At Elusive Daydream, the beach permeates every moment! This Cape Hatteras home is perched directly on one of the best beaches for surfing, fishing, and swimming on Hatteras Island, with the famed Cape Hatteras Lighthouse less than a mile away. You can even see the lighthouse from the top floor, and watch the light sweep across the ocean at night as you listen to the waves crash from your comfortable living room or bedroom.
The views here are spectacular. If you bring your binoculars, you can see the wild waves of The Point. You can also catch regular glimpses of dolphins swimming just offshore and seabirds diving for fish.
The oceanfront great room on the top floor has beautiful tongue-and-groove cedar accents, comfortable furnishings, flat screen TV with Roku and Spectrum cable, a gas fireplace, and decks with outstanding views. Sweet dreams await in the oceanfront primary bedroom on this level, which includes an attached bathroom with a jetted bathtub. You can watch the sun rise up out of the ocean without getting out of your queen bed, but you might want to sneak out through a sliding door to the attached deck to get the full effect of the magnificent sunrise. Head up to the furnished, third-level tower to watch the sun set into the sound. This is also a great place to play games and do puzzles, surrounded by water views everywhere you look.
On the first level, there's an oceanfront queen bedroom with an en suite bathroom and direct access to a deck overlooking the ocean. The second queen bedroom on this level also has access to the deck. This room shares a hallway bathroom with the third bedroom on this floor, which has two twin beds and a slider to its own private deck. Sit down to eat indoors in the dining area adjacent to the well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar, or head outside to the picnic table on the deck next to the kitchen.
The oceanfront hot tub will help melt your cares away.
You'll have a pool table, a foosball table, and a ping-pong table in the garage for rainy day fun, as well as outdoor shower and high-speed internet.
You will be required to sign an additional lease agreement upon making a booking, which will be sent to your email. You will not be able to check in until we have received your signature electronically. Please contact us directly if you do not receive this agreement.

It’s our second time renting this house. Love that you can walk out of the house and onto the beautiful beach. This is a rustic beach house with simple amenities which is perfect for our family to use and enjoy.

This house has a beautiful view. Located in Buxton which is a quaint quiet beachy location. Not built up, quiet, beautiful area. The house is as described in previous reviews. Beautiful location but very run down. Someone compared it to indoor camping and that is exactly correct. Beds were comfortable, internet and TVs worked, air conditioning worked for the most part but it wasn’t very hot outside (we were there the week of Debby). While there is an area with pool table, foos ball and ping pong, there was about a 1/2 inch of sand on the ground (this could be due to the cracks in the garage doors) we did sweep it up and no lighting. There were boogie boards, sand toys, beach games etc but everything was cracked or broken. The outdoor shower/rinse off area was all sand, so once you rinsed off, you just got sand on you again. I am pretty sure very little in this house had been updated in the last 25 years. With all that being said, the house is spacious and has potential with a little TLC. Would I stay here again? Maybe

The view is incredible. Every amenity you can think of. Hot tub is wonderful. Plus a pool table, ping pong etc…amazing house!

After reading the reviews from the past, we planned for the worst and hoped for the best. Surprisingly maintenance issues still abounded, despite the numerous complaints of maintenance shortcomings. To the positive, the air-conditioning worked great, the hot tub was in perfect shape, the deck is newly redone and very good. The pool table and game area was usable and functioning well.
Unfortunately, some basic maintenance issues still abound. The dishwasher worked once or twice and then was non-functional for the remainder of our visit. A repair man did come on Friday. The Vacasa maintenance man said that he had been out previously submitted a ticket but to no avail. The master bathroom upstairs had a non-functioning handle on the main sink faucet and it actually fell off. The faucet on the lwhirlpool tub was broken and fell off as well. The shower curtain was in a condition that reminded me of living in a men’s dorm in college. The screen door on one of the downstairs bedrooms was corroded shut, preventing egress from there. And a number of the windows had this fuzzy wooden thing happening, which was disconcerting.
I feel nitpicky mentioning all these little things, but at the same time, it seems a handyman could fix most of these rather quickly.
Nonetheless, the house is very comfortable and cozy, location was superb. We would be stay there again- it truly is a very special spot in the world.
I think the Dolphins we saw each morning would agree!

This house has major plumbing issues that were not being addressed. We had toilets that did not flush and we had to empty buckets of water from a leak in the plumbing. The house is not safe and has a garage door that is ready to split in half. Our tv could not be used because it was missing the power cord. The toilets seats were disgusting and we had problems with major insects in the house.

Great view! But the house is a little rundown.

We loved our time at the Elusive Day Dream. There were a few issues with broken screens and things that I expect at the end of season, and with short staffing issues: the hot tub was broken (we were refunded for that part of our stay), and I wish that a few things could have been fixed, mattress pads and pillow cases that were missing could have been delivered. Still the view was unbeatable, and the layout worked perfectly for our family. We also loved that we could walk to local restaraunts, grocery stores, and custard. We would love to return.

The house needs maintenance. I had to keep my toddler from playing with large slivers of wood that were chipping off the doors inside. Hot tub was broken, lock on the sliding glass door was broken, and the drains downstairs were clogged. Even worse the property manager never tried to notify us that beach nourishment was scheduled and stadium style lights shined in our windows all night while the hodge shook and heavy machinery kept us awake. Nobody slept all week, and everyone was happy to end the vacation. If Vrbo or Vacasa offers an appropriate response I will update this, but don’t stay here.

Ocean Front and Center
Views from the windows and decks were stunning. Dolphins and water birds entertained. Great location to beach. Rental needs repair inside and out. Hot tub not functional. Decks not recommended for children. Ping pong and pool table were a nice touch. Coffee pot on its last legs but a new one was provided immediately.

Great location
The house is in a great location and beautiful views right across the beach. A short walk down the street gives you access to the beach. Nothing fancy about the house but it serves it’s purpose. Could use a few updates. Coffee maker could be replaced as its in terrible condition. Would also be nice to have hand soap available in bathrooms. Overall I would recommend renting.

Hard to beat the location & views
Incredible views of the ocean and lighthouse. Plenty of space and amenities (hot tub, gaming tables.) Just a little dated on the interior, but very clean and well-maintained. Would benefit from new deck furniture to improve the outdoor living space. Was perfect for our needs as a couple, but would also be great for a family or friends’ retreat. Ease of beach access was a huge plus.

Great Location but more like indoor camping
The location is great, we sat on the top deck all week. That alone does make it worth it. You do not have direct beach access, you have to walk through two neighbors properties after cutting through the bushes to get to the beach.
The inside is dated which I expected for the price. We did not spend much time inside anyway. The master shower is tiny, it felt like you were showering in a coffin. The fridge leaked all over the floor of the kitchen. The property managers fix was to shut off the water to the fridge. This also shut off the water to the dishwasher. So we had to choose between flooding the kitchen of doing dishes by hand.
The kitchen has the bare minimum in supplies and the linens provided gave us one towel per person and one very flat pillow per person. That is why I say it is like camping indoors. You get the bare minimum but you are ocean front.

Cute house, great location
Fantastic location, and a clean cute house. Has a good number of bedrooms. Does not have direct, private beach access, and the fridge seemed to leak all over the floor, which was not fixed by the time we left.

Best view in Buxton
This house is unmatched for its view of the shoreline from the upper deck.

Spacious comfortable
Beautiful views of the beach and lighthouse! We loved the little look out tower up top and wrap around decks.

The location is the best thing, right on the beach and very private location. The house had good space with 4BR/3BA - 3 good sized bedrooms with queen beds and views of the water, the 4th BR is very small with 2 twins. Kitchen and baths are very dated but very functional other than low water pressure and a couple slow drains. The main living area was great and fit our 6 people easily without feeling crowded. The decks have great views and the hot tub was a good way to get out of the sun mid day. The cleaning crew must have been in a hurry - they missed a bunch of litter and leave behinds from the prior renters but not that big of a deal. The ground level had a pool table and a ping pong table and with the garage doors open this was a very nice environment (after we cleaned up the broken beach chairs, floats and umbrella scattered around). There is a charcoal grill but it's seen better days. We rented a gas grill for the week which was a good investment. Make no mistake, we had a great time. The house is unpretentious and livable and the price reflects the deficiencies... good value for the money.

Beautiful location
House could use some updating. Cable didn't work most of the week. Beautiful views unfortunately porch didn't feel stable. No direct access to beach. Roof has several leaks which we experienced during a storm.

A peace of paradise "on the sea"
Hey Hatteras team,
We enjoyed the "elusive daydream" to the utmost!
The location couldn't be better.
We experienced the house itself to be a little bit "in the years", e.g.CD player didn't function any longer, the cutlery is very quaint - and we found mould in the coffee maker and some bowls in the cupboard. This was a little icky - but we survived; ))
Thanks again for your service,
best regards, have a good time

Great Location for Family
The house was more than what we were expecting. The kitchen is well equipped with blenders, pots, pans, all the utensils and gadgets you can think of. The view is absolutely breathtaking from any room. There is a private beach access from the house, Fox Watersports has all the rentals you need. We highly recommend this house as it fits everyone comfortably.

Staff is amazing
The staff at Hatteras Realty were incredibly helpful. We had left some medical equipment at home and had to have it shipped to the OBX via FedEx overnight. It arrived at the Hatteras Realty office late and IN THE WRONG TOWN! Hatteras Realty staff were kind enough to go to the other office, pick up the package and bring it to the house before we even arrived. Such customer service rarely happens. Will definitely book through Hatteras Realty next time.
