Our Jungalow Cottage is 780 square feet and overlooks breathtaking views of Haleakala Ranch and west Maui.
This area of Hawaii is special and unique. It is a very different experience, one of the mountain.
We are on 2.5 acres and nestled upon the slopes of Haleakala (meaning house of the sun in Hawaiian).
The summit of Haleakala is at 10,023 ft and is a must see while on Maui. We are at approximately
3000 ft and surrounded by cattle ranches and forrest.
Hiking and mountain biking trails are near by. Wild pheasant, deer, pigs and Pueo (hawaiian owl) are often seen.
This is a very special place on Maui and only really described by being here in person.
Our guests are welcome to use the swimming pool, hot tub and dry sauna at will according to our house rules. Please note that use of the pool, hot tub and dry sauna are private if reserved via our shared calendar app.

The Jungalow was an amazing spot to begin our Hawaiian vacation. It was the perfect spot to explore upcountry and East Maui. We loved being only an hour drive to sunrise and a good spot to begin Road to Hana as well. So much adventure to explore around here. We enjoyed dinner at Mama’s one night (what a treat), but loved coming back to the Jungalo to rest our tired legs the other nights. A good soak in the hot tub is the perfect end to day whether watching the sunset or the stars twinkle. Loved all the suggestions from Dawn — the Poke from the grocery store in Pukalani was amazing — too many choices and all delicious. We grilled some local, aged grass fed strip steaks on our lanai that we purchased down the road at the general store in Makawao. Delicious! All of the little touches here were amazing — fresh lemons and limes from the garden, little umbrella’s and tiki glasses for your cocktails, fresh flowers everywhere, twinkle lights on the umbrellas, I could go on and on. . . Perfection!

We had a great stay at the Jungalow in Makawao. Dawn was extremely accommodating and personable. We enjoyed listening to the sounds of birds and nature surrounding this unique property. We also loved the town and people.
The only comment I would add is that the bathroom is downstairs so if you have any sense of urgency in the middle of the night or have difficulty with stairs you may want to reconsider. Other than that it was just what we needed to end our 10 day trip to Maui.

Lovely comfortable, upcountry property perfect for experiencing Maui away from the hoards of the resort areas! Perfectly situated for exploring the fun towns of Makawao and Paia, the beautiful Hookipa and Baldwin beaches, the road to Hana, and Haleakala. But only an hour’s plus drive to South and West Maui. Fun windy drive to the property!
We loved the bright decor, light filled spacious unit and the wonderful views. The pool was a bit cool for us because of the cooler March temperatures, but really enjoyed the spacious hot tub. (The teeniest drawbacks were the bathroom being downstairs and the bed not being against the wall.)

Wow.. what a breathtaking property and cottage!! The jungalow was one of the cleanest and most beautiful properties I have ever seen! We blew off previously made plans in the area just to stay on the property and enjoy the amenities longer. The gardens, pool, hot tub, and sauna were amazing. The views from all windows but especially from bed were priceless. The owner gave excellent communication. We are already dreaming about our next trip to Maui and decided the Jungalow was so relaxing and beautiful we would stay much longer and not make any other plans while there ☺️ thank you for a perfect stay with wonderful memories that will last for the rest of our lives!! Thank you Dave and Dawn!!

The property was more beautiful than the pictures show. It was the perfect way to experience Upcountry in Maui. Very comfortable bed, lots of space, outdoor space had tremendous views from every direction. Host greeted us on arrival but otherwise gave us complete privacy…we never saw another person. The pool, hot tub, and sauna were added luxuries. This property is a special place.

Wonderful place on the side of Haleakala on Maui. Views towards the north Maui were beautiful. Beautiful ride up the side of the mountain and once you get here, so relaxing, hot tub and pool area were amazing. Mahalo.

My husband and I booked this property for its setting. We wanted a place that was quiet so we could get away from our busy lives and have some time to connect. It has a gorgeous view of the mountains and the ocean on both sides of the island. The property is beautifully landscaped with tropical vegetation. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub. Clean, comfortable, roomy for just the two of us.
The road to the property winds up a mountain, but we didn’t have any problems finding it per the hosts instructions, even arriving in the dark.
Was exactly what we wanted and expected. Felt like we had the place all to ourselves.
Thank you!

Very special place. You really feel a part of Maui rather than a tourist. The view is amazing.
It is a bit cooler up island than down at the beach, maybe 5-10 degrees cooler than the beach.
I really enjoyed the outdoor shower with a view.
Very private and quiet. Very responsive host and check in/out could not have been easier.

This ohana has an amazing view and everything you might need for a sweet stay, from decks to a tuck away loft for viewing your favorite shows. It was very comfortable and well thought out.

Friendly owner greeted us to the property. I wouldn’t advise trying to find the property in the dark, very tricky driveway/road to the house. Beautiful lush surroundings with a distant view to the ocean and valley. Very quiet and peaceful.
The lodging itself is a little quirky with bedroom located on the top floor where the best view is. No bathroom on the top floor. Comfortable bed and bed linens, no headboard for sitting up in bed. The kitchen is well equipped for long stays and cooking.

Dream location. The photos in the listing are very nice but being there was special in so many unexpected ways. Constant new discoveries of beauty in sight and sound. The amenities were everything we needed. Dave and Dawn were the most interesting and coolest hosts. Never intrusive but there if you needed them. They have created a sanctuary that visitors will respect, enjoy immensely and remember long after they leave.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The sunset views were breathtaking, the yard is full of color and birds. The bed and couch are very comfortable. We enjoyed the hot tub on a foggy night- the ambiance was very cool. Our host is very kind and responsive.

We loved our stay in the Jungalow and did not want to leave. The views are spectacular. You can see the entire valley, the north shore, the south shore and the West Maui Mountains all at once. The sunsets were jaw dropping. They are different when you see them from 3000 feet up on the side of Haleakala. We used the pool, the hot tub and the sauna a lot. It is a real pool that you can swim laps in. And the hot tub is actually hot, as is the sauna. It was our private spa to use whenever we wanted. I swam every morning and evening. The grounds are covered in gardens and there are countless birds. You do not hear or see any neighbors. It cools off at night to an ideal sleeping temperature. The jungalow is well furnished and has everything you need for 2 people. Staying up country is the best and unlike anything else in Maui. Would 100% come here again.

Nestled on the side of the mountain, the views from every room are amazing. The bed and pillows are so fluffy and comfortable, and when you wake-up, you can just gaze out of the window from bed.
The pool is refreshing, the hot tub is relaxing, and the sauna is detoxifying.

Our stay in the upcountry Jungalow was amazing. Our hosts, David and Dawn were very responsive and were super helpful with all of our needs. The views at this property makes you want to stay and never leave. It is only a short drive from downtown Makawao, which has great shops and restaurants and very close to Paia as well. We will be staying here again on our next visit!

Everything as advertised, including the reviews. My wife walked through the door and immediately said “cancel all plans for our stay, we’re not leaving this place.” Beautiful views and the quietude was just what we were looking for in getting away from the busy life, kids and dogs for a quick getaway.

The jungalow is up a winding road to a magnificent view of the old volcano and the ocean. Don’t be intimidated by the road. It’s only 8 minutes to the best bakery and sweet town and a perfect location to explore the Road to Hana, the north shore and Haleakala summit. Upcountry is peaceful and enchanting and the road is beautiful with so many types of foliage!
Dave and Dawn are excellent hosts and we were even given fresh eggs, avocado and I picked my own lemons and limes.
Loved our stay.

I couldn’t be more pleased with the location of this property. It sits on the west side of Haleakala with a 3000 foot elevated sunset view of green rolling hillside pastureland, the island’s central valley, West Mountain, Kahului and both North and South Pacific shores. The road used to access the “Jungalow” is several miles uphill from Makawao on a small winding road with very little traffic. Makawao is a very special little town with some of the most unique shops on the island. Its history is that of ranching and farming and still exhibits that culture. It is very close (by mainland standards) to many good restaurants, grocery stores, and natural sites.
The property itself is a few hundred yards (and out of site) from the main road and is primarily composed of two rental properties along with the owner’s home. There are several shared facilities including trails, pool, hot tub, sauna, and parking. Although the Jungalow is detached from the others, there was occasionally foot traffic and activity nearby. Privacy was generally helped by a privacy hedge out the west-facing window.
This cottage was a very nice blend of classic construction (maybe timber?) with modern updated features. This included new appliances, lighting, flooring, cabinetry, plumbing, handrails, window treatments, bedding and a gas barbeque pit. The owners have obviously spent some thought and time upgrading, decorating and maintaining the facilities. It was already stocked with many items I thought I needed to bring. All in all, it was very comfortable, stylish and functional with stunning views. And the cats made me feel right at home. It is hard to list any negatives for this rental. There are only a couple of items to note. The TV loft, although comfortable when you get there and the flat screen is very good, the clearance at the top of the stairs is only around 4 and a half feet (that’s a guess) making it a bit awkward to enter and exit if you’re, say, 6 foot or taller. And they might want to plane the sticky door on the second level. It was very difficult to open.

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely cottage in Maui's upcountry. The views of the valley are amazing, and the cottage contained all we needed to prepare our own meals. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again.

David welcomed us upon arrival and offered immediate help should we need it. The place looks exactly as it is presented on VRBO and offers stunning views. The kitchen is well equipped and the pool looks beautiful although we didn’t use it. The one suggestion I could offer is to let travelers know in the accommodation description that the master bed is on a different floor from the only bathroom.

After spending 5 nights along Kaanapali Beach and 2 nights in Hana, we capped it off with 2 nights UpCountry in the Jungalow. We wished we could have stayed longer! Loved the interior design, the views were awesome (day and at night) and the privacy was excellent even with the other property onsite. The actual property is better than the great pictures on the site. It was easy booking the hot tub/pool for some private time after a day of sightseeing. The Jungalow is a charming place to stay with all the right personal touches that earn this VRBO property the 5 stars it deserves. You won't be disappointed staying here!

What a truly relaxing experience. Sit by a pool on the side of one volcano while looking across at another one. I mean, come on! Such gracious hosts and what a lovely property. Start the day greeted by the cool and warm colors of the sun rising behind you upon the isthmus below. Then while away your day watching the assortment of clouds or ao drift by. Top it off with a vibrant sunset in the hot tub. Doesn’t get more relaxing than this. Mahalo Dawn and David!

I told them upon leaving that I don't think I could ever return to Maui without staying here again. This was the absolute PERFECT way to kickstart me time on the island. The views, the birds, the smells, the special touches — beyond my expectations. They had a beautiful bouquet of protea, fresh picked limes/avocados, and fresh eggs from the property awaiting me when I walked in. It was just me and the owners for my days, and it was rare that we even bumped into each other, but totally lovely to chat when we did. So much information and insights about how to best enjoy the property and time on Maui. Sharing the pool/sauna area via the app was a breeze. I am a cold swimmer, so the cool pool and ability to do hot/cold plunges was so helpful after a travel day and then soreness from hiking. Rainbows, sunsets, proximity to upcountry things / Makawao and overall GREAT VIBES all made this an exceptional stay.

Words can describe how beautiful this property is! Between the view from the room, the unique foliage on the grounds and the pool area I was blown away! This is a great place for a couple to explore upcountry, we found a lot to do in the area! The property was clean and in great condition. I would stay here again!

Serenity
We had an unbelievable time celebrating our 20 year wedding anniversary at this beautiful property. The views were amazing. We woke up one morning to a full rainbow that seemed to land right on the hill behind the house. The song birds seemed to surround you every morning. The kitchen was well appointed with everything we would need. The bedroom and loft were so comfortable and private. The hot tub and pool were easy to reserve and it felt like they were our own.
David was a pleasure to work with and was very responsive to questions I had. We had a private chef, who he recommended, cook us dinner at the property one night. I highly recommend this experience. The food was out of this world and the views from the upper deck were amazing.
We were looking for a private, quiet place to spend our anniversary and this place did not disappoint. We will definitely be back when we return to Maui.
