In the evening, the home's large wrap-around deck and two screened porches provide views of beautiful sunsets and multiple places to enjoy dinner and cocktails with friends and family.
Many first time visitors compare Broadkill Beach’s remote feel to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, but much smaller and with easier access to Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Philadelphia. When you vacation at “A Shore Thing” you can relish in sea-clusion, but still enjoy fine dining and nightlife only a short drive away in neighboring beach towns like Lewes and Rehoboth. If you like microbreweries there are many local favorites to be found or you can even take a ferry ride from Lewes to Cape May for the day. Walk the trails of Cape Henlopen from the woods to the beach to view Cape Henlopen Light. Give the kids a break from the beach and spend a fun day at a water park or schedule a group kayak tour.
Golfers will enjoy an outing at the championship Rookery Course located only minutes away from Broadkill Beach. It features four sets of tees for golfers of all ages and a grass driving range. While golfers golf, shoppers can shop tax free until they drop at the Tanger Outlets. And, don’t forget to take a short walk, bike ride or drive to the Broadkill General Store for handmade donuts, breakfast sandwiches, pizza, sandwiches, ice cream, souvenirs or other essentials.
The home is located on a dead end road which backs to the Prime Hook National Nature Refuge. It is only 7 houses (3 minute walk) to the beach on a sand packed road. The home offers an open concept with lots of living space for everyone to spread out or come together. Here you will find a large den, family and dining room with breakfast bar and tables, along with a fully-equipped kitchen. The living room is equipped with a large plasma TV, and an additional TV in the den will be ready to hook up your game console. A wireless network is available throughout the house along with premium cable channels. Board games, books, videos and some toys for kids. A large game room with ping-pong and foosball tables provide additional entertainment for kids of all ages anytime of the day or night.
This vacation home has four bedrooms (one king bed, two queen beds, and a twin over full bunk bed) to comfortably sleep 8, plus a queen, pull out sofa in the den. There are two full baths and an outdoor shower. The home has central air, as well as ceiling fans throughout the house.
Driveway parking with space for up to four vehicles and an enclosed garage to keep beach supplies at night. A fenced side yard is available to keep your pets contained and safe, when you are not taking long walks with them on the beach. Well-behaved dog(s) accompanied by a responsible owner are welcome upon approval with pet fee & signed addendum.
We invite you to go all in with a “A Shore Thing” for your next vacation.

This was our family’s second year in a row renting this property. Patti leaves us with such a warm welcome upon arrival. Very thorough, thoughtful, and responsive. We have everything we need when we’re there because of her setup and hospitality. Home is very comfortable and we enjoy all amenities provided. Will be back again next year! 🙂

See my prior reviews for more details. This was our 4th time staying at Patti and Rick’s beach house. Everything was great then, and everything was great again this year! Thanks, Patti and Rick!

The family loves this place, secluded, private. Beautiful home that Patti and Rick own. We love the game room. Secured deck for the dogs to join us. We found this place a few years ago and already have next year booked.

We were here a few years ago and had talked about it since. We decided to go back this year and it didn’t disappoint. The house is the perfect size and in a great location. We already booked again for next year.

This was our 3rd stay and every year we are greeted by the same clean, well-maintained home! The fenced in yard and deck is great for keeping our dog contained. The basement game room is great for entertainment on rainy days. The screen porch facing the marsh is our favorite spot. Very clean, well appointed-highly recommend!

My family enjoyed their stay at this home. The furnishings were comfortable, the home was clean, and the location was private but close to the beach.

The house itself is so pleasant and comfortable it’s even better than the photos. Spacious, with lots of rooms for groups and private nooks for reading, great views and tons of natural light. Game/exercise room, beach supplies and other little things provided by the host were a delightful surprise. Short walk to a beautiful quiet beach; short drive to charming town of Lewes. I’d give it six stars if I could.

This was our second stay and it was every bit as wonderful as our first. This is a very well-appointed beach property with anything and everything you would need for a great stay. The location is superb as it’s a very short walk to the beach but tucked back for quiet and less windy time outside. The hosts are very attentive and do a fabulous job of welcoming their guests. We highly recommend this property!!!!

We have rented this beautiful home three years and booked again for next year, well maintained. The owners are always there for any questions/responses. We have stayed 6 homes and this is our favorite.

The house was even nicer than we expected. Excellent space, and the hosts had thought of everything. It was large, well-organized, and comfortable. Exactly what a beach rental should be. We had a fun, beachy, and memorable week here.

The home was beautiful and well equipped for our fur babies! The owners were super responsive. And the home was appointed with details to make the stay enjoyable. We appreciated the quiet of Broadkill Beach and the fact that the beach wasn’t over crowded. ☺️ Would absolutely stay again!

This is our 2nd year at this house and another great stay!! The house is clean, well stocked and has lots of space for hanging out as a family, but also spreading out as needed! Patti is very easy to communicate with and very quick to reply. If you’ve never stayed in Broadkill before be aware that it can get quite buggy at times, which is why we really enjoy having access to 2 screen porches. The beach wagon made the short walk to the beach a breeze and not having to bring our own chairs, etc saves lots of car space. We brought our dog along and the fenced in yard was perfect for letting her explore while also keeping her contained. We will continue to stay at this property again and again!

10 of our family members, ranging in age from 3 to 82, stayed comfortably at Patti and Rick's home for one week. The hosts are very friendly and responsive. The house is beautiful, clean, and well-stocked for a large group. The ceiling fans and air conditioning keep the house cool in humid weather and the screened porches allow you to enjoy the outdoors away from the biting flies and mosquitoes coming from the marsh near the house. The bugs can be an issue at ground level, but bug spray usually does the trick. Broadkill Beach is a 5 minute walk straight down the road from the house and makes for a fun day on the sand. The Delaware Bay water is shallow and warm with gentle waves perfect for kids. The location us also a short drive from Cape Henlopen State Park and Rehoboth Beach, which make for excellent day trips.

Had a great stay at A Shore Thing! House was really nice and well stocked. Homeowner was wonderful! Very responsive and informative. We did have some bad weather midweek with rain and wind. We just relaxed then and enjoyed the lovely house. The beach is just short walk and peaceful. Great for our dogs. It could be buggy on our walks to the beach but once we got there it was fine. We loved the screened in porch overlooking the preserve. Spent a lot of time out there even in the rain! Highly recommend this rental!

This rental is fantastic!!!! It was very clean and the owners have paid so much attention to all of the special details that make a stay away from home super convenient and comfortable. The house also has a great layout for relaxing (TWO screened-in seating areas and ample room inside to relax too) and it is the perfect distance from the beach (we like to be close enough for a short walk but not on the beach due to the wind there is sometimes). We had a really great stay at this property and we highly recommend it!!!!

Second year my family stayed at the Broadkill Beach house and it was great once again. Patti and Rick do a wonderful job of providing a clean and comfortable house that is very well stocked, labeled and ready for your stay. Communication with the owners, although not needed for anything other than arriving and leaving, was fast and easy. I highly recommend this house and this area for a relaxing and low key beach vacation for families with dogs.
One note for those who aren't familiar with this type of beach area: due to the close proximity to the wetlands (Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge), there will be flies! Big ones, and they bite - not just at the house, but on the beach, too, and especially when the wind is blowing from the wetland towards the beach. This has nothing to do with how great this beach house is, but I do think it's important to understand before you rent any beach house in this area (to properly set expectations).

Perfect Stay
We have stayed in a variety of properties in Broadkill and this one checked off everything we were looking for. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we could need. There was a ton of beach gear. The marsh side (and even the beach one day) can get quite buggy, so the screened porches were some of our favorite spots to hang out! Patti was great to work with-quick to respond to our questions and very welcoming. We loved the house so much that mid-week we already booked again for next summer.

Spacious, light-filled nature getaway
We stayed here for a week during a heat wave, so appreciated the inside of this house even more than usual. So many different spaces to hang out and beautiful views of the nature preserve.

Great home away from home
Home was exactly as advertised regarding number of rooms, beds, etc. Hosts provided more than expected regarding beach conveniences. More chairs, umbrellas, beach toys and coolers. Bikes were fun. Everything one could need for a comfortable stay was available. Well appointed kitchen, lots of extra bed pillows, lots of room to spread out. Outside shower a huge plus coming from the beach. Beach and Broadkill Store short easy walks from the house. We had a great stay. I’d highly recommend A Shore Thing as a comfortable summer get away.

Great relaxing home with pet friendly layout
We have stayed at Broadkill for a couple of years and this has to be the most relaxing place and pet friendly place there is. The place was clean, well layed out for our dogs to enjoy and great for children and adults. We already booked it for next year.love this place. People in the area are so friendly, great community. Beach is so peaceful, don’t forget a tent for pitching on the beach, it got pretty hot but we managed to go there later in the evening when it cooled down. Flies were a little problem but it’s a natural habitat, bring bug spray. We had a great adult nights in the game room with ping pong and Foosball. You won’t be disappointed with this rental.

Great house in quiet neighborhood!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - the house is beautiful and we love staying in this quiet neighborhood, surrounded by nature! The owners were wonderful and very attentive, checking in on us multiple times via text! Please be aware that this neighborhood does not have street lights, so having a flashlight (especially if you have to walk a dog) is highly recommended! Also, the house is built up on a platform (common in this area), so the stairs might be a problem for someone with knee issues. I have two elderly dogs, which I had to carry down the stairs, but I knew this beforehand so it wasn't a problem for me! The property is gorgeous - we would love to stay here again!

Amazing Property with amazing views and private beach
The home in Broadkill is absolutely a home away from home. The community is so nice and the local neighbors always spoke and waved to us as we walked to the beach. We love how quiet the beach was— with two young kids, it was perfect because we had plenty of space to stretch out and play. The home is about 20 minutes to the Rehoboth boardwalk, shops and restaurants, which was really nice as there was never any traffic. Patti and Rick were so responsive and even left us a really nice welcome gift. The home is equip with everything you could possibly need— so cooking breakfast and dinners was a breeze! We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again in future summers.

Wonderful get away
We enjoyed our stay. Because it was April, it was too cold to swim, but we had a nice time walking along the beach. The house was comfortable, clean and entertaining, and the walk to the beach was very short. We enjoyed the views over the marsh and looking at some of the wild birds. We spent a night with a darts/ping-pong family tournament and used the bikes for a short ride too. The house had all we needed to spend a few relaxing days. We opted to bring our own sheets/towels but there were blankets and pillows provided by the host. We hope to return when the weather is warmer :)

Spring Break Getaway
Beautifully decorated, well kept, comfortable house with lots of spaces for the family to spread out, even the dogs who liked the fenced in yard and the screened porch to lay in and smell the air. Very thoughtful amenities from the beach gear to the the little things you might forget to bring. We liked the privacy and view of the wild life refuge. Beach was a little more “natural” than the kids liked but was expected. Waves were calming nonetheless!

Great house for our family and dog - sunrises on the Bay, sunsets in the wildlife refuge. Broadkill Beach is a very quiet, which was just want we wanted. Owners very responsive and helpful. Great stay.

Relaxing beach vacation with the family
The house was great! The owner’s attention to detail was very much appreciated, as all of a typical vacationer’s needs were accounted for in one way or the other. Lots of supplies for hitting the beach and then relaxing at the house afterwards. My family’s stay was mid-August, and it was not an ideal time to be outside anywhere prone to flies and mosquitoes. But the beach was just a short walk away and seemed to be less prone to the swarms of bugs we encountered elsewhere. The screened-in porches at the house were excellent, especially the one on the back of the house facing the nature preserve! But even the outside decks, since up higher off the lawn, were mostly free of flies and mosquitoes, and were great for playing bean bags, grilling and viewing the ospreys and other birds in the nature preserve. Honestly, the bugs were the only downside. Everything else was great and we could easily work around the bugs. The house felt bigger in person than I expected from the photos. There was a lot of space for 6 adults and 3 kids. We ate breakfast on the porch and had plenty of space for making and eating dinners at home. And we had intense games of ping pong and foosball in the downstairs game room. The beach at Broadkill Beach is like your own private beach. It was out first time to the area, so perhaps it only felt that way due to COVID, but there were very few people on the beach even on the very nice weather days. And the vibe of the neighborhood and beach is low key, with a pack it in, pack it out mentality- ie be responsible, keep it civil and clean and everyone will get to enjoy the beach in their own way (4x4s, surf fishing, bonfires, dogs, etc). The beach store (short drive or bike ride away from the house) had good pizza, donuts and subs. Close enough to other options in Milton, Lewes or Rehoboth, but this house and the Broadkill area was perfect for a quiet beach getaway without worrying about leaving the beach or house often (and avoiding the inevitable traffic and crowds associated with other DE beach areas). Highly recommend!

Great vacation!
The house was wonderful and very well organized and managed. The owners are very nice, clean and organized people. The house is well presented, and the set up many nuances that mad this a great experience and a great vacation - from the instant we arrived to find a kind gift basket with wine and snacks to all the many small details ...
The house is also very isolated and in a beautiful setting. And yet close to the beach.
Oh yes, it’s also a dog’s paradise with the nice fenced in yard and other canine amenities.
We all had a great vacation!

Room for a family to be together AND apart!
I really want to say that this place wasn't perfect, that the owners weren't super friendly and accommodating, and that we hated it- but of course all that would be a lie!! I just don't want this wonderful rental to get all booked up before we get to rebook, because it was AWESOME. The owners thought of everything a renter might forget, were communicative and helpful, and very nice. The home itself is so spacious- we had seven and could all hang out together comfortably OR we could choose to spread out and I even LOST my husband in the house for 5 minutes! LOL. The views are gorgeous, the location perfect, and the Broadkill Beach area is a wonderful place of neighbourly people and beautiful scenery. We WILL be back- so don't even think of booking our week!! ;)
