This single-family mill home is located in West Columbia's New Brookland Historic District - an up and coming pocket neighborhood just over the river from downtown Columbia with single-family homes and duplexes dating from the early 1900s. Many of these homes have been owned for generations and some show signs of wear and their age. With older historically lower income neighborhoods like this, you will see visible deferred maintenance and sometimes yards and front porches with a collection of random objects, some may call it hoarding. This neighborhood is completely safe despite some of the decrepit homes and with the new $40 million dollar mixed-use development like Brookland and the ongoing State Street revitalization, this area is only getting better and better!
My husband David and I used to live on this street and have always wanted to make our way back. The proximity to downtown Columbia and the hopping Vista area can't be beat. Plus, are are within a few minutes walk to West Columbia's Riverwalk!
5 minutes walk to Cafe Strudel & our favorite Old Mill Antique Mall & Plant Store
6 minutes walk to West Columbia Riverfront Park & Amphitheater
6 minute walk to brand new Asian fusion restaurant Palate on State Street
6 minute walk to Black Rooster - a new restaurant with a rooftop bar overlooking the river and downtown Columbia
8 minute walk to Terra - one of our favorite restaurants!
9 minute walk to Al's Upstairs Italian Restaurant with great views of the river and downtown Columbia
10 minute walk or 3 minute drive to Bi-Lo Grocery Store
12 minute walk or 3 minute drive to CVS Pharmacy
3 minutes drive to Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts
4 minute drive to Publix Super Market
5 minutes drive to the heart of USC's campus
5 minutes drive to the Koger Center, Columbia's Metropolitan Convention Center and Colonial Life Arena
7 minutes drive to Riverbanks Zoo & Botanical Gardens
8 minutes drive to Williams Brice Stadium / USC Football
20 minutes drive to the Fort Jackson Visitors Center
Uber and Lyft are the best options for getting around without your vehicle. Otherwise, there are options for groceries and dining within walking distance to the house.
There is a separate rental unit in the back yard that has a long-term tenant. Therefore, you may see another individual enter and exit the gate to the left of the front of the house during your stay. The entries and yard spaces are completely separate as is parking. Please respect each other's privacy during your stay.

We had the opportunity to go the The Masters Golf Tournament, but found out within a couple of weeks of the event. When we looked for somewhere near the course to stay, options were extremely limited. So, we expanded our search to West Columbia. This house sounded perfect. Quiet neighborhood, cute place with things to do after the tournament at night. It was a little over an hour away from Augusta, but it was an uncomplicated route. Communicating with Wendy was great. She let us know that they needed to clean a piece of furniture so we should be aware that it might still be damp when we arrived. We appreciated that they took care of it before we got there. Staying in a clean place is really important to us.
The neighborhood is a bit of a mix with some houses tended to and some not so much. It looks like the area is on the verge of a major redevelopment. At night, the area is wonderfully quiet. But there are places within walking distance to check out. We loved to finish our day with food and drink from Savage Craft Ale Works. Great drinks and delicious food in a converted fire and police station.
The house itself is very cute and decorated nicely, but it is on the older side. It is creaky and showing its age, but it is a great place to stay. We had plenty of room and thought it was perfect for our needs. The one weird thing that I told Wendy was that the lights flickered and sometimes temporarily went off and came back on. It was weird and happened throughout our stay.

My family and I enjoyed our stay. It was a perfect location, in town for my daughter’s graduation at USC. The house has so much character and I love the decorating. The back deck was awesome to have our morning coffee. We were very comfortable and will definitely rent there again. We had a couple minor items that needed to be fixed in the house but they were quick to respond to our requests.

We needed somewhere close to the U of SC campus to move our son in and wanted a house rather than a hotel. Hotels available were 15+ minutes away or very expensive. The house was 6 minutes from our son’s residence hall and big enough for 4 of us. The neighborhood is run down and the house is old but for what we needed, that didn’t matter. The house was clean and charming. Perfect for the 3 days we needed it!

Very cozy and comfortable home. Owners are very easy to communicate with as well as accommodating. I had no bad experiences with this property. Arrived to a clean home and check in process was easy. Location was nice with plenty of restaurants and shopping close by. Parks nearby. I could go on and on. Just have nothing negative to say at all. I travel for business and was there for a month. I rent A LOT of properties throughout the year in many different states. Usually can list off a few things that would have made my stays more convenient or accommodating but not with this one. Short of stocking the kitchen with food, the owners had this home with just about everything you could want or need. Very pleased with the property and the owners. Would recommend this place to anyone staying in the area.
