the overall look of the buildings could use a facelift

The jungle location was great for just chilling. Plus there is Montezuma, Tambor and Curu Nature Park all nearby, plus the local beach only 5 minutes by car đź‘Ť

the staff was so kind and welcoming. we ran into a couple hiccups with not getting an ATV rental the first day and the staff really did all they could to help us out.
it was a little remote and the room was pretty small but we weren’t really there too much so it was ok.

Looking good but sadly thats about it...
We had a huge crab in our room and a lot of bugs...
About half an hour after we got the room and we saw the bugs and the crab we were asking to cancel the booking and get the money back(since we didnt use anything of the facilities and didnt mess the room) and the stuff was very rude and said its not an option and we just need to deal with it. Overall it was a very bad experience for us.

Nothing
ALL is bad. Please don't go there.
The photos has nothing to do with the actual look and feel of the place.
I arrived and I booked the suite with 2 king size beds, sea view and mini bar... and they put me next to the reception area where there is a room, I was shocked because they were quick by asking me to pay.. I claimed my booking and they realized there was a mistake, However the suite was occupied..hahaha OMG, so they offered me a room by the SAME PRICE 350$ without a bed. Only 1 shared bed. ...!! Gosh..
Looks like they offer the same suite to EVERYBODY via Booking! I met a couple and they shared us the same exact experience during breakfast time which has no options more than typical breakfast and they open it until 8am!!!! Is insane! They don't have more than 10 dishes in the menu. They don't have Splenda. I don't eat eggs and they had no more options for me to eat. Very disappointing. Again. Don't waste your money.

PARADISE!
We found this location last minute and we absolutely loved it. It's a little paradise.
Our room was nicely decorated, cozy, with view onto the swimming pool and park where we could see a variety of local birds and wildlife. The staff are all highly motivated, helpful and friendly. The weather is just perfect, and the pool was the perfect place to freshen up and enjoy our drinks. Since the hotel has its own tour company, they provide great prices on tours.
We highly recommend it!

Great vacation destination
The facility was very clean and welcoming. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Lots of choices for food and drinks. The beach is just a short walk and very pristine. Our room had a spectacular ocean view.
Overall we had an outstanding experience and can't wait to return.

A Fantastic experience!
Very pleased with this boutique hotel. The service was friendly, prompt and complete.
Breakfast plentiful and delicious. The property is kept very clean and well maintained. They offer many good options for tours and activities. Food at the onsite restaurant was amazing.
We will be back.

EVERYTHING ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!
Gorgeous, well kept boutique hotel. The room was nicely decorated, spacious and super clean. Breakfast was included, it was plentiful and delicious. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The same hotel offers tours through their own tour company Pura Vida Expeditions CR, we took the Tortuga island tour and the bioluminescence tour. Plenty of things to do and explore in the area. We highly recommend it!

Liked there was a pool, wifi and ac in the unit and breakfast was included. The breakfast and coffee were the best part of our stay. The exterior of the place was beautiful.
Bed was hard as a rock, only 2 thin pillows provided. Toilet and shower were a separate room but the wall for them did not go to the ceiling so no real privacy. Staff did not speak English, however the owner did. The road to get to the house is long and arduous due to the potholes. Food and drinks are ridiculously priced yet both nothing special. Burger was over cooked and not tasty. If the food stayed the same price but was amazing then I wouldn't care about the cost. However it was disappointing. Definitely not worth staying a long time.

The property was very comfortable and well-maintained.
The property is about 3 km away from the highway and some guest will benefit from getting a ride from the hotel to the highway, complements of the hotel.

The rooms were ample and comfortable, breakfast was typically Costa Rican delicious food. The staff was really helpful and nice, helping us with all our queries, tours, requests and problems. The rooms were quiet although they were on the ground floor near the pool. We loved the live music events too.
The wifi connection did not reach the rooms, it was only available near the pool and rather a poor signal. Cleanliness could be improved especially considering the amount of insects that get into the room. Our room had only lukewarm water. The three rooms that we rented had different facilities (2 out of 3 had TV and safe, 1 had fridge).

The room I got did not look anything like the website images on booking.com

I like absolutely everything about this hotel. The best I've been in Costarica. Small and cosy, the staff is super friendly and attended us with all our needs. The rooms and premises are super clean, the grass and landscape kept in perfect conditions. We ate at the restaurant on-site a few times, I had some fresh mahi mahi and my husband had a beef churrasco. All the food we tried was absolutely delicious and Javier makes the best margaritas and pinas coladas I've ever tried.
I highly recommend it!

The staff was friendly, the dining area surrounding a small swimming pool and in the middle of trees is good. There is a remote beach that is ~10-15mns walk away on a dirt road that I recommend at sunrise (~6am). The breakfast was good.
The room was big but disappointing: No desk, spots on the floor, a view on trees that could be nice if it was not for piles of dead leaves, branches and dirt. Apart from the small beach, this is a bit far from everything and you have to go through dirt roads every time. The restaurant is overpriced (e.g., chips and guacamole for US$14)

Great location and staff. Really enjoyed the tour to Tortuga Island.
Restaurant prices are too high for the area.

Rooms were spacious.
Location is not exactly near the beach, it's a 15-20 minute walk to an extremely rocky part of the beach. We ended up driving to other beaches within the area. The hotel is located on a cul-de-sac down a long dirt road. Parking was a pain as there's only one way in or out. Restaurant prices were very expensive compared to other places I'd stopped at, we ended up eating at Al Chile in Tambor. Hotel lacked services, we had to ask for supplies. There was also no cleaning equipment (mop/broom) in the rooms.

Sonia and her lovely team were very accommodating. The restaurant served amazing, high quality dishes. It was delicious and I’d recommend staying here if you’re in this area!
You can access the beach but it’s a ways away.

it’s quite an impressing looking building
we eventually found the property ! we had a very long day getting up at 3am and flying from mexico - 2 flights and the roads from San Jose are not good we got the 3pm ferry by the skin of our teeth! I doubt we would have found in the dark ! we had checked in ! slightly chaotic - we had a quick bite to eat or tried - and retired to bed telling Sonja as we were so tired ! we knew they had a couple of tables for dinner but at about 9pm they obviously cracked up the karaoke machine ! well it was so loud - I was very upset as she could have at least mentioned to us ! obviously they were making lots of $$$ as our little bit of food and 2 beers and 2 waters was $75 - his was unedible he took it away and fed a starving dog the following day - we were going to stay another night but changed our minds ! it’s a bit on a limb there - would be lovely as a peaceful retreat until they crack the music up ! very disappointed that Sonja didn’t even show her face yesterday when we left ! we hung around as talking to some Germans and we had a car we drove to the waterfall - as we couldn’t find the beach supposedly 7mins walk away !

The place is fully renovated with an exotic style, clean and excellent customer service. We tried the food at the restaurant asnd was delicious. The staff very attentive and helpful to give us directions and organize all our trips in the area.
I totally recommend this place. We had an amazing time! Thank you Villa Bali staff for the great experience!

See google reviews for Villa Castillo -- it is the same location. The owners seem to have dealt with some valid bad reviews by changing the name and investing a lot in advertising. The television and WiFi worked fine for me, but the property still has most of the issues mentioned in reviews under the old name. The place had great potential, but they need to address the issues instead of rebranding.
They were responsive when I could not find the place -- signs are all on the left side of the road and dominated by a photo. They were responsive when I called for directions and when I asked for things, but I had to ask a lot.
Nearly every window in my room was missing panes and I had to ask them to fix the toilet right after I checked in. Google maps does not have the correct location. Many items advertised are not as stated. They also ask for additional 13% tax if you are using your credit card. Also, you have to ask the very nice but inexperienced staff to wear masks and there is no had washing station at the restaurant. I was told breakfast was at 7 am, so I was there at 6:50, not wanting to be late, as I was the only guest there, I ended up waiting until 7;10 am and asking when I could have my breakfast.

Very beautiful hotel with beautiful pool and view.
De shower was really gross and when paying 10 dollars for breakfast (excluding drinks) you would expect a lot more than what we got.

Frank and Anna who ran the restaurant for dinner were great and the food was excellent.
Almost everything about this place was misleading or wrong in the booking.com description. The swimmable beach is not close. It is a 50-60 minute walk down a steep road and then a path. No one on site spoke English. They tried to put us in the wrong type of room when we got there and said everything was booked and we could move the next day. When we refused to pay, miraculously another room was open. there were only 6 other people there at the time. The room was not clean (see photos). We had breakfast included, but it took a call to the manager in Toronto to confirm it. We were supposed to have a kitchen, but all we had access to was an outdoor kitchen, which would have been ok if it had been clean with appliances working safely. Not sure what shuttle they referred to, but to go anywhere, including the “nearby” grocery cost $40. There was no lunch available and dinner was not available on 3 of the nights.

The style of the hotel was very cool.
There was a ton of bugs and lizards that flooded into the room. Not very clean.
