There are two lovely fish and chip shops, a fabulous ice cream parlour and a couple of fish restaurants along the harbour. Amble is reputedly the friendliest port and the cafés and bars are all run by local people.
The Heritage coastline, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretches along the beautiful coastline to Berwick-upon-Tweed with miles of golden beaches and castles. Be sure to visit Holy Island, home to the Lindisfarne Gospels, but make sure you check the tide tables to access the causeway. For Harry Potter fans, a visit to Alnwick Castle, 10 miles, is a must. It is home to the Duke of Northumberland and a popular tourist destination in the cobbled historic town of Alnwick. Alnmouth station is only a few miles away, where you can catch the East Coast train up to Edinburgh or down to Newcastle or York for day trips to remember.
Amble is centrally located for exploring in all directions, so a trip over to Hadrian’s Wall, Kielder National Park or up the Heritage coast are all easily accessible from here. Amble has plenty of shops, a bank, cafés, pubs and amenities so you can leave your car behind and have a nice meal and drink out and walk back to Wheelhouse 21. Beach 100 yards. Its difficult to find the words for how happy we were with the cottage and our break.
Its difficult to find the words for how happy we were with the cottage and our break. The cottage was lovely, with all of the amenities we could have wished for, very cosy and in a perfect location. It was very clean and the instructions were all clear and helpful. The welcome basket was a lovely surprise. The area itself is wonderful with lots of places to visit and so many incredible beaches. We will be back.

Wheelhouse 21 is furnished and equipped to an exceptionally high standard. The owner has also made great efforts to make sure the house is a safe environment in COVID times. Over the past 12 years we have rented several properties in Amble all of which were to a high standard but Wheelhouse 21 surpasses all of them. Many many thanks to the owner for her personal attention.

This is a lovely property located opposite the little shore and pier in Amble.
This is a lovely property located opposite the little shore and pier in Amble. The back yard was a lovely place to sit in the evening sun and relax after busy days out. There is loads to see and do in the immediate area and in Northumberland in general, and loads of excellent eateries, all within easy walking distance. The owner is very friendly and helpful, as were the neighbours, and we got to know some of the local shop keepers too....we have already rebooked for 2021.

An excellent holiday house located in a superb location with a great little beach within walking distance. Amble is an interesting town with the biggest fishing fleet in Northumberland. The house had all the amenities required and so clean. All the family thoroughly enjoyed the house and the location.

We had a fabulous week at Wheelhouse 21. The house was extremely well-equipped and spotlessly clean.
It's in a great location with all local restaurants and shops within a short walk and you couldn't get much closer to the beach!
Would definitely recommend and wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Wheelhouse 21 is one of the nicest holiday cottages we have stayed in ever! It is fresh and cleanly presented and what a treat not to have to clean anything before we settled in.
As people who don't own a dog, it was also really nice to stay in a "no dogs" cottage. With the best will in the world, you can't stop dogs leaving a bit of a whiff and dog hair, so that sat very well with us.
The location is fabulous. Looking out to the pond form the kitchen window, particularly during some storms, was great. The binoculars are a stroke of genius!
The bed was really comfortable and the sofas and dining all provided that home from home feel. We loved the novelty factor (for us!) of the log burner particularly when the weather and sea were pounding. So cosy.
We will definitely be coming back and would recommend this cottage wholeheartedly.
Amble itself is a great town with a fab choice of places to eat, drink and just mosey around.
