Everything was exactly as shown in the add, so no bad surprises or broken expectations. On the contrary, once you see the view for real, it is absolutely breathtaking!
The house is entirely functional and properly equipped. It is worth mentioning the A/Cs in all the rooms, especially when it's +32º C outside!
The pool is of a very good size and is properly maintained, very clean water.
As for the beaches and towns around Petalidi, there are plenty to choose from: Kalamata, Koroni, Finikounta, Methoni... The Peloponisian Peninsula may not be the prettiest, but it is full of natural charm, the people are amazingly nice, and the food is simply great.
All in all, we had a fantastic stay and will certainly go back!

Fantastic seaview from the terrasse and pool
We had 10 great days at villa Urania, spending a lot of time around the pool because it was too hot to make trips in the afternoon. The views over the bay and the Mani peninsula on the other side were spectacular. The kitchen was well equipped and three evenings we used the small grill on the terrasse. Only complaint was the poor internet connection from the WiFi router.
The neighbouring towns of Petalidi and Koroni (a little further) had cozy atmosphere and were not too overcrowded with tourists.

Amazing view!
The view from the villa of the Gulf and the Taygetus mountains is spectacular. The villa itself was very spacious, comfortable and clean when we arrived. It is well equipped, although reasonably basic but has everything you need. The beds have toppers on and are comfortable. The pool was lovely, again clean and well maintained. The sheets and towels were all changed mid stay.
The road up to the villa is interesting! A little rough but you soon get used to it and definitely worth it when you reach the top! There are some lovely walks from the back of the villa.
Kalamaki itself has some good tavernas - the food is excellent and the local people are friendly and charming. Beautiful beaches and generally the area is stunning and well worth visiting and exploring. Sailing in the Gulf is also wonderful and a great way to access hidden coves.
An excellent week and would thoroughly recommend the villa!

Comfortable accommodation with magnificent views
A great place to stay with fantastic outside space - there are expansive ocean views across to the Mani, and along the peninsula up to Kalamata and down to Koroni. Two more delights in this accommodation which regular visitors to Greece will appreciate - mattress toppers on the beds, and powerful water pressure in the shower! Things to be aware of before booking - the pool is very deep (around 8ft for two-thirds of it) - which was great for our older children, but might be difficult with little ones. Also the access road is steep and cratered, don't get too underpowered a hire car! The property and pool is well maintained, and we were completely happy with all aspects of the accommodation.
The area is superb - despite staying in August, we heard very few English or northern European voices - the other tourists are 95% Greek. It was dead easy to get to - arriving via Kalamata we were in the pool within five hours of take off from Gatwick. There are lots of lovely beaches, more than we could get to see in a fortnight, some almost empty, and even on the busy ones you could get a decent patch of sand to yourself. It's gone down as one of our best ever holidays!

2 week stay in May/June 2008
Our family rented out the villa Urania over a 2 week period in May/June 2008 and had a wonderful stay. The villa is lovely - clean, bright and with all the basic essentials that a family needs. It is in a very peaceful spot on the top of a steep hill (bit of a bumpy drive up and down!). The views from the villa are spectacular, it is very beautiful, surrounded by olive trees and looking down over the sea and over the coast. We also had a daily flypast from some fighter jets - very exciting! The villa is cleaned, the gardens are looked after twice a week and the pool is also cleaned at that time.
We spent most of our time at the villa relaxing by the pool. We did visit Koroni - quite nice bars around the harbour, Methoni - really interesting castle and also a lovley town square with bars and restaurants (recommend a visit), Ancient Messinia - very interesting, but hot and open with no facilities on site, go in the early morning with water and suncream/hats! We also went to Voi de Killia - which is very beautiful.
You really need a car in order to get around and to get to Petalidi and Chrani the most local villages. The beach at Chrani is the best one around, with various beach bars that have beds/umberellas you can use.
Chrani is not really a vlilage, more of a holiday apartment village. But it does have some restaurants - the best one is found near the top of the road down to the restaurants and apartments. It was always busy and had wonderful food and atmosphere, not sure of the name - Ellias maybe, it had a pretty garden around the restaurant with tables etc. Chranis also had a very good mini market - Billys.
Petalidi is quiet and a bit scruffy - but has a lot of charm. There are bars and restaurants around the square, the one we liked best is the modern bakery at the top - great coffees and cakes/ice creams. There are quite a few mini markets and butchers etc in Petalidi, it is a very friendly place. We ate once at the Paradise restaurant closer to the sea - friendly and good meal. Go to Petalidi on market day. it is busy and bustling and has great fruit/vegetables along with lots of other typical market stalls!
The owner was very helpful and easy to contact via phone (we arranged a late check out whilst we were there).
I would have no hesitation in recommending this villa to a family who are looking for a quiet holiday and who are happy to get in the car to see a few sights, visit the local villages etc.
