The house is a 19th century farmhouse, updated with current design, and plenty of room. The homeowners are gracious, considerate, thoughtful--a joy to work with. Location is a walk or easy bike ride to the country store, Brewster General, to Brewster Scoop ice cream, or to Breakwater Beach. A longer but still easy bike ride (all on sidewalks!) to Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters and Hopkins House Bakery, and access to the Cape Cod Rail Trail. We could ride our bikes to swim at the freshwater Pleasant Lake on CCRT.

Nice old girl, needs some love
The location in Brewster is perfect to all things on the Cape. Walking to ice cream a major bonus.
There is a rodent problem for sure like not afraid of humans. The house has AC only by window units in three of the four bedrooms. Very little air movement even with windows open. The older showers do not drain well at all, one took hours to empty.
Beds slept well, accommodations were fine for a group of 8 family, as long as you are familiar and used to an old house with charm.

Great Thanksgiving Weekend !
We had a great time enjoying Thanksgiving at this historic house.
The kitchen was equipped with a new appliances which we put to good use. (enjoyed cooking with daughters but next time recommend ordering thanksgiving feast from Spinnakers ). Loved the dining room set up, beautifully decorated and plenty of wine glasses, serving dishes available. Very cozy living room, fireplace was awesome. The fire pit area outside was also a fun spot. Nice large yard in the back for our dog to run around and an outdoor eating area that we unfortunately did not use due to weather.
Brewster-by-the-Sea was in a perfect location for us. We enjoyed walking our dog down to Breakwater beach every morning. Walking/running trails close by, along with the rail trail for biking. A lot of restaurants were closed for the holiday(re-opened on Sat) but we were able to enjoy the Woodshed and Spinnakers for a drink (both walking distance). Loved having the Brewster general store close by. We ordered pastries/pies from Eat Cake for Breakfast and enjoyed coffee at the Snowy Owl.
Terence was great with providing us all the info for a very comfortable stay. Lots of restaurant recommendations and things to do. Check in / Check out very easy. Overall a wonderful family weekend with our grown daughters and friends.
Thanks again for a wonderful stay,
Marilou Hunt

Great house and the host was very responsive and helpful. It is centrally located with great nearby stores and restaurants. Also enjoyed the rail trail with our dog. Great for day trips to P Town or elsewhere. Would definitely stay again!

Charming and quaint
We had a great experience over Labor Day weekend! We are a family of 4 and brought out golden retriever puppy (who was perfect btw). Terrence communicated well with us throughout our stay when necessary, the backyard is perfect and if you have older kids or multiple couples sharing the home, there is definitely space and privacy. We highly recommend it and look forward to booking again! 💕

Summer Getaway
This house has an awesome location! It is in walking distance to restaurants and ice cream. Easy to get places. The house was a little small for our lifestyle but gave that classic cape cod feel. It is on a busy road but not too loud. The host Terrence was very nice and helpful. Would recommend.

Unfortunately unpleased
We found what we thought was going to be our yearly rental in Brewster. After seeing the pictures of this house online, we booked immediately and began to follow the profile on Instagram in anticipation of our trip. We have been traveling to the Cape for the last 5 years, rented some good houses and some not so good. We felt a little deceived when we arrived @brewsterhome_bythesea. The exterior of the home has chipping paint and overgrown bushes. When we entered, we realized that the home only had 3 window A/C units, one located bed level in the upstairs bedroom, not ideal. We also realized that parts of the home had not been cleaned from the previous renters. Some of the larger items were, floors had not been swept/vacuumed or mopped, master bedroom bathroom had mold on the shower floor and mold/rust combo on the shower curtain. I ran out to the local hardware store to purchase cleaning supplies so that we would feel comfortable. The other issue is that we found mice poop in the pantry and we could hear rodents running through the master bedroom/bathroom floors and walls.
These issues are not the biggest deal, however, when we considered how much we paid to stay at this home compared to others we have stayed in for less, we became irritated. I realize that these items can happen anywhere but for the money, this home just isn't worth it. We did communicate with the owner about our concerns and were compensated a small amount off of the cleaning fee. Let me remind you that we swept/vacuumed, Swiffered the entire home, purchased a new shower curtain and cleaned the master bathroom. The extremely small amount was a very small percentage of the total cost of this home.
In my opinion, the expectations were not correctly portrayed through Vrbo/social media. We are absolutely good with staying in an older home but it certainly needs to be kept up, especially for the prices they are charging and what they are promising their guests.

Beautifully Appointed, Brilliantly Located
We just returned from a 4 week stay at this beautiful home, and will cherish our memories. The house is wonderfully and tastefully decorated (probably the most tasteful decor of any house we have rented on the Cape). Terrance was a terrific host: responsive, welcoming, proactive. You truly cannot beat the location-- my 12 and 15 year olds were able to walk or bike to the beach the Brewster Scoop for ice cream, the General Store for penny candy, etc. Easy walk to the delicious Brewster Fish House, Spinnaker, and Apt restaurants, and just a short drive to many other eateries, shops and sights. Breakwater Beach-- which we had not previously visited-- is now one of our absolute favorites. That said the house also has easy access to all Brewster, Dennis, and Orleans beaches. We had three generations staying, and the house worked for everyone: from my 80 year old mother in law to my teen and tween. Thank you for a marvelous stay Terrance-- and our best wishes for your upcoming wedding!
