amazing - friendly and helpful.

Our stay at Hotel Housei was beyond excellent! Everyone was super friendly, they picked us up/dropped us off at the train station, and they truly maddened us feel like we were a part of their family. The breakfast and dinner were excellent, and other guests were friendly and courteous as well.
Chinatsu stood out in particular as a wonderful person working at the hotel! Upon our arrival, she showed us to our room and was super kind and caring. She made our great stay even better!
The location is great - the hotel also provided a shuttle bus to and from the snow monkey park. There are also some local restaurants that stay open late, and the town was a pleasure to walk around.
The Onsen was great as well. Good and hot water! I went 6 times over 3 days.
I will be returning to Hotel Housei for sure!

So quiet and in a great location.

Hotel japonês tradicional. Onsen muito bom.
Instalações antigas, precisa algumas reformas.

The basic breakfast spread perhaps.
The hotel sent a message here with an external link to verify my credit card which raised a flag. It's not legit according to booking.com.
When we reached, hotel asked for my car keys, requesting to keep it for the night, said they'll park my car somewhere else. I insisted the keys stay with me and reparked the car myself, at the backdoor area despite availability at the front entrance.
2 wash basins in my room but both mixer taps have no hot water. The cold water caused the skin on my fingers to crack, spoiling the rest of my trip.
Our en-suite onsen was insanely hot, we came from 3 prior ryokans/hotels with onsen, so this was a shock. We ran cold water and scooped out as much water as possible from the onsen to make it usable. The running cold water churned up lots of dark green brown scum from the onsen, so disgusting I decided to skip it. The extra we paid for en-suite onsen went to a waste.
There were large clumps of cobwebs around the room corners and dirt/stains in the tatami flooring. The only hotel with dirt and stained tatami we've encountered.
The lights of corridors were switched off after 9, 10pm, really dark, like a haunted house. Not kidding. Plus it's so quiet. Made our long walk to the common bath a little scary.
Lastly, in the morning my family stepped out for breakfast while I was still changing alone in the room. To my horror, a male staff opened our room door, entered to grab beddings from a closet. WTH?!

The helpful staff are one of the many highlights of this hotel. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and showed all the amenities.
The staff ensured that they had the right slippers and Yakutas for our kids.
There is a good selection of food at breakfast. Staff note if you may miss breakfast and will call the room in the last half an hour so you won’t miss out.
The free shuttle to and from the station and monkey park made our stay more enjoyable.
The property is very dated but it is kept clean and adds to some of the charm.

The staff were so friendly and welcoming, free shuttle bus to the Snow Monkey Park was great and the onsen was fabulous - I loved being able to soak in the lovely warm water in the onsen early in the morning while it was less than zero degrees outside
Nothing really to mention

Staff here were amazing! So helpful, so kind, and very welcoming despite our limited Japanese. The staff really make the stay! It's very close and convenient to get to the Snow Monkey Park and we were even chauffeured to the park and to the train station when we asked!
Only downside is that you're a ways outside of Nagano city, so you must travel to see the sites there. Hotel Housei is close to the train though so the travel isn't inconvenient.

Totaly awesome staff - 2 guys who speak little bit english, but they are amazing and kind (of course all staff was great)! Everything was fine, dinner and breakfast were rich and everybody could choose his style. Room was cosy and onsens were relaxing. We really enjoyed our time here!!!!! We advise to everybody who wants to feel real Japan!🥰

The free shuttle service was out of expectation!! Excellent!! The dinner was a feast and was very delicious. By the time I checked in, my futon was set so I don't need to do it myself.
There is no hairdryer in my room so I need to go to the public onsen to get my hair dried.

Amazing service 👏, lovely people. Picked us up from the train station and drove us up the mountain to see the snow monkeys 🐒. Traditional older hotel with a private onsen in our room, which was a delightful surprise. Food was good too. 👍

We got a large private onsen in our room. Overall clean and cosy space. We got a morning call to wake us up for the buffet breakfast.
Need to tune the temperature of the private onsen ourselves and it's hard to make the hot and cold water evenly distributed within the onsen. Can't extend the stay.

Onsen was perfect experience
breakfast offer was quite poor

Amazing private onsen right in the room. Very large room and pickup/drop off from train or bus station. Very nice staff.
nothing

staff were friendly and very helpful, even shuttling us to the snow monkey park and picking us up after! they also offered to drop us at the bus station if we required it. the room was clean and we were pleasantly surprised to find a private onsen attached to the room. the breakfast buffet was incredible and well stocked.
nothing it was fantastic

Very nice room and facilities. But beware that they allow pets. Our next door neighbor had two dogs with them that were very loud, and the staff refused to do anything about it. Very annoying. Otherwise good.

Big room, good onsen.
A bit dated, but still clean. No hair dryer
4.1
this is a great experience the staff go beyond what is required in every way, and drive us to the Monkeys and even let us Ride Along when they dropped off the skiers just so we could see a bit more of the scenery.
we had the gym dinner set which was really great to, and breakfast was lovely with lots of different choices both to Western an Asian

I took a tray with breakfast food to our room. It seemed to be straight out of 'Spirited Away', so full as it was with delicious, simple dishes and excellent coffee. The staff at the restaurant is also very kind. And the shuttle service took this from a 0-rating to an average one.
An old villager that we met at the station walked us to the hotel. I ordered a cup of tea at the reception, but the receptionist refused to get her tea. Worse, he appeared to say something rude to the old lady. In Japan such behavior is unacceptable. As a foreign guest I consider it awful in terms of hospitality, it was embarrassing and a pity but I don't know why the tea was denied.

Loved the ryokan experience for a very affordable price! Easy to locate the hotel from the JR Station (easy walking distance). Close to restaurants, shops and a nice hike. The meal plan is worth it as the dinners were quite elaborate and tasty and the breakfast is buffet. The onsens were lovely (especially the outdoor ones) and tattoos were allowed :). Free shuttle to the monkey park and back to JR Station. Staff were very nice! Also free green tea in room and pajamas made the experience much more comfortable.
Ryokan was a little bit tired looking and could have some TLC. There was ripped paper on the window in our room, the faucet in the bathroom leaked, and the toilet room didn't smell very good. Breakfast buffet didn't have the best food.
4.1
Loved the staff and their willingness to help out with any issues we had. The free bus to the monkey park and the train station afterwards was a treat.
The breakfast was very well prepared and organised. The breakfast attendants were courteous and efficient.
The onsen was a blessing. Beautiful water and facilities.
The beds were great, duvet were warm and cozy.
The room itself is huge by Japanese standards.
The rooms itself are a little dated but don't let that draw you away from everything else this little gem has to offer.
Would have loved to try their dinner but didn't have the option to book that through booking.com

The staff was super sweet and kind! They were very caring and attentive to our needs. The room is quite big, and the onsen was great! (There is one outside also)
There is a free shuttle bus to the snow monkey park.
The breakfast buffet was also amazing! Would definitely recommend to stay there! Thank you so much for the stay !
Everything was great!

The staff were a hospitable, clearly the best part.
Nothing worth mentioning
4.1
Staff were friendly even though they are not exactly fluent in English.
Service was awesome, they drove us to & fro the snow monkey park and even drove us to the train station when we checked out.
Also, having an onsen in our room was definitely a plus.
It's not really a new building but we knew it beforehand so nothing really, pretty clean too.
