About this house rental
The Trapper’s Cabin is a 2 bedroom 1 bath cabin located in the heart of Gasquet, CA, conveniently situated off the 199 highway. Gasquet is 20 miles from the ocean, 10 miles from the Redwood National Forest, and sits directly on the Smith River. Come for the many adventures that the tallest trees, cleanest river, and secluded beaches have to offer, but stay for a sense of pure serenity.
The cabin is just a short walk to the river. There is a fish cleaning station and grill in the backyard for anyone who is lucky enough to catch a prize winning steelhead or salmon. The immediate neighborhood is perfect for bike rides, hiking, kayaking, fishing, swimming, mushroom hunting, berry picking, bigfoot hunting, bird watching, quartz or gold mining, and stargazing. There is also an amazing massage therapist within walking distance, in case your adventures have left you feeling a bit sore.
At the Trapper’s Cabin, you will have a spectacular view of the Adam’s Station, a local landmark. The view will take you back to the 1800’s, when Mary Adams Peacock entertained the many travelers who stopped at her B&B for a warm meal and comfortable bed. Yet, the cabin itself, has all the comforts and amenities of home. It has been designed for the explorer who still likes to come home to a memory foam mattress and smart TV.
There is a queen sized mattress in each of the two bedrooms, as well as two cot-sized day beds in the living room, in case you need to sleep six. There is also a full kitchen and small laundry room. The backyard is secure and well suited for pets or small children. Although the cabin is relatively private, after a walk around the neighborhood, you will find that Gasquet has some of the most friendly neighbors around.
NOTES:
There is only one market in Gasquet with limited groceries. You will want to come prepared if you plan on cooking. The nearest grocery store is in Crescent City (20 miles west) or Cave Junction (35 miles east). There is also only one restaurant in Gasquet (Patrick Creek Lodge) and one restaurant in Hiouchi, the next town west, (Hiouchi Cafe).
If you would like to book a massage, fishing trip, kayak rental, etc. you should do so well in advance. The following is a list of resources:

My family traveled from Tri-Cities WA for one more vacation getaway before school started. Our trip was almost haulted completely when our vehicle was totaled in Cave Junction. This trapper cabin became our saving grace. With the kindess of locals we were able to get to Gasquet and check in. Our host went above and beyond. The cookies, the doggie amenities and human amenities. Haha. The cabin was cozy, full of character and charm. We loved being able to sit outside at night with the lighting. The washer and dryer became a perk we didn't know we needed. After dealing with insurance and all that fluff. Being able to settle in after enjoying the day at the beach or river was much anticipated. We'll be back.
Thank you for everything.
Love and Light,
The Bell Family

This is one of the most impressive places I've stayed at! Walking distance to the river, super dog friendly, great amenities! I will definitely be back! Thank you for being such a great host!

The CUTEST VRBO that had all the amenities of home but in a centrally-located place within minutes from rivers, ocean and the Redwoods. Also dog-friendly and made the trip so much more special being able to take my dog with me.

Simple & cute accommodations to enjoy Smith River & the Jedediah Smith Redwoods. Nice backyard patio with large table to eat and play games.

“Should have sent a poet”
This place is fully equipped, anytime we need something it just happened to be in arms reach.
The oak/evergreen combo tree in the back yard is so cool!

This was a great little house for our family of four and two dogs. The dogs loved the backyard and the teens loved the porch swings.

My partner and I enjoyed our stay. It was cozy and comfortable. Our dog enjoyed the large fenced in backyard and the fenced in front porch!
While not all of the area excursions are dog-friendly, we enjoyed hikes in the Smith River Recreation area, Walker Road, Crescent City, and the Trees of Mystery.

This home was beautiful! Very clean and dog friendly! It has a large fenced area for the dogs and even a dog basket full of different items to use, (which our dogs loved the bed). The kids very much enjoyed the front swings and the large map on the wall. Great place and will visit again!

Such a charming property with a perfect location. Stayed with my husband and our 2 small kids under the age of 2. Plenty of room for us and outdoor space to enjoy. Quick drive to many swimming holes along the Smith River, as well as trailheads through the redwoods. Had all the comforts of home and my toddler loved the fresh cookies. The only thing I wish it had was a stopper to the tub, it was too rusty to use. We will absolutely stay here again.

Loved the decor. Fully stocked. Wonderful stay!

My partner and our two dogs came to stay three nights and explore the redwoods and go to the coast
Love the energy of this home
Thoughtful in its furnishings and decorations
Map is spectacular!
Love the neighborhood
Some things that need attention and improvement:
Yard in poor shape and unsafe for kids and pets- foxtails growing, garbage from past renters including cig. Butts and whole cherries w pits
Porch not cleaned up well and guests eat there
Need more hand towels in bathroom than one
Windows stuck shut
Broken kitchen door blind
Terrible cheap TP
Could use a small poop scooper for pet clean up
Consider a folding table for inside dining

Our family needed a place to stay before hitting the trails of the Redwood Forest and this place was perfect! It was very dog friendly for our furry family with a wonderful fenced in backyard. I love that there were plenty of blankets around the house for anyone who got cold, and there were plenty of towels for showers in the morning, very thoughtful! We also really enjoyed the wall map and the little notes that other attendees had left about places on the map, it was a very fun touch! Also, the cabin is very easy to access from 199, we had no trouble finding it (even after a VERY LONG day's drive). I highly recommend checking this place out if you want to stay close to the Redwood National Parks.

We stayed at this quaint cabin/cottage on a beautiful quiet street. Trees galore and it makes for a beautiful walk or a lovely run. The backyard has a large deck with a barbecue grill and down below is a fire pit. It was a perfect place to explore the redwoods.

We used the cabin as a launching pad to explore the Redwoods, and its proximity to Stout Grove was wonderful.
We filled all 6 available sleeping places as a family. Space was tight but there were many comforts that made the space enjoyable: homemade cookies upon arrival, lots of blankets and extra pillows, and wonderful smelling hand soap in the bathroom. The kitchen was well stocked and Bridget had bottled water in a jug in the fridge, too.
A few more mats at the front and back door entrances would have been helpful for keeping the space clean, and the bathroom has seen better days. It was also clear that people with pets love to stay here - every now and then we ran into pet hair in unexpected places.
But overall it was clean and comfortable and as described online. Especially appreciated access to the washer and dryer, as we came back dirty from our hiking adventures. The back deck has the most wonderful eating area with cafe lights! The kids loved it.

We came for a getaway among the trees and to explore the beautiful Smith River area. The Cabin was very comfortable and met most all our needs. Very close to beautiful outdoor recreation and spots (trails, river swimming, Jedediah Redwoods) and great back deck to sit outside and enjoy.
Host Bridget was very responsive and friendly.
We plan to return.

This little house was packed with all the necessary touches that make it a home away from home. The kitchen was stocked with utensils, plates, pans etc and had a few extra items (like salt). The water pressure was decent, there were plenty of pillows and the fenced in yard was huge- exactly what we needed for the pups. The host was available for any questions and quick to respond. Enough parking for 2 vehicles. Having a washer and dryer was helpful after our river towels got musty. The market was fully stocked but remeber to check the expiration dates. Short distance to river access. And of course the cookies were a nice touch. Oh and AC!

The cabin was a beautiful clean space with everything needed for an amazing week in beautiful Northern California with all the comforts of home. The internet didn't work well, but since disconnecting was part of the goal for the vacation, that wasn't really an issue for us. We would definitely rent this cabin again!

This was my favorite stay on our road trip! Bridget really thought of everything to make both guests and dogs comfortable and at home. My favorite details were the white cheddar popcorn snack offerings, the dog treats, the adorable shabby chic styling details and homemade cookies waiting for us upon arrival. The deck and yard were wonderful to relax while knowing your dogs are safely enclosed. The house is convenient to multiple points of interest, and coming back to rest and re charge here after a day of exploring was a treat. Thank you sharing your home. We loved our stay.

Highly recommend this lovely 2 bedroom, fully equipped home. This location is FULLY FENCED which is really hard to find traveling with pups. Totally recommend this unique, tucked away gem in the pines of Northern California.

Peaceful location, easy access, clean, cute, would absolutely recommend!
Turn WiFi calling on on your cellphone otherwise some cell service might be spotty while at the property.

Excellent, had everything we needed plus some not expected. Couldn't have asked for a better host. The area around Gasquet has alot of history an sites to explore. Very quite an friendly neighborhood. Definitely a must if you want to get away from the hustle of city life.

Gorgeous cabin in a beautiful area. This place was secluded and quiet but also only 10-15min drive to many trails in the Redwoods. Backyard was spacious and gorgeous we are all our meals out there.

This was my second trip to the adorable cabin in Gasquet. It’s cozy and well-appointed. The huge private yard with deck and fire pit is everything. (Make sure it’s a “burn day” before using.) great jumping off point for hiking, visiting state and national parks, the beach, and all that Del Norte has to offer. Bridget is an amazing host.

Loved the place. Easy to find. Quite neighborhood. Loved the fenced backyard. We traveled with our dog it was really nice to be able to let her run around off leash. There was even a basket with a dog bed and bowl. The place made you feel comfortable as soon as you walked it.

The Trapper Cabin is adorable, exactly like the photos, and in a very central location to all things Redwoods. Bridget thought of EVERYTHING, the little touches like having access to olive oil, salt, pepper, laundry soap makes things easier to get by without having to buy your own when you use so little. I would def stay here again. Very cute place.

The chocolate chip cookies were the only nice touch. The hot water was great, water was awesome from the tap. The backyard was fenced and private with a huge deck, complete with overhead lights. Overall very nice. The bed was comfortable.
First impression....
When I walked in, the cottage reeked of fabric softener sheets. Maybe Fabreze, I don't know. But it REEKED. Now most of you might love that smell, but I do not. I am allergic to those chemicals. It took a full 24 hours to get the smell out or for me get used to it. I woke up four mornings sneezing.
Kitchen Light
Brigette told me via email when I checked in that the kitchen light did not work. Well, inconvenient to cook in the kitchen with no light, and she told me she changed the bulbs but that did not help. Additionally, there are electrical outlets that do not work, and the lights in the bathroom flicker constantly. I had to plug my computer into the outlet where the coffee machine is, as I could not find another outlet that had power. This electrical issue did not make me feel safe or comfortable.
Clean?
The whole cottage was not clean, at least not to my standard. There were stains on the bed comforter. The kitchen floor looked like it needed to be mopped. There was no plug for the kitchen sink, I had to stop it up with a paper towel so I could do the dishes.
Bathroom
No place to hang the wet towels. This was interesting.
I stayed for four nights
I was booked for six nights, and stayed four. I was ready to go home after the first night. Overall, not impressed. Would not return.

This home is perfectly situated among the majestic redwood trees. The house is away from the congestion of the beach areas but a quick drive to the Smith River and the State Parks. This area is one of our favorite places to visit with the mild weather and the beautiful surroundings. The home is equipped with AC and has a beautiful deck in the backyard for a BBQ. There is also a fire pit which we did not use. The home is comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked. We enjoyed the chocolate chip cookies that were left for us. We will definitely be back!

Perfect location for the Redwoods!
This is a clean, cute little bungalow about 10 min from Jed Smith Redwood state park, very close to the Smith River, 25 min from Crescent City, etc. We were exploring all the redwood state and national parks and really loved the location (It is a longer drive down to the national park, but beautiful!). The property itself was clean and well-equipped, though small and not much room for hanging out unless you count the very nice back porch! I personally wouldn’t want to share this with more than 1-2 people.
The host was very quick to respond and had great recommendations as well. We would absolutely stay here again!
