About this house rental
The Old Post Office is on the Angles Way, situated in the small country village of Geldeston, a very picturesque part of the Waveney River Valley on the Suffolk/Norfolk borders, the area is designated a national park known as “The Norfolk Broads”. An area of protected wetland, heaving with an abundance of flora, forna & wildlife, with this section of the Waveney River being famous for kingfishers, these being counted as local residents, just listen out for their high pitched call from the riverbank. The extremely good water quality has also lead to an abundant variety of fish, roach, perch, bream and rather LARGE pike.
The river & footpath to explore miles of the Broads is approx. 500mtrs from The Old Post Office. Turn left at the footpath sign just inside the boatyard entrance. There is no limit to how far you can walk alongside the river. Beccles market town is approx. 70 minutes walk. The green banked Village staithe, just after the disused railway bridge, also on this footpath, is an ideal spot to fish for the day.
We believe the river Waveney between Geldeston & Beccles, is one of the prettiest stretches of waterway on the Broads and it's so peaceful (the low bridge at Beccles restricts larger boats entering this section of the river). Whether you are walking, canoeing, boating or cycling, just enjoy the calm waters & the stunning views.
"BE HAPPY" BEACH HUT"

The Old Post Office is detached, spacious and we have tried to keep the homely family feel & have gone over and above to ensure everything you should need is provided. Towels, linen, heating & electricity are all included.
There will be a welcome basket awaiting your arrival.
The lounge is a good size & feels very cosy, offering a comfy 4 seater sofa, 2 seater sofa and single chair, TV & free Wifi and a wood burner, especially relaxing on cold winter evenings (fire guard provided). A starter box of logs & kindling is included. Additional logs and kindling are available to purchase at cost, honesty box.
The kitchen offers everything you would expect at home, with ample equipment for 6 + including dishwasher (& tabs) washing machine, double oven, microwave, ample crockery & glasses, etc. etc., and a 6 seater family table. A high chair is also available. The small annex, attached to the kitchen, houses plenty of picnic ware, cool box.. There are some extra folding chairs in the outside store, you are welcome to use those for fishing or take them on the beach.
The dining/family room has a large family table, 6 – 8 places, ideal for a family gathering/social/playing games/meals. There are plenty of family games, puzzles, books, CD's & DVD's. Two sofas for chilling or perhaps listening to music on the CD/Radio/iPod docking station. Plus there is a DVD linked TV. So the kids can watch DVD's in this room & you can watch Mastermind in the lounge !!!
We have tried to reflect the Norfolk Broads area in the cottage and also combine the cottage's heritage as a former village shop & post office.
There is a small children's room set up as a shop & toy post office, this room has been a particular success with our younger visitors & parents alike (when the children are happy etc.,) The children love the scales/till/pretend money/shopping trolley, swiping their Club Card !! Postman Pat features heavily in this room, along with DVD's books & games (other non-delivery person related toys are available!!) Alternatively this room has amply storage for coats. There is also a small children's Cafe set up in the courtyard.

Extra bike storage is available on request. An undercover seating area with wood burner, ideal for cosy nights ‘out’. There is also an outside toilet.
Parking
You can park in the drive, courtyard or directly outside the cottage.
Geldeston Village
The Village is blessed with 2 pubs. “The Locks Inn” (Limited winter opening hours) *** This place is pretty unique & it’s hard to explain the attraction unless you visit for yourself, set out on the marshes, with no mains electric, candle lit, you could drive, but if you are staying at the OPO we would recommend walking, once you are there the place is infectious & time seems to escape you as you get embroiled in the atmosphere and the music, sit on the lawn or grab a bench on Sundays/Bank holidays and enjoy traditional folk songs & tales, jazz or jam sessions.
Advice : Take one of the torches from the cottage, just in case you stay later than intended, there are no street lights in the Village. *** The Locks Inn was purchased on 21st Oct 2020 by the community, its best to check Opening hours before visiting, especially this winter, although the walk is always worth while.
The Wherry Inn (Adnams Brewery) www.thewherryinn.co.uk
A well attended village pub, with good quality food, quiz & themed food evenings. The Wherry Inn is only stumbling distance from the cottage. This building also dates back to the days of the Dowson Brewery and was an integral asset to the brewery, this being where the more influential employees of the brewery frequented.
In those days there was another pub in the Village “The Ale House” where only ale/beer was sold for the workers!! So they hopefully returned “Sober” to work the next day !! This has long since been a private home, you will pass it on your way to the river footpath.
The Old Post Office itself was built around 1828 and formed part of the Dowson brewery, as home to the Master Brewer. When the brewery closed in 1858 the cottage became a small village shop and later a sub Post office and family home.
We then developed the cottage into a holiday home in 2013. We have been pleased with the comments left by a good cross section of guests, from couples to family groups with children, the cottage appears to suit everyone,

Everything was ideal. The property was well proportioned and as described. A lot of thought gone into creating a fabulous home from home and our children loved the collection of toys and play areas. The advanced notice of the village fete on the day of our arrival was wonderful as we were able to participate. Great fun.
The use of a beach hut was also superb and provided an ideal location and provision for beach days.
Wonderful base to explore the coast and the local attractions of Africa Alive, Wroxham Barns and Beccles Lido. Highly recommend.

Clean, well equipped house with stunning garden in the charming village of Geldeston. Very family friendly. We enjoyed Three Rivers paddle boarding and kayaking, The Locks Inn and Beccles Lido which are all nearby. The beach hut was a gorgeous, little slice of heaven on Pakefield beach. Thank you to our host.

We had a great short break in this property. It is spacious, comfortable and very well fitted out. Sue left us some lovely welcome gifts including wine and biscuits. The Old Post Office is in a good location for exploring Suffolk and Norfolk and it was spotlessly clean. Thank you Sue!

On our arrival there were some goodies for us which was a nice surprise.
I'm a bit of a minimalist but I know for most people it would be the perfect home from home, with a cosy cottage feel.
It has all you need for your stay and the garage is a great storage area for bikes or canoes/kayaks.
The beach hut was also very well equipped.
It's a great location for access to waterways and 2 good pubs and not too far to drive to the local amenities in Beccles.
We also had a great day in Cambridge, which is only an hour and a half away.
All in all it was perfect for our needs.

This is a delightful family -friendly place to stay. It is in a good location for exploring the River Waveney, the Broads and places along the Suffolk Coast.
The Old Post Office is spacious with a kitchen, sitting- room, and large dining room. Upstairs there are three bedrooms. Weather permitting, you can sit out in the plant-filled courtyard.
The Wherry pub is just a stone's throw away and has good meals.

We (2 adults, one 4 year old and a baby) stayed at the Old Post Office for 4 days in early October. Our 4 year old absolutely loved the toys available and mini shop/post office and we also enjoyed the selection of board games while at the house.
The house is very well kept and well equipped, with plentiful kitchen supplies, towels, blankets and heaters which was really helpful and meant we didn’t have to pack the contents of our own house.
We used the beach hut for one day and it was also very well maintained and had lots of equipment, while being cosy and clean.
We really enjoyed our break and I found the host extremely helpful and quick to respond to the questions we had during our visit. The village was very quiet and pretty and we found the children’s playground which was a decent size too.
We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it.

Saw several local sites Africa Alive, Somerleyton Hall, Wroxham Petting Farm,Time and Tide, and several days at Pakefield beach in the Happy Hut. Enjoyed eating at Royal Oak Pizzeria, Twyfords, and Wherry Inn. Wonderful for our family of 4 adults and 2 grandchildren.

The Old Post Office is a lovely period home with lovely touches that make it feel welcoming and comfy.
The way some of the rooms are very child centric is a great addition. The mini post office shop, alfresco cafe and play room/bedroom were a massive hit with our 4 year old who is a huge fan of postman pat.
Local area is very quiet most evenings, although the local pub does have love music it's not really any bother, just wish I could've joined in but family comes first!
The other local pub by the water The Lock Inn is great, but be prepared for a long walk if you decide to wander down!
Overall we loved the place and would consider going back if we holiday in that area of Norfolk/ Suffolk again.
Thanks Sue!

Delightful cottage that would suit any combination of holiday makers. We stayed as a couple and had an amazing time. Quiet, but really well located for enjoying the Suffolk coast and many other areas. We did horse riding, golf and a Jet Adventures boat trip to see seals at Scoby - this area has something for everyone!
Sue was so kind and helpful and left a much-enjoyed welcome basket. Thank you x

What a lovely house, it was perfect size for us, as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children, 6 and 11 years old)
Having the extra dining room made the house so spacious. The beds were very comfortable and the house had everything we needed and more.
The log burning stove was well throughout the week.
The welcome pack was so thoughtful and delicious.
The house was in a great area, lovely walks from the house to the river and Church and pub!!
But also all our activities were about 30 minutes away. We went to Africa Alive zoo which was great.
The beach hut was an amazing added bonus, it was a short drive away. We were so lucky with the weather and had a great day at the beach.
Communication with the owner was fabulous, Sue was really friendly and quick to reply to any questions and messages we had before the holiday.
A superb holiday, really recommend it.

An excellent and tastefully decorated property, spotlessly clean and very well equipped So many little things thought of that made our stay even better. Magical garden that was lovely to sit in , especially at night with all the pretty lights. Would highly recommend for friends or family. The Old Post House is on a road but very safe and amazingly quiet

The old post office is a pleasant cottage with lovely outdoor space in a lovely quiet village. We enjoyed eating at the very convenient pub on two nights, food was lovely. Can highly recommend getting the little ferry boat to/from Beccles, beautiful stretch of the broads.

Very nice well equipped cottage . Particularly lovely for children with lots of toys, games and books.
Lovely outside courtyard for dining when weather is kind.
Two local pubs, one right next door and a super community pub within walking distance . Nice walks along the river bank. As a family we were all catered for .
Host supplied very generous welcome basket 😀

My family and I had a great stay at Sue's property in Geldeston. The home was large enough for everyone to have their own space, yet managed to feel cozy and intimate at the same time. The host's left a generous welcome basket and included so many thoughtful touches to their rental that made it feel like our home away from home. We enjoyed visiting the Wherry Inn and Locks Community Pub - both within walking distance. We also had a great afternoon at the Pitch and Paddle (a kayak rental place, also a short walk from the property). We had an electric car with us during the stay and Sue was so accommodating to allow us to charge our vehicle at the property via the granny lead that was made available right by the parking area. The interior and exterior of the house were so charming, we really enjoyed sitting outside in the beautiful sitting area, taking in the well-manicured and vibrant plants and flowers. We would highly recommend Sue's place for any family or group of friends looking to enjoy a slice of Suffolk life!

Great property, much larger than I imagined. Very homely and welcoming. Lovely welcome basket when we arrived. Plenty of room for the 4 of us. Its location to near river activities was great not to mention the pub literally on the door step!!

We had such a great time here last summer that we decided to come back again this year. Fantastic weather again for the whole two weeks really helped and the property is central to so many places in Norfolk and Suffolk.
The property itself is fantastic, and really geared up for families in particular. Sue is an excellent host and nothing is too much trouble. Communication was great and the welcome pack/hamper is a lovely touch when we first arrived - particularly the wine!
Locally I would recommend visiting the lido at Beccles, particularly with children, the beach-hut (with a walk to Lowestoft Beach), as well as Cromer, Thorpeness, Great Yarmouth, and Horning (for the paddle steamer/restaurants). The children also loved Bewilderwood (again!) and Africa Alive.
I would definitely recommend The Old Post Office for anyone wanting a break or holiday in this area.

Fantastic Norfolk Break
We thoroughly enjoyed our break in Norfolk, which was definitely made by staying in The Old Post Office. Sue had thought of everything that might be needed, and there were so many lovely touches throughout. Our boys loved all the toys to play with, especially the post office and the outside play cafe! We too loved the garden with all its little nooks and quirky treasures! The beds were very comfy too! Whilst we were there, I needed to speak to Sue, and she responded quickly and promptly, and even came out to see us. A really lovely lady.
We had a gorgeous meal at The Wherry Inn. Would highly recommend it.
All in all, we loved Norfolk and the surrounding areas, but mostly we loved The Old Post Office! We will definitely return! Thanks Sue. xx
