About this house rental
Quirky and retro and different and definitely not a corporate hotel. It's clean and fun and centrally-located in the Harrisburg/Hershey Central PA area.
It used to be the town bank, so it has open space and plenty of indoor space. It was the town bank for over 60 years and now it's been renovated to be my home. It can host anything from a couple's weekend to small events such as family reunions. I rent it out when I'm out of town so it's all yours if you reserve it. It's my home some of the time, so it's got most of the usual things you'd expect to find as far as amenities.
*please do read the whole description before reserving; just so you have a really good idea of what you can look forward to during your visit......and of course please ask any questions you like😁
It's five minutes from downtown Harrisburg and a little over 20 minutes to HersheyPark area (about 11 miles). Two miles from the Farm Show. It's 3 miles from I-83 and I-81, so it's convenient to just about everything in the PA Capital Region.
There are lots of restaurants, nightspots, shopping, and anything else you might need, all within about 10 minutes.
The town of Penbrook isn't fancy and the main street you'll often use and where the house is located is not exactly picturesque. It's a blue-collar kind of town and not wealthy, but it's quite safe, convenient, and close to a lot of stuff. The town itself is small and more of a throughway. It's certainly not touristy. The town once off the main street is fairly quiet and quaint.
The building is decorated and furnished in my personal taste, which is Americana retro, like mid-century 1950's and 1960's mostly. All of the modern touches are there, including top-notch Internet and electronics. Please be aware that this is not a hotel or resort. It's my part-time home and decorated in my own personal style.
Hopefully you'll agree that it's cool, fun, and a positive and uplifting vibe. It's got a lot of open space and it's decorated in my personal style and of course that might not be for everyone. So please check out the pictures and feel free to ask any questions before booking.
My guests are welcome to use the instruments, play the games, and enjoy anything in the house. Feel free to eat the snacks, cook, use the spices, have a beer (and nothing wrong with leaving a beer either). It's a fully-furnished home and you're welcome to use it as such.
This is my home much of the time and is a completely-stocked home. I don't have fancy tastes, but it's certainly clean and has plenty of linens, extra blankets, tons of pillows, and much, much more. I like a comfortable home!
There are a lot of old-school board games, puzzles, card games, and more. I try to bring the place back to the age when people spent quality time together rather than everyone retreating to their rooms and play on the phone. (not that there isn't good wi-fi there too, lol)
It's got a lot of space inside (my buddies and I even throw football to each other inside.....not saying you should do that, but you could ;) However, I want to make sure everyone has an accurate description. There is virtually no outdoor space. It used to be a bank and banks don't need yards. There is just enough green area where your doggy could use the restroom, so to speak, but there isn't much in the way of "hanging out" space outside.
The unique house is basically "in town". It's about five minutes from downtown Harrisburg in Penbrook. Penbrook is a calm town; it's not fancy but it has its charms. A lot of people drive through Penbrook during morning and afternoon rush-hour because it has a main road. But other than the "commuting" hours it's a fairly quiet town. But again, the town itself is not upscale or fancy; but it's certainly safe and centrally-located.
There is a parking lot that is part of this property that has room for up to 15 vehicles. It's just across the street about 50' from the house. There is usually on-street parking as well that's even closer to the house.
My house is big inside and centrally-located but it has very little green area. There are parks nearby though. It's a big, fun place with a positive vibe inside with lots of indoor space and room to spread out. Many guests say the pictures don't do it justice and that it's more impressive in person.
There is a good local pizza shop right across the street and you can walk to the 7/11. Plenty of restaurants and shopping are minutes away and you can be along the river in Harrisburg or at City Island to watch professional baseball in 10 minutes. Hersheypark is less than 20 minutes away.
There is a well-stocked bar that has room for around 5-10 people. The bar is on the honor system and please feel free to leave something behind ;)
There are my music instruments that I leave out for all to enjoy. (guitars, stand-up bass, drums) I totally understand that once in a while something gets broken: picture falls off a wall, guitar string breaks, etc., but please let me know. Otherwise it might be a while before I notice, especially with drum-sticks or guitar strings.
*Please be clear that the number of guests includes anyone who is visiting even if they are not expected to spend the night. The rate is based somewhat on the number of guests. It's not just the number who would be spending the night. I'm not opposed to larger groups, but please be open about the estimated number of guests and the occasion for the visit. *
There is a parking lot that is part of this property as well that can park up to a dozen or more vehicles. The parking lot is about 50 feet from the house and across a one-way alley. There is also on-street parking and usually at least a couple of spots right along the building. You can always load/unload right in front of the building on the main road (Walnut Street) for short-term purposes.
Please feel free to ask whatever questions you like before booking! It's definitely better to ask ahead of time to avoid anyone being let down. Also, it might be helpful if you have a large group to have several of the adults in the group read over this description. The last thing I'd want is someone to have something completely different in mind and be surprised when they arrive.
I realize that sometimes the person booking the reservation may have different tastes and preferences than the rest of their party. So please ask all adults to read this profile/description before your stay. I just want to make sure expectations are more than met. This is a fun and unique property, but if someone is expecting the kind of home that Martha Stewart stays at, they might not appreciate the quirkiness.
Events such as small wedding receptions, family reunions, or company get-togethers are welcome. However, parties for locals just having a party for the sake of partying are not allowed. Unfortunately the only problem guests have been 20'something locals who just want to have a party. Most events are welcome as long as they are accurately described at the time of the reservation request. Please just ask if you're not sure. Please be clear that the number of guests visiting needs to be included on your reservation request.
I realize this site doesn't do a great job at labelling the rates and fees. There are reasons the rate varies depending on the number of guests. For example: a married couple wanting a weekend alone is far different from 20 guys having a bachelor party. The wear and tear, resources used, and possible extra clean-up all costs a lot more. But if the rate is the same for 20 people it would be too expensive for couples or a small family.
I am pretty reasonable about guest charges. For example, if you're staying three days and want to have a small get-together for a few hours on just one of the days, I'm not expecting you to pay for each guest for three days. Unfortunately the website doesn't make some of those nuances easy to tackle. So just message me ahead of time with any questions. That being said, if you're having ten friends over for the day there should be a fair surcharge.
The Covid times and too many guests abusing the "group events" have put a damper on larger groups. I'm not opposed to them but I do expect anyone submitting a reservation to be up-front about their intentions. ....hopefully that seems reasonable to all.
I don't charge a cleaning fee and most of the time there is no security deposit. In fact the only "fee" charged is for pets. Any other fees or taxes are charged by the website and the local and state government......I don't anyreceive of that.
*About pets: I love animals and I don't want to say "no pets". However, I now realize why some owners don't accept them. Most dogs do bark as soon as the owners leave, whether the owners believe that or not, lol. Most dogs do shed a bit more when they have stress. They do sometimes make a "mess" inside. Worst of all would be the possibility of fleas. Please be 100% sure your pet was recently treated before arriving. Also, my limit on number of dogs or cats is two. That doesn't mean exceptions can't be made, but I think an additional fee would be fair and please inquire first. ....I really don't like having rules, but the pets have sometimes been more difficult than one might expect.*
I do my best to be a super chill host and I'm happy to do what I can to help with special requests.
You'd be reserving the entire home for your family or friends. Single rooms aren't available to rent.
The "Main Street" of Penbrook that you'll take into town isn't much to look at. Unfortunately I can't make the immediate area around the house prettier, lol, but the town itself is actually quite quaint and pleasant.
Feel free to ask for area recommendations; especially if you're torn between a few choices. Central PA is a wonderful area with a lot to offer!

We had a great time. It did t matter the age, we all found the unit highly intriguing and unique. More than enough space yet close enough to enjoy our time together.

We had a great time at this amazing place! All the decor was great and we loved looking at everything. It is a great and i hope we will be able to go back soon!

We didnt get to spend much time at the house, but what we did was very enjoyable. The kids/teens were more than entertained with everything in the house. The recommendations Biff made for things in the are was great. Would 1000% stay again.

This was such a fun place to stay and Biff Is a very laid back host, really made me and my family feel welcomed ! Close to everything and plenty to do on a rainy day just inside this VRBO !

This was a great place to stay. We had a large group and it gave us space to gather and space to be in separate groups. Great options for games, music, instruments and things to do. Was convenient to Hershey which was our focus of the stay.

This property is an old bank that was converted into a VRBO. It's SOOOO unique! Loved it!!! We took 30 minutes just exploring the different rooms and took it all in. One morning I played the drums to wake up the crew! Got a picture of one of our guys sleeping in the vault. So many great memories and Biff was easy to communicate with throughout the stay. Would stay again for sure!

We had plenty of room to spread out in the bank house and all 5 of us picked a room to sleep in. We all enjoyed playing the musical instruments. My son and husband played some songs together. The bank is decorated with everything. It was kinda like sleeping in an multi level antique shop or your cool uncle's basement. Eclectic blend of memorabilia and quirky and fun decor. The bank is old so keep that in mind. It has the charming things that older buildings do with all the modern stuff you need. I loved the artwork and the place was overall comfy, homey and inviting. If you are used to suburbia, the location is more urban and parking was atypical but we always found a spot to park with no issue. It would be a great house to play hide and seek in. Definitely recommend and would stay again if we were in the area.

A group of 20 of us stayed at Biffs place. It was awesome. There was plenty of room for us all to sleep. It was really fun and funky. It was close to Hersheypark a local brewery and a good pizza shop. That’s all we needed to satisfy us it’s not the kind of neighborhood you wanna go hang out outside, but it was safe enough and we had a blast. We would definitely stay there again.

The Bank was just as described by owner Biff. We were in town for a lacrosse tournament and enjoyed the comfortable and kid friendly home. Way more space than we needed, but much more affordable than 3 nights in hotel rooms. The four young boys in our group enjoyed the instruments, foosball table, darts, video games, board games, and more. A true fun house!!

This place was so cool and a short drive from the concert venue. We were in town to see Baroness and Red Fang. It was awesome to come back and hang around the bar for late night pizza and beers. We will rent here anytime we are in town! Thanks Biff!

Everything at Biff’s Bank was exactly as advertised and a smooth process. Our family had fun with all the memorabilia and games in the bank.
It’s worth noting that some rooms don’t have doors and the kitchen is up 2 flights of stairs. The area is advertised as Blue Collar and while that may be true some of the homes in the immediate vicinity are pretty run down and could make you feel skeptical. We had absolutely no issues and felt perfectly safe but it’s worth mentioning so someone else has realistic expectations. Thanks Biff for hosting us!

Such a great time! Our dog loved it, too. We slept well and you have a lot of sleeping places to choose from. Despite being near the road it’s very quiet inside. Biff was incredibly easy to communicate with. It’s really worth visiting this unique location.

Such a fun and eclectic place. Tons of bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a lovely kitchen and a Rockin’ Rec Room! The bar, the foosball table, the instruments, a record player and on and on and on. Always something new to notice and enjoy! We had a wonderful stay. Oh, Roberto’s Pizza across the street has great pizza and salads! TYSM, Biff!

This place is the coolest, most relaxing, comfortable, "man cave" yet family oriented place I have ever experienced. My family enjoyed The Bank as much as we enjoyed the "attractions" we paid to go see. I will 100% recommend your place to anybody who will listen. Please do yourself a favor and just stay here. Best communication from any place I have ever stayed. Thank you again for everything!

The Bank is like stepping through time. Decorated in mid 20th Americana, it has plenty of space for people to chill, have a few drinks, and have a great time. Biff is great communication, had no issues with anything in the place. A one of a kind place that can bring out anyone’s sense of whimsy or nostalgia.

Coolest chill place ever. While this could be a get away for a large group, it can also be a place to unwind after a long day of work meetings. Biff is such a great communicator and has put so much character into this place. Definitely recommend for anyone.

This was a great place, plenty of space, close to Hershey attractions.

Our family loved our stay! Pics look like its different rooms, but it is a great open space with lots of places to sit, play and hang out! Lots of beds, but some rooms had two queen beds in them.....just mentioned for different groupings, couples and families. Use stuff-leave stuff kinda place! Recommend by all 17 of us!!

Omg. We just got back from Hershey. House is absolutely amazing!!!!. My husband wants to send u things for your house when we get back.. Your style is so wonderfully random. I love it. We are having the best time here. My daughter keeps asking to move in lol. Biff was a great host!

Family and friends came in for our sons wedding and it was the best place we could have stayed. I can’t wait to see the day of getting ready pics of the groom and grooms men in this awesome house. Biff was great helping on the planning and check in process.

Our friend’s weekend getaway landed us at Biff’s place. We played hide and seek, shot darts, played board games, and just kicked back in the main area. The bank stay was unlike anything we had ever experienced. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a fun and different kind of experience with a group of friends!

We would absolutely look to stay here the next time we are in Hetshey!

All I can say is WOW!! The pictures do not do the place justice! Biff was great with communication and tons of information. When we teturn to the area, we hope that The Bank is open!

A great quirky home. Arrived to a basket of snacks and loved all the nostalgic items around the house. Would have loved a record player for the classic albums . Highly recommended.

This place was more than we could've hoped for!!! Aside from it being so uniquely cool...its very comfortable and welcoming. Location was perfect and super convenient to everything.

It was fun scenery. Kitchen upstairs was difficult for my mom and the shower being upstairs was an issue. But we had lots of fun. Great location to get to everything. Easy to reach the owner. Well equipped and entertaining.

Definitely a different experience! The place had an "older" smell but given it's history, that seems to be expected. The oddity of the place is what makes it special and a fun place fir anyone. We would stay again if we are in the area on the future!

The Bank was a unique place to stay - pretty cool conversion from a bank into a house. Two male adults, two male teenagers on a HersheyPark getaway. We enjoyed the vibe but it could use some updating and a cleaner look overall. The location was fine, but I would have preferred the entrance to have an updated lock and some privacy (particularly at night when the lights are on, you can see most of the first floor through the entranceway which is all glass.). Parking was fine on the street around the corner. Biff was responsive and accommodating. All in, we had a memorable stay and if the property gets some updating, we would definitely look to come back. Thank you for your hospitality, Biff!

Our family of 5 Adults (parents & Grandparents) and 4 Grandkids (11-13 years old)stayed here overnight as we visited Hersheypark.
I seriously believe the kids enjoyed their time more at the Bank than Hersheypark.
They were just amazed at the space offered. We were even treated to an impromptu band concert in the morning using the instruments there. Of course the two bank vaults just intrigued them too.
The adults were impressed with all the unusual decor. Each time they looked tgey would find something new to talk about. Biff was a great host and provided much more "stuff" than any other host we've used before. Overall a very fun and enjoyable experience! It truly is amazingly indescribable!

This place and the owner seem too good to be true, and most laid-back person I’ve ever encountered! It’s exactly as described. A Bank converted into a house. It’s bizarre and quirky and pretty much everything it says in the description. There’s a spot on the wall where people sign their name or leave messages. So many bizarre pictures and statues and knickknacks. It’s fun to go around the house and take a bunch of pictures and then play scavenger hunt with the pictures where people trying to find where each of the things are. Again read the description owner lives here much of the time there’s stuff in the fridge, and the furniture is very lived in. But again a very cool, unique place to stay. We will talk about for a long time! Only spent one night on a weekend trip to Hershey Park but it was very cool!

Biff and his property are truly one of a kind. I stayed with 3 other adults and 4 children and we had plenty of space to romp and hang out. The kids loved the vaults! Not only was the place clean, but Biff (the host) gave us amazing local recommendations from local parks and candy stores to bars and restaurants to try out. My faith in rental platforms had been declining, but when you stay at a place like the Bank with a host like Biff, it makes it worthwhile.

On our family trip to Hershey this summer, I came across this gem on VRBO. The place did not disappoint! The eclectic vibe of "THE BANK" was extraordinary! From the retro nick naks to the barber chairs at the bar area we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! The kids were excited to play with the fun accoutrements like the drum set and guitars and the other games that the owner had there, as the adults relaxed at the bar.
Sleeping was a breeze as there were plenty of beds to go around. I will suggest a night (or two) in the vault bedroom.....was certainly a different type of experience!
Only 20 mins (give or take) to Hershey with plenty of restaurants and breweries to keep everyone happy!
The owner was fantastic to work with as well!
All-in-all a great trip that we will not soon forget!!!

We had a great time at the Bank! We did have to get used to the layout and the few open air bedrooms. Overall it is a really fully stocked awesome place to stay!

The property was lots of fun. The family really enjoyed the instruments area. Lots of room for everyone to enjoy. Plenty of bedrooms (6 on 1st floor, 2 on 2nd) and bathrooms (powder room on 1st floor and 2 full bathrooms on 2nd) Trip to Hershey Park was a short ride from the property.

Stayed at The Bank on our vacation. Biff was very friendly and the place was perfect for my family. Parking was a little iffy, but Biff was there for us when i reached out. Overall we loved it!
