Needs newer bed linens, a/c upstairs not adequate/doesn’t cool, throw rugs need replacing, floors have a lot of weak areas feels like could fall through, middle ceiling fan on screen porch doesn’t work. Outdoor building w shower had not been cleaned and was nasty. Chloroxed and cleaned myself so could use outdoor shower. Couldn’t get the shower head to work by attaching hose from the house to outdoor shower so brought my own hose and just used a hose. Needs a non-stick frying pan and some plastic storage containers.

The location is perfectly lovely looking out over the water towards Cape Fear lighthouse. The porch is perfect for lazy afternoons or gathering with friends. Accommodations are dated but clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

Second year in a row we have rented this house and loved it even more this year! It has excellent boat parking and facilities!! It has great cooking and dining area. It was extremely clean and well stocked. It is beautifully located and decorated in coastal theme and has outdoor screened in porch with amazing views of sunrise and sunsets and a beautiful yard! We cannot wait to stay here again!!

The lodge is located in a private serene setting with three views of the water. It sits among huge live oaks, beautiful azaleas, Holly bushes, and lantanas which makes it seem like a garden. The owners have furnished it so it feels like home with everything you need for an enjoyable stay.

Surprised because wasn’t sure what was stocked at house, description was vague. Pictures good for furniture but in the kitchen wasn’t sure & it was well stocked. Only thing I am glad I brought was a large crock pot, they had a small one. We brought our boat and if your boat has T top, be careful due to the abundance of low lying trees. They were lovely on the property, but could rip or scrape a top. The property had a nice sink to clean fish, would be nice if the hoses worked around the property. I think only one outside hose worked. In addition, we had several things that happened that the property managers had to be called. The code didn’t work to get into house but only had to wait about 30 minutes for them to get that worked out. Also, washing machine had leak and water was turned off to the machine. Luckily, Caleb came to the rescue and discovers the only leak was the hot water and could use the cold only and it would work. But, the property managers were quick to answer calls. Lots of little fixes would be nice to add to the property. You pay enough for the stay, it really should be expected not to have the nuances, but it happens. The screening on the porch should be a definite fix, it’s a focal point of the house. Bugs can and are able to join in on the porch with you due to rips in the screening. Another odd thing happened. Someone showed up with binoculars and said they were returning them. Seems they had a sick parent, maybe with dementia and she took them, and they were retuning them. We left them on a table as we weren’t sure where they went. Overall, we would love to stay at that property, but for amount charged per night, definitely not worth. If you get a half price deal, I would go back.

Summer Vacation
Loved the location of the property. The view from the front porch of the Cape Lookout Lighthouse across the water never got old. Discovered trails over by the ferry and even a bird blind.

Mix of old and new. Nice stay!
Nice new appliances. Great central family space. Nice front porch with the lighthouse clearly visible. It’s so close to the ferries! Would be nice if the outside shower was turned on since we were pretty sandy a lot.

Great Place to get away!
We were very pleased with this house. Comfortable with modern appliances. Surrounded by mature live oaks the yard is wonderful. It’s a mile from the Cape Lookout Ferry terminal. We had great adventures everyday.

Always a concern when renting online, but this was just as shown. Beautiful location, huge house, plenty of linens. We had room for our boat and hoses to wash down, close to ramps. Truly my only complaint was the kitchen stove was filthy, grease and food on top. A roach crawled out from the convection oven when I was bleaching everything. We are not snobby people, but we are, and expect clean.

RELAXING!
We totally enjoyed relaxing at this property. The slowed down atmosphere of the island and community were exactly what our family needed. Sitting on the porch looking at the water was awesome. The house is so close to the ferry over to Cape Lookout, what a bonus! We will be back soon!

Quiet dog-friendly retreat
This was a great get away for our family. We were able to get out of the house, bring our dogs and were a short walk from the ferry over to Shackleford Island. The place comes with a couple of nice extras - like a boogie board and binoculars. The shops around the island have the grocery essentials but I would recommend hitting up the store on the way in for anything beyond that. It was a much needed vacation!

Getaway
We was trying to just get away for a few days while social distancing so we thought this would be a great place. The kitchen drawers and refrigerator was disgusting. We only bought microwave food and used our cooler.

Nice cottage.
Nice cottage. A lot of the owners items were on display and we were not used to that. It wasn’t a problem just different from past properties we’ve stayed. It was clean and had plenty of room for us. One bedroom lists three beds but there were only two. Again, not an issue for us but might be for others needing that extra bed.
