*** Why Guardea?***
Guardea is an Italian town of 1,836 inhabitants in the province of Terni, located between the Orvieto and Amerino areas. The town is also located on the border with the Lazio region of the province of Viterbo. The peculiarity of the name is due, with few doubts, to the singular morphology of the territory, which constituted an efficient watchtower, towering above the teverina valley - above all from the ancient hill town of the town, today called "Guardea vecchia". The name "Guardea" could derive from the German wald (forest) or the French garde (surveillance site). The village is currently located at the foot of two hills: Guardea Vecchia and il Poggio, where the medieval castle stands.
In the municipality there is also part of the valley of the badlands, which extend up to the Viterbo tuscia in the municipality of Bagnoregio.
In the territory of Madonna del Porto (municipality of Guardea) there is the entrance to the Natural Oasis of Lake Alviano as well as a large part of the lake itself, which also extends to the municipalities of Alviano, and Civitella d'Agliano.

Church of Saints Pietro and Cesareo, a parish built in the early decades of the 1700s on the site, then called Piano Antico, where there was an ancient rural church dedicated to S. Cecilia.
Fortified village of Guardea Vecchia, located at an altitude of 572 m s. l.m., extends over an area of about 8000 m² with a wall perimeter preserved in the elevation for about 1/3. Dating from the 9th century., is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and panoramic places in the whole region and from the top of the hill you can embrace the Teverina to the south-west and the chain of mountains that surround the Cocciano valley to the north-east.
Castello del poggio, castle founded as an imperial fief on a pre-existing Byzantine tower.
Hermitage of Sant'Illuminata, also called "cave of San Francesco", built in 1037 AD and residence of the saint.
Church of Santa Lucia, completed at the end of the nineteenth century, containing a fresco by the Perugian painter Domenico Bruschi.

The film Dellamorte Dellamore, directed by Michele Soavi, with Rupert Everett and Anna Falchi was entirely shot in Guardea.
