About this villa rental
Incredibly spacious both inside and out and exceptionally well equipped, Villa Metapothia is the perfect holiday villa for large parties or extremely spacious for families. The lovely 9m x 6m pool, with integrated jacuzzi bench seating and shallow children's pool is surrounded by plenty of sunbeds and parasols of such a generous size that there's space for all. For those who'd also like a little 'time out', each of the 6 en suite, air conditioned bedroom (except for one which has a small sitting area nearby) has its own private balcony furnished with rattan furniture. There's also a lovely 'chill out' area under a pergola in the garden.
Did we also mention the magnificent views encompassing Crete’s White Mountains and the blue sea of Souda Bay glistening down a green and wooded valley.....?
Location Gavalohori
The Villa sits on a quiet hillside at the end of a lane that winds gently up the 130 metres from the village past a number of neighbouring houses, originally the width of 2 passing donkeys, it has now been widened to accommodate a normal saloon car.
Amongst the village streets in Gavalohori you'll find 3 excellent tavernas, a bakery and a couple of mini markets, one of which offers a delivery service by quad bike. It's also useful to know, for larger groups, that one of the village tavernas offers a great take away service and another in nearby Almyrida will deliver. Just a few minutes drive away, this small and low key resort offers a choice of tavernas strung around the crescent of soft sand where shallow waters lap onto the shoreline. There is also a selection of shops as well as a few cafes and bars.
The White Mountains beg to be explored and Chania and Rethymnon are both within an easy drive.

Stayed here 10 years ago and always knew we’d come back. This villa has everything. Six en-suite bedrooms. A huge pool. Amazing views and you can walk to great tavernas and shops. It’s immaculate and very well equipped. Lots of different areas to sit, eat, lounge. You can have privacy if you want it or great communal living. Highly recommended.
The keys are a bit tricky to get the hang of. Maybe be label or number them better? But that is a very small thing. That villa is perfect. Many thanks to Diana, Yiannis and your girls x

Our two families spent very relaxing nine days at Villa Metapothia in the lovely village of Gavalohori. The Villa was everything it promised to be - we wanted for nothing.
The Villa was very tidy and Eleni the housekeeper left wonderfully baked goodies after each clean. The pool and garden area is big enough for 12 people with multiple areas for seating all together. The kitchen had every utensil imaginable, which made cooking so easy and enjoyable!
We had two medium sized cars which enabled us to drive up the very narrow access road. Anything bigger and we would’ve had to park further down.
The village of Gavalohori is a hidden gem! Away from the touristy coast - it offers two mini markets which are well stocked (although a bit expensive) and the one behind the Kafeoni “ Gavalohori "O Bakalogatos ”sells local produce and ice creams. The “ Elpida- Traditional Cafeneon- Gavalohori” is a Café style eatery, right in the town centre and is popular with locals as well as visitors to the family. The owner speaks English well and they catered for gluten intolerance. The taverna Arismari was a real find! Set behind in the town square by a big tree with a small well - it was my favourite place!
Also in the small market square is a pottery place, selling artwork (pottery, paintings, prints, jewellery etc.) from various artists from the area.
To sum up - we would definitely recommend the Villa Metapothia and are already thinking of returning sometime soon.

We love it
The five children spent hours in the pool while we looked on from the comfort of the shade on the balcony. The wide view from the mountains to the sea is incredible. This was a return visit for a special family occasion, I can't think of anywhere that would have been better.
