About this house rental
Welcome to Lake'n Logs! This cottage, just outside the village of Watkins Glen and sitting up above Seneca Lake, is the quintessential cottage of yesteryear here in the Finger Lakes. The cottage was originally a small log cabin and had a stone addition added many years ago. Featuring many of the details of the original cottages here in the Finger Lakes...real log, stone, and originial windows, Lake'n Logs is simple and cozy and will take you back to the feel of years gone by, before the FLX became a destination and before the wineries in this area were founded.
Lake'n Logs is set up on a hill above Seneca Lake and while it does not have lakefront, it does have a view of the lake and the public lake access is just around the corner in the village of Watkins Glen. With only a few blocks to downtown Watkins Glen, Lake'n Logs is in great proximity to Watkins Glen State park, the restaurants/bars downtown, the small shops and Walmart, and also Watkins Glen International Speedway. The house is within walking distance of downtown, but the sidewalk for the town of Watkins Glen does not quite extend the whole way to the house.
Walking up the old rock walkway to the cottage, you'll enter through the front door and step into the old log part of the home. This room is now the Living Room with the old original fireplace gracing the one side of the Living Room. The fireplace has been converted into a lovely gas fireplace. The Living room has a comfortable sectional for relaxing and watching a movie or cable TV. High speed internet is also available and the Living Room has a small desk area to sit at if you forgot to leave your work at home.
Turning to the right, you will walk into the hallway that leads to Bathroom #1 with a tub/shower and down the hallway a little further you will enter the Dining Room. With large old windows overlooking the lake, the Dining Room is a great spot for sitting down to dinner. Behind the Dining room is a full Kitchen with a small eat-up bar area that is open to the Dining Room.
Back to the Living Room and to the left is Bedroom #1 with windows facing out toward the lake and a King size bed. This room is quite large and has an outside entry door that walks out onto the small stone patio at the south end of the house.
Bedroom #2 is also off of the Living Room, connected by a small hallway. Bedroom #2 has a Queen bed. Just outside of Bedroom #2 is a small full bath with a shower.
Going up the small stairway to the second floor, you'll enter an open(landing type) area at the top of the stairs. There is a Full bed set up in this area and two steps up you'll walk into Bedroom #3. Bedroom #3 is open to the stairway and the landing area with a large arched doorway and has a Full bed. For privacy, there is a privacy screen which can be set up in the arched doorway area.
Bedroom #4 can be reached by a small hallway from the landing or through a separate door between Bedroom #3 and Bedroom #4 (these two rooms are connected by that doorway). Bedroom #4 has 3 Twin beds and is tucked under the eaves of the house with a window facing out toward the lake.
Since the home is built of thick log and stone, air conditioning is not able to be installed on the main floor but there is a wall unit that cools the upstairs areas and the main floor stays quite cool because of the thick stone/log walls. Ceiling fans are available for use in the main floor areas along with the main floor bedrooms.
Lake'n Logs is set into a wooded area and is surrounded by trees. There is a small yard area for playing yard games and a small stone patio area with a firepit. The creek is beautiful and lovely to listen to.
The driveway leading to the house is on an incline and we would advise using 4x4 during the fall/winter months or parking down below by the street level and walking up to the cottage. There is parking for only 2 vehicles in the parking area by the cabin, any additional vehicles will need to be parked down on the street level. There are 2 designated spots for the cabin along the street if you should need to park at the street level.
If you are looking for a laid back spot to relax and unwind in the Finger Lakes and enjoy the feel of a cottage from yesteryear, Lake'n Logs will be just the place for you. Keep in mind that, because the home is log and stone, has many original windows, and is set in a wooded area, bugs may enter at times. Lake'n Logs feels close to nature and will allow you the tranquility you desire from nature.

Top ratings all the way around- just try to make sure you have a 4-wheel drive to get up the driveway.

Great location close to Watkins Glen. Very interesting and unusual property with plenty of space. One issue we had was negotiating a short step between the living room and the dark hallway to the dining room. One member of our party failed to notice it as he was carrying a cooler to the kitchen and tripped and his fall required a trip to the hospital for stitches. This step should be highlighted in some way.

excellent view of Seneca Lake; parking misleading; advertisement
slightly exaggerated; the picture was helpful but didn't tell the whole
story and we didn't expect it would;

Convenient Location
We really appreciated the location of this house. We had the other half of our group cancel on us so the place was massive for just two people. And understand when they say this is an older cabin it is definitely an older cabin with few updates. But it worked well for our home base to all the fabulous State Parks & Wineries in the area and we had a wonderful week.

This antique cabin has absolutely amazing views and tons of space! The location is excellent and there is a waterfall next to the fire pit area.

We just needed a place to stay for a girls weekend and it worked perfect for us. Plenty of sleeping areas/beds and well equipped. Was a little bit dusty in some parts of the house but overall a good stay

Home was sparkling clean with lots of character and an amazing view. The property manager was super responsive and polite. Only minor issue was that there was a lot of trash left from the previous renters so we didn’t have room in the bins for our own. Overall would absolutely recommend!
