Two nights of uncomfortable, outdoor drenching showers that were not meant for guests.

Only location is good, close to the beach (but not beach front), and to the bus stand.

I booked shared bath room and they gave us kindly attached bath room, but the water of toilet is not enough so we must go to next room's toilet. Bed size is not enough for 2 person, and the mattress is old? The mattress was not comfortable as the middle area of the mattress was deteriorating and the body sank down a lot. On the second day, they cooked in the kitchen downstairs and the smoke came into our room so much that we couldn't bear to stay there, they changed us to another room, but that room had a broken toilet and no water from the shower. So we had an outdoor water-only shower, which they called a 'Shared Shower', but it was clearly not meant to be a guest shower, just a shower space covered by a concrete wall, where I was taking a water shower, and the bugs were running down the wall and It was disgusting. It is not something guests should be using. This guest house appears to need repairs before allowing guests to stay in any of the rooms, as the water system is either broken or not functioning. For this facility, we thought the accommodation was good for around USD 3 (in fact, it was double that amount). In fact, they did not present any pictures of the inside of the room, but I could see why. It is because it is not clean.

Beautiful Colonial cottage

White House is an historic colonial cottage surrounded by jungle and close proximity to both the town and beach, plus the owner was friendly and kind.

Very good

The owner and his sister are true gem, they understand what a traveller needs, they are super helpful, the cooking of the sister is great.

After travelling in sri Lanka for some time, i was quite surprised with the condition of my room. I understand rooms along the coast are more expensive but the flush wasnt working so had to use a bucket, everything was very old. I was glad i was staying just for one night. There might be better rooms though

Very good

Basic accommodation very near the beach with the nicest family you will meet in Sri Lanka. This is backpacking as it used to be. The garden is full of wildlife .. I lost count of the species of birds ... Mongoose and Monkeys visit often The family will go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible This is not 5 star .. it is basic ... but the family are 5 star ... including their pet cow

Exceptional

Very friendly & kind family, we could borrow snorkeling stuff. They prepared very tasty breakfast. Quiet place. Quick walk to the main beach. Family kindly adopted several doggies from the street. Very good price for basic accomodation.

The shower is very basic, just be prepared for some ants walking around the walls there (no problem for us).

The location was really nice, 5 min walk to beautiful beach and near main road and road with nice shops and cafés. The people of the guesthouse were very nice and helpfull. They sell nice fruit and make very tasty breakfast and dinner (but not fresh/hot). There is a very nice garden with plants, trees, a cow and sometimes monkeys.

When we got there, our room was still booked by other people. We could go to a neighbour's hotelroom, which was nice and clean, but not what we had expected. We would like it if we knew this in advance. The next night we could stay in our booked room, but there was a DEAD RAT in the bathroom. The owners were not impressed, but removed it. They said there was a rat because there is no ceiling in the bathroom, just a roof. Furthermore, the room was not clean, especially the bathroom. The bed was very small for two persons (when you are not a couple) and pretty uncomfortable. The place is cheap but dirty. I guess it suits some people very well, others less.

2 minutes to the ocean and delicious Sri Lankan food

It`s nice place with hospitable hosts. It takes really 2 minutes to the ocean. There are all necessary facilities: stove, kettle, refrigerator, WiFi (paid separately). The room was with shower and toilet. You can order excellent Sri Lankan breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The portions are much larger than in the nearest restaurants. You can also take culinary master classes from the hostess, and buy fruits cheaper than in a fruit shops nearby. Peacocks and monkeys walk right in the yard. It was a pleasure to live here and I will definitely come back. p.s. The price is fully consistent with the conditions. You are not choosing a five star hotel. See photos and decide for yourself.

When we arrived we were told that a double booking was made. We got a room at a womans place, who had a house on the same yard. A very poor room, poor hygiene and uncomfortable bed. not worth a visit despite the cheap price

Unique glimpse at local family's home, true budget travel experience, well situated to beach

This is certainly a unique property, a rare glimpse at local life. At times, I wondered if White House was an art project, with cow and dogs tied up, rooster, chickens, cats, and more, roaming littered lawns, grandmother with catapult to warn monkeys. The family is sweet, friendly and helpful. The location is quiet, other than sounds of nature, and the sunrise rooster, but well situated with beach a hundred metres away. Nice family, interesting perspective on life, can't beat the price.

As delicate as I can put this, the lowest level of cleanliness anywhere I have stayed. Could raise the price a little to ensure under the bed and closet, and bathroom, cleaned before check in. There were rat droppings everywhere, falling from the roof, but the bathroom and front door filled up with them daily, and you can hear them at night. They are happy and well fed. This place is not for the delicate or squeamish, but worth the experience if you can handle a more humble existence.
