Beautiful gardens and birds
Long walk to get to the river
4.5 / 5.0
Beautiful quiet property in isolated but lovely location between two volcanoes. Tons of birds and great gardens. Cabins were cute and clean, though rustic.
Must have a car to visit attractions as location is quite remote. Staff didn't speak much English but we got by well with Google Translate.

Staff is great, food is great, rooms are nice. Property is very nice, lots of birds. They have hike you can use. I would still recommend it
No A/C, gaps between floor boards. Gaps are big that all kind of insect can crawl in. We had ants in the room. Other then that everything else was good.

Surrounded by nature and a beautiful garden, the bungalow was very nice with a great view on the volcano
Quiet place and peaceful
Excellent breakfast
Nice staff
The road to go there is bit bumpy

Access to a waterfall with plunge pools in a 1h walk directly from the lodge. Very nice, silent and not crowded like the natural park. A bar is just under construction. Dinner is available - just one choice per day. Breakfast typical and ok.
The lodge pool is just tiny.
The personal only speaks Spanish.

Amazing, quiet, away from the tourist masses. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a more authentic experience. The breakfast and dinner on site were pretty good and very practical. The trail next to the house is much nicer then the ‘main attraction’ Rio Celeste, if I had to choose between those two, I would choose the Cataratas Bijagua any day; a bit more rugged and into nature.
Not a negative persee, the internet wasn’t the most stable, to me wasn’t a problem but can imagine for other people it is.

Wonderful stay for our family. We had two different cabins that everyone enjoyed and were easy to walk to from one to the other. The setting was just beautiful and we loved hearing the river and seeing the beautiful variety of flowers and plantings. Breakfast was delish and they even fulfilled our request for a small special something for our gluten-free family member. Everyone was kind and helpful.
Just a small pot of coffee for the early risers would be great - but certainly not a deal breaker.

Grounds and trails. Nice staff.
Better lighting in room# especially bathroom. Very rough 1.5 km access road.

Wonderful cabin in the forest. Great sized room, nice bathroom, breakfast was excellent with fresh fruit, juice, delicious coffee and the usual Gallo Pinto.
Staff were really helpful and the 5 kilometre walk you can do from the property to a waterfall is one of the most beautiful walks I've ever done.
The trees had Toucans, Hummingbirds and Woodpeckers in them.
Nothing it was absolutely a grem

Nice cabin in the middle of nature with great balcony. We walked the nice jungle trail to the waterfall. Breakfast was nice as well. We forgot a bag in the room and they kept it for us.
Everything was good.

Very friendly staff. Dinner and breakfast were also good. Beautiful birds on site.
Bed leaves something to be desired. Lack of hot water.

The setting is of course very special. The gardens are well cared for and look spectacular, and they seem to attract a variety of bird life. The staff are so lovely and happy to answer any questions or help you with anything. But you really are living close to nature, as we found out when we found a scorpion in our bathroom, which a staff member helped us with. The trail that leads to the waterfalls is great as well and is a nice hike which feels like a special experience because not a lot of people use it presumably - we didn't see anyone when we went. To top it off the food was really nice!

The place it self has minimum facilities

The staff was really kind and the structure presents a
wonderful gardener. You can even have a walk through
their private forest to a waterfall.
The pool for the guest and the lodge were really amazing.

The (free) breakfast was great, and the grounds and surrounding area are beautiful. The room was very clean.
It was a little pricey for the amenities, we paid $86 after taxes. The room was very basic, literally just beds and a small refrigerator. There was no AC (advertised as no AC so wasn’t a surprise) but it got really hot and uncomfortable during the day when we tried to take a nap after a long hike. Nighttime was fine, but I can’t imagine during the dry season.

Extremely nice location of the lodging, it is literally in the middle of the rainforest. No need to pay for night frog tour as the frogs live on site and you can watch them in the property park. I would definitely recommend to anyone passing through the area to spend a night here.

Beautiful setting near jungle. The breakfast was pleasant and staff very nice.
Chair pads would be nice.

Decent breakfast. Room was simple but nice. Grounds were stunning
Uncomfortable beds and boards on upper construction of room weren’t flush, hence moy bug entry

The property is gorgeous, on the side of a mountain with amazing views, luscious plants everywhere, and a creek that runs near most of the cabins. Each day we would wake up to sound of birds singing, and watch several humminbirds fees on nearby bushes from our balcony. We also saw the famous red-eyes tree frog ome evening right by the on-site cafe.
There is also a hike from the property to a beautiful waterfall where you can go swimming. When we went, we had the whole trail tonourselves. The grounds are quite big, and our kids had a ton of fun roaming around.
The breakfasts- whicj are included, are bearty, with thingz like farm fresh eggs, pancakeacoffee and juice. We had dinner at the property a few nights, which was simple but good and very affordable.
A few things to note is that the cabins are rustic. Expect to finds lizards in the shower and no amenities, like shampoo. If you have a hrad time climbing stairs, make sure to request one of tue downstairs cabins, although the views can't be beat from upstairs! This was fine for us, but may be helpful intel for others.
The owners mostly speak Spanish, so if you don't, have Google translate handy :)
The hotel doesn't really offer travel planning help, although there are a few faded posters by the registration table, so be sure you already know what you want to do in the area. A car is a must, as this place is a few kilometers from the main road in Upala and besides the hike on the property, places are too far to walk. Its also about a 20 minite ride from Rio Celeste and Volcan Tenorio national park. Not super far, but we saw many properties just beyond the park entrance that would have been much closer.

The surroundings of the lodge were incredibly beautiful. Very handy to have the marked trail for the waterfall from the reception. Delicious breakfast. Excellent wi-fi coverage even in the rooms.
The restaurant was only open for breakfast during my stay but the staff helped to arrange evening meals to be delivered. None of the staff I spoke with during my stay spoke any English but were very patient with my limited Spanish and the good wi-fi meant access to translation tools when things got complicated.

The grounds are beautiful, surrounded by all sorts of flora and fauna. Loved the private hike to the waterfall, definitely off the beaten path. The cabins are clean and cozy. Breakfast was amazing!
Wifi and even our personal hotspot didn't seem to work very well. Would have loved to eaten dinner at the restaurant but as not able to make a reservation in time.

The gardens we're gorgeous.
The food was superb.
Overall a fantastic experience.
Will definitely come back to do the hike to the waterfall.
The fact I had just had surgery for a broken wrist so I wasn't up to hiking to the waterfall.

This place is a dream, the gardens are wonderful. From the place you can access a trail to a magic waterfall. It feels like sleeping in paradise.
I would have wished for a kitchen we could use. The shower is a bit tricky to set to the right temperature

Really quiet location surrounded by nature. The cabins were clean, the gardens were well kept and full of birds and there were a couple of trails through the jungle, one leading to a lovely waterfall. Tours of the area are available to book at reception, including a guided night walk on the grounds. We saw 2 species of snake and 7 species of frog so it was a very interesting and worthwhile experience. Breakfast was traditional pinto with eggs, a plate of fresh fruit, coffee and fresh juice and it was great.
Nothing to fault at the price we paid. A great option.

Had a good breakfast, and the wifi was great even though the description said no wifi in the rooms. The hike on their property was stunning and made the stay worthwhile (although we wouldn't repeat). I
the beds were like boards, the hot water wasn't working despite multiple complaints to the staff who nodded like they understood our poor Spanish (we do know enough to use Spanish words for Shower (ducha) and no hot water (no aqua calor). The road was a bit bumpy for a sedan but we knew that going in so I wouldn't hold that against the property We are backpackers and have stayed in much worse places and been happy but a decently comfortable bed and a hot shower (the water heater was turned off probably due to no propane) is mandatory for that price.

The lodges were so lovely and private! They each have their own little porch with hammock and chairs which was lovely. The bed was really comfortable and there was hot water on demand.
The location is absolutely incredible - right at the end of the road with just forest all around you. There is a 2.6km hike to a private waterfall and pool which we did and swam in which was absolutely incredible. We also tried out the swimming pool which is small but clean.
They have their own hydroelectricity from the river there which is really impressive.
We managed to get by in english but if you speak better spanish it would have been even easier. Really friendly people. Not too far from national park which we thoroughly enjoyed. Our favourite place in costa rica. The place is absolutely teeming with wildlife and we even saw a toucan at breakfast!!
Was a little dusty in some areas and the mosquito net was old and didnt close - although we didnt have a problem with mosquitos.
2.5 / 5.0
rooms and gardens very nice
the front desk was not very helpful, had no idea of the many activities we could do and was alone with no help all the two days. breakfast was at 7 to 8:30 am so early!
