This is an amazing house for a group of friends and their kids. We had the best time in the pool, playroom and outdoors
There was plenty of space for everyone to stay without feeling crowded. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of plates, cups and silverware for a large group
The whole house and pool area was very clean and had lots of towels for everyone
There is some nicer furniture/items that I put away when we arrived
The owners were wonderful and easy to communicate with
I highly recommend this house

We had an awesome stay at the Thaddeus Twitchell House! Check-in/check-out was easy! The house was spacious and most importantly clean! The pool and hot tub were also well maintained. Loved that we all had king sized beds and our own private bathrooms. Would definitely return!

We had a great time!!! House is gorgeous with everything you could possibly need. Very close to stores and restaurants. Couldn't ask for a nicer place to stay. Thank you John and Cynthia!!

We stayed in this big house for 3 nights with our 4 grown-up children's family from east and west coasts for our first family reunion trip in honor of my recently deceased mother who valued family tie. We had a total of 10 adults and 6 children and the reunion was just fantastic. At the dinner table of our last night staying there, we all took turn to say something about this stay. The comments are as follows:
1. The kitchen is really big, equipped with all the gadgets we need and 2 dishwashers, making preparation of meals extra convenient.
2. The swimming pool is a blast and we can stay there for most of our days, plus the hot tub is super relaxing and comfortable.
3. The bedrooms are so comfortable and we love having our own bathroom.
4. The dinner table is so big that we can all sit together to enjoy our meals
5. The place is really spacious so we can have our own space if needed or chat as a group when feel like to.
6. The house is so sound-proof that we can have quiet sleep without hearing babies crying.
7. The game room with its many games is fun for both young and old.
8. My 7-years old grandson said, 'We should come here every year for a family reunion!'
Thanks to John and Cynthia for sharing their lovely house with us, and their quick response to any questions we had is highly commendable.

The house was as advertised and was a great place for a family vacation. Our family included several very small children so we ate many meals in the house. The lovely, large kitchen was better-equipped than any rental home we’ve stayed in, and we loved that there were plenty of bedrooms for everyone—most all with en suite baths. We enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and outdoor area. The owners promptly responded to the couple of questions we had.

We had a fantastic vacation here. Three families stayed together, enjoyed attractions in the area, and a full pool day. We couldn't have had a better stay.

Our annual family reunion this year was held at the Thaddeus House. 10 adults and a 7 year old for 5 nights. House accommodated us very comfy. Kitchen has everything you will need. Plenty of towels. Rooms and bathrooms were exactly as described. Great place to spend time with large group and be able to just relax and enjoy. It’s a little old school meets modern vibe.

This was perfect place for our family reunion with a group of 14 to come together and create lasting memories. The house was incredibly spacious, with plenty of room for everyone to relax and spread out. The bedrooms were comfortable, and the large kitchen and dining table provided wonderful central gathering space for dining and family game nights. The thoughtful touches made by the host made our stay even more special. For example, a birthday gift basket for my dad who was turning 90 this year. John and Cynthia was fantastic! Communication was clear and easy, and they were incredibly response to our questions throughout our stay. We can’t thank them enough for their hospitality and for making our family reunion such a success. We highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a clean, spacious and family friendly place to stay in.
Five stars all around!

This is our second time staying at your property to celebrate one of our friends getting married. Needless to say, everything about the house was and is perfect. John and Cynthia were responsive and made the stay so easy. The house itself is beautifully maintained and kept. All 8 bedrooms have their own bathrooms and have linens to go with them. The only downfall is that this was our last friend to get married. Looks like we will just have to find a reason to come back other than our friends weddings!

The home had multiple spaces for people to spread out. We had 16 people here for a business retreat. We were able to do team building and work sessions without an issue. Just keep in mind that they’ll need to be ok with sharing a bed. Only the double bed was hard to be shared, the rest of the rooms were spacey and had queens or larger. Location was great! Lots of adventures to be had as a group! Great communication with the owner and it was clean and updated. Thank you for a great stay!

It was everything and MORE!! The Bridal suite was phenomenal ! Plenty of room for my daughter to get all set for her big day. The house had plenty of space for everyone to spread out and enjoy their stay. And the pool and hot tub were just icing on the cake .

We stayed here for a 60th birthday party weekend with 12 adults. House is amazing, bedrooms with bathrooms for everyone. The 2 sitting rooms were very comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped for presentation of our sit down dinner. Plenty of room at the large dining table for all. Hot tub right outside the door was a nice touch.
We are already planning when we can come back!!

We take a family ski trip every year, and this year, we decided on Sunday River in Newry, Maine. Now that we determined the ski resort, it was time to find a place to stay. We have a pretty big group and needed accommodations for fifteen, a mix of adults and children.
We landed on the Thaddeus Twitchell house. It easily handled the group and was only ten minutes from Sunday River. My mother, an avid cook, raved about the kitchen and all the kitchen-ware. Following a day on the slopes, we returned to the Thaddeus Twitchell house and relaxed in the hot tub; my 6-year-old daughter said that was her favorite part of the vacation. The communication with John and Cynthia was great leading up to our arrival and continued throughout our stay. We had a great time, and next time we are in Newry, we hope to stay at the Thaddeus Twitchell house.
Thank you!

This is our 2nd year at John and Cynthia's house and it was better than I remembered. It's well stocked with everything and has plenty of space for our group of 16. Improvements included new fire place and hot tub which we thoroughly enjoyed. Sunday River is just a few minutes away. We all agreed that we really couldn't have asked for more. Communication was clear and John's a fabulous host. We hope to be back next year!

Impressive and comfortable property for a group of friends, located just minutes from Sunday River as well as Bethel and other attractions. Well stocked kitchen and spacious layout to allow spaces for gatherings and allowing guests privacy.

14 friends had a great time at the Thaddeus Twitchell House. We prepared meals together in the large kitchen, ate as a group around the large dining room table, had plenty of space to be all together, or hang out in different rooms in smaller groups, or to get away for some quiet time in our comfortable bedrooms. The location was great for near-by skiing and snow-shoeing. Many of us took advantage of the hot tub. The owners were very responsive. I expect we'll be back.....

We stayed here for the second year in a row and had another great trip. John and Cynthia are super responsive to any questions and the house is great for large groups.
The location for Sunday River is perfect and the house is stocked with everything you could ever need. The new hot tub was great and we love the ability to spread out and all have our own space.
We will be back!

This house is incredible. We had a group of 16 for our annual friend group ski trip. First, it’s enormous, we were literally getting lost when moving in. Every room has a bathroom which was amazing.
The owners have really set the house up to accommodate large groups. Two coffee makers and two dishwashers were so key!
There’s even a Poland spring water cooler.
Owner is so responsive and helpful. This experience FAR exceeded our expectations!

We had a comfortable relaxing stay at the Twitchell house. Appreciated the large kitchen with and extra large island great for buffet style serving, large fridge, the hot tub, quality linens, and 8 separate bedrooms.

Amenities are exceptional - two dishwashers, fully-stocked kitchen with pots and pans, dishware, silverware, and other kitchenware for ultimate food prep convenience, two coffee makers, robes in each bedroom for use with the hot tub, towels and linens. Every bedroom has its own bathroom. Space is luxurious. Location is very convenient to Sunday River.

My family met there for my parents 60th anniversary, and it was an absolute pleasure to spend the weekend there.. as others have said, didn’t even need to leave the house, so much to do in a beautiful setting.
5.0 / 5.0
This house was great for our group of six families. We loved that we each got our own bathroom and that the pool was only 4ft deep since we have small children. There was so much space and we didn't feel cramped at all. The moms were able to escape one night and literally walked across the street for a drink. We didn't venture out much since there were so many of us but had great weather and hung out by the pool both days. Would probably have gotten more use our of the game room if our kids were a bit older- 6 months to 5---but they loved the pool and also a nice yard for games.

The Thaddeus Twitchell house is a great place for an extended family vacation! The house is large enough to provide group meals and communal space while at the same time having comfortable spaces for the necessary alone time! It is extremely well appointed with every thing necessary to prepare, cook, and serve all the family meals- from bbq to kitchen prepared. This is our second time staying there and will no doubt keep it at the top of our list for vacation spots!

This home was beyond amazing. Every detail is carefully attended. We were there with 15 family members. The bedrooms and bathrooms were so clean and well equipped. The kitchen was BEYOND fantastic. Everything was easily found, in great numbers for such a large group and everything you could have ever needed. The heated pool and hot tub were very well kept. The screened in porch, the volleyball nets, the lawn toys, the inside game room made our children enjoy the house for hours upon hours. The location is amazing. We hiked nearly every day, canoed, and enjoyed the close by restaurants and breweries. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing resort.

From the initial booking conversation to the final goodbye text, both John and Cynthia were excellent. Their pride and care in their home shines through on every interaction. This was our tenth year traveling as a group and we wanted special and memorable. The house was somehow both fancy and comfortable, with many amenties for all ages. We especially enjoyed the welcome basket greeting us upon arrival - it was unexpected and delightful. The house is very clean and stocked with anything we needed, beds are comfortable, and the neighborhood is quiet. The screened enclosure on the pool deck was everyone's favorite nighttime escape from pesky summer bugs. All in all, we hope to one day return. Thank you!

We stayed here for for 10 days (end of June through beginning of July). The house was perfect for our family! We were celebrating a few birthdays while we were there, and the homeowners had a beautiful, personalized gift basket waiting for us! The home was very clean and well equipped. There were 15 of us and plenty of dishes, glasses, towels, etc. There was also plenty of space, we never felt like we were crowded or on top of one another. You can tell the owners care deeply about this property. They were always available to answer questions if needed. One night while we were there we had an issue with one of the showers. When the plumber got there, he told us how good the owners were about maintaining the property. The pool was fantastic, and the hot tub was sublime. So many jets!
The house was located close to town and Sunday River, and there were lots of things to do close by.
I highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a very nice place to stay for a larger group. I would definitely go back again!

Thaddeus Twitchell house was spacious and offered everything our family could want on our vacation. The pool and hot tub were the perfect place for us to gather and enjoy. Great location, very easy to get to and near cute stores and many restaurants. We went kayaking on the Androscoggin River- the views were gorgeous. Cynthia and John were very responsive to our questions and needs. We would absolutely stay here again.

Traveling with a group of cycling friends. House conveniently located to some great cycling loops and the large hot tub was just what our legs needed after a day in the White Mtns, (Recommend the Grafton Notch and Evans Notch loops posted as best rides in Maine on Maine Bicycle Coalition website.)

Every year our family takes a group ski trip with our closest friends. Finding a place to stay that will accommodate our large group, and we all love, is often a challenge. The Thaddeus Twitchell house did not disappoint. In fact, it was above and beyond our expectations. This beautiful historical home was everything we wanted and more. We loved the spaciousness, cleanliness, and the unique décor of each room. Our children loved the game room and having their own space to hang out. We loved sitting by the fireplace each night and enjoying each other’s company. The large dining room was perfect for our Saturday night feast. All our needs were met, including the glassware for every type of drink. If you plan on heading to Sunday River, or visiting the local eateries, the Thaddeus Twitchell is close by. Aside from all this, our hosts John and Cynthia were very attentive to all our questions and needs. We made many great memories at this home and each member of our group agreed that this was one of their favorites!

The Thaddeus Twitchell house was the perfect spot for our small office’s ski retreat! Beautiful rooms, comfortable beds & with our own bathrooms. A wonderful chef’s kitchen to cook shared family style meals. Everything we could have hoped for! Highly recommend.

We had a group of 16 stay at this awesome house! Perfect for a weekend ski getaway with a group of friends, it was 10 min to Sunday River and had a food shop in walking distance if you needed any last minute groceries. We used the main living room and the kitchen the most, having 2 dishwashers and a 6 burner stove was great for our large group. The fire place and the hot tub were 2 features that we took full advantage of after a day on the slopes. Only thing we wish was that we were here for the summer so that we could hop into the pool and enjoy the yard a bit more.

Stayed at John and Cynthia's Bethel house for a ski trip with 4 families. The house is huge and we all lived comfortably with rooms to spare. Short drive to Sunday River and restaurants. Kitchen is well stocked and hosts provided all necessary check-in, check-out and house info. He even gave us a generous gift when he had to stop by to drop off firewood. Overall we highly recommend the house and will rebook. Thanks!

We had our annual ski trip here with friends, and it was so lovely! The house is huge, comfortable, and well stocked. We loved the fireplace and hot tub. Since we were there during a crazy cold spell (so cold that the ski mountains were closed one day), the hosts checked in often to make sure we had everything we needed. We would certainly stay here again.

We had a great weekend up in Bethel. The house catered to our large group perfectly And was in great proximity to Sunday River as well as the other attractions in Bethel. The house was so well equipped we didn’t even feel the need to leave at night.
Our group enjoyed all the different areas to congregate and you never would have known 16 of us were there. The home was so spacious.
We will definitely be back!

We were 4 families of 4 who skied Sunday River over the Christmas break. The house is approximately 5 minutes to the mountain and is on the shuttle route although it wasn’t available to us during our stay. The house is huge, in great condition, well stocked and surpassed our expectations. Communication with the owner was seamless. Highly recommended.
