Great property for our scientific gathering. Kitchen was very well appointed for our together cooking, and dining room with piano was great for eating and musical performances late into the evening.

The Pickford House was great for our large family get together. There were enough rooms for everyone and plenty of space to spread out. The large bar/family room was fantastic. We loved the 4 large tables on wheels that could be configured however we needed. The large kitchen and coffee maker worked great.
We loved having a private bathroom for each room but, unfortunately, the plumbing was problematic - very low water pressure and it took several minutes to get warm water. And none of the bathtub/showers worked for our elderly parents. They were small and extremely difficult to get in and out of.
The heaters in a few of the rooms did not work. The downstairs heater cycled on and off all night making a lot of noise.

Unique and wonderfull
We organize large groups trips with friends and families a lot. This was definitely a unique and different experience in a good way. The house is great. I was worried it'd have a funky old smell, since it's very historical, but IT DIDN'T. It's kept very clean and fresh. The requirement of no noise outside didn't bother us, as we didn't do much outside; but we did get a noise complaint when a couple of guests gut too emotional during a political argument, when having a smock on the parking lot (we're Ukrainians, emotions fly high right now). But it's on us, we understand that it''s tough on the neighbors. So, know your group - will it work for you?
One thing I need to mention, is that, while understandably, not all guest-rooms are equal, 8 of them were comparable, but one (Charlie Chaplin) was obviously a maid's room in past life, located downstairs by the kitchen. Plan carefully who you put in there :)

Great place for groups
We stayed at the Pickford House for my husband's 60th birthday. The house was perfect for 20 guests. Clean, comfortable, quiet. Lots of room to spread out. The bar was great for entertaining. Great location with a short walk to downtown Cambria. Kitchen was spacious and well-appointed. I recommend adding a second dishwasher and another oven rack (it only has 1) to accommodate large groups. But otherwise everything was great!

Cambria Christmas
Our family really enjoyed our time at Pickford House. We had 12 family members and 6 dogs there during a rainy week, so we stayed inside most of the time. The land opposite was perfect for a quick potty break, and the walk around the neighborhood was just right for our pups. We LOVED being able to team up to cook in the big kitchen, and cleanup was easy with everyone fitting in the kitchen and dining area. The adjacent room was perfect for opening Christmas presents, and the main dining space was the place to gather for crafts, meals, and lots of hilarious games! It was warm and cozy, and the bar was perfect for our beverages and cookies! The cash register was a hoot! We all tested negative on the Binax quick test when we arrived, and it was such a joy to finally be together again after 2 years. I highly recommend this stay for families.

Nice place for a friends and family get together
The house is good and accommodated our 6 families. everyone got their nice space. Karaoke is good , though a newer tv with apps could be better. The wifi signal was also good in the sense it accommodated so many people online and few working, though sometimes it was tested to the limit. Overall a comfortable and pleasant stay and will definitely consider with a big group.

Business Meeting for Group of 15
Large kitchen and large sized pots / pans made it easy to prepare meals for 15.
House / rooms - clean and had necessities as advertised.
Host replied to my messages very quickly prior to arriving and gaining access to the house was very easy.
The advertisement does explain that there is to be no outside noise after 9 pm. This was understood, but what actually happened was that the neighbor approached us the second we arrived and parked our cars. He told us that we were not to make any noise or be outside after 9 pm, which we said was no problem. Unfortunately, we wanted to play a game of Corn Hole outside next to the cars in parking area in the early evening. We started the game and after only 2 turns, at 7:55 pm, the neighbor came out and told us that we cannot be outside any longer due to people trying to sleep. I explained that it was only 7:55 pm and that we would finish the game before 9 pm, but he would not leave us alone.
This is unfortunate, but I would not return to the property due to the neighbor .....but if you are going to be quiet and not be outside..... then this is a good option for large groups.
We loved the quirkiness of the interior decor and the history of the home.

1920's party at a hotel all for ourselves!
My wife's 30th birthday was a blast in this location! This place was so much better than we expected for our 1920s themed party. It has an Industrial style kitchen, full bar, diningroom, reception desk and so much space! Marci was really helpful by allowing us more time on checkin and checkout, that gave us some more time to clean up the place the best we could after all the feathers everywhere ;)
I was worried about the noise but we kept doors and windows closed and got no noise complaints, yay!
Thanks for having us, I think we might come back soon!

Perfect Weekend Getaway
We stayed at The Pickford House for New YEars Weekend. We travel a lot as a group and by far this house was one of the most comfortable and convenient houses we have ever stayed. The house offers almost everything for all ages. Kitchen is heaven if your group like to cook. Downstairs is perfect location to gather and upstairs remains quite and everyone can have their privacy. Marci was on top of everything and made sure we have a comfortable stay and was at reach at all time. We already planning our next family reunion here.

Loved the commercial lichen, the antique bar and the two living rooms. Only problem was an upstairs
So much fun. Rooms enough for everyone. Hiking , swimming, surfing, shopping, family games and cookie decorating. The house was also decorated for Christmas.

Amazing family retreat
Property was comfortable with lots of amenities for our family gathering over Thanksgiving. Amazing chef’s kitchen, social gathering and board games in bar area, and quiet “work from home” in living room. There was a place for everyone to relax and enjoy themselves, whether they needed to work or wanted to socialize. Place was clean and owner very accommodating with our questions. Definitely will return. Thank you Marci!

Family gathering
This property was perfect for family gathering. It was built as a hotel so has a well appointed commercial kitchen and plenty of room. Each bedroom has its own bath. There are two “living rooms” so kids had a place to play. There are several gathering places in the big main room—around the fireplace, at the beautiful old bar, around huge table, or in a sunny corner good for morning coffee. We’d call the place quirky in a good way. Family greatly enjoyed our time at Pickford House. Reservation and check in and check out was very easy.

Perfect Family Reunion
This property was amazing. We have such a big family, every space was utilized. The bar area and large kitchen were really the key for us. Every room has its bathroom, and you also have a "public male and female" restroom available in the bar area. This was a big sell for us as well, it made things so much more convenient. We stayed there for 3 nights, we had a blast, and would definitely recommend this place to anyone!!

We had an amazing time. We were there to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday. Our stay was so much fun, and we loved the whole weekend. The rooms are charming and unique. We would stay there again.

Amazing Stay
Such a great weekend! Marci was super communicative and great to work with. Lovely place - big enough for the 17 of us. Super close to town and easy walk to the natural preserve where you can go for a nice shaded walk. Highly recommended!

Great for large parties
We had a great experience. Our party of 14 very much enjoyed our stay. The large kitchen easily accommodated our needs with its professional appliances and was well stocked. Having a bathroom for every room was a huge plus and not very common in other properties. The property owner was very, very responsive and offered to send help when we couldn't figure out how to light the oven (which we finally did with her text instructions that were quickly supplied.)

Best location for family vacation
The property is super nice and Marci is a super host, very communicative and responsive. Our family is huge and we had a blast both in and near the property. Its close enough to beaches and many scenic locations. The house has a professional kitchen and that is awesome as we have a few chefs in the family:).
The bar is huge and is a perfect spot for an evening cocktail or 2. Overall we enjoyed our time at the Pickford house......

Perfection
I came to Cambria for my wedding, and as many of my new family members are out-of-state, I wanted a space where we could all come together for more than a few hours on our wedding day. It was the perfect place to celebrate together, and my parents had a blast cooking up breakfast (twice!) in their large, industrial sized kitchen. Everything we needed was provided, and I already have guests asking me where we stayed in hopes they can convince their friends to have their upcoming wedding in Cambria! Thanks so much!

Perfect for a group event.
Fell in love with the bedrooms and the main room. The bar is stunning and really added to the magic of the event. Floor near bar was a tad sticky, made need to be stripped and polished, like wood floors do.
Kitchen made the meals really easy. Very spacious and well supplied for cooking / serving.
Bathrooms were spotless, which is something I always inspect closely.

Group stay
our group of nine couples just loved our stay. Room for everyone, sitting by the fireplace, cooking gourmet meals in the large kitchen and Happy hour at the bar. Prefect place for a friends getaway weekend.

Perfect for large groups
The mansion use to be a hotel/restaurant/bar so the rooms are very comfortable, sound proof and plentiful. Perfect for large groups, we had four generations here for Christmas break! The descriptions and pictures make you believe that everything is in working order though, and it's not. Besides the parlors fake fireplace, none of the bedroom fireplaces work and the wall heaters do not tone down so you cook in your room if you leave them on. One rooms wall heater didn't work at all. The kitchen is amazing and well stocked, except the oven temperatures are off. We had to raise it 100 degrees to get desired temps. The ice makers don't work in both refrigerators either. That would have been nice but we made due. The water from the taps is extremely hot! Be careful! The plumbing backed up a few times, including in the downstairs 'mens' bathroom. It sounded like the ceiling caved in! It did retreat and the other bathroom worked just fine though. In the scheme of things though, this property was perfect for our large family and our dogs to enjoy all the wonders of a small town near the beach. We did the Cambria Christmas Boutique which was incredible, saw the Elephant Seals on multiple occasions and went to Morro Bay more than once. Not to mention the spectacular Moonstone Beach. Don't miss it! Downtown Cambria is like visiting a town in another era, so charming and welcoming. A beautiful place to visit.

Great place to stay for families or a group of friends. Comfortable, clean and well stocked and in a good location with lots of things to do. Could use some updating, but a fun place to hang out.

Great place for a group
We are a group of old friends from college who get together every year to celebrate good health and great friendship. We had a total of 14 people (7 couples) and this house was perfect for our needs. The dining room/bar is where we spent the vast majority of our time; eating, playing games, watching TV and talking. The kitchen is really well equipped and had everything we needed to prepare a meal. The BBQ is big and works perfectly. There are 2 big refrigerators which is great, but neither has a functioning ice maker so you do have to buy ice. The bedrooms are all very spacious, nicely decorated and private. We were there on what was apparently one of the hottest weekends ever in Cambria, but with the windows open downstairs we were fine. There are several portable fans available which we used to make the bedrooms more comfortable. There's not much around the house to walk to, but it's a very short drive to downtown Cambria, Fiscalini Ranch, Morro Bay and much more. Marci, the owner was very responsive to questions and Amparo, the caretaker arrived exactly on time and showed us everything we needed to know. I highly recommend this house for any group.

80th BD Party for 22
It worked perfectly for a large group of 22. There were enough beds and there was a bath for each of the 9 bedroom. One bedrooms on the ground floor was a good idea so friends who had trouble with stairs were accommodated. The dinner area was very versatile since it could seat 16, 24 or 32, and any thing in-between. The kitchen was a large commercial kitchen and could easily handle a cooking team of 4. The dishwasher is being replaced so that problem should go away. There was no ice making capability??? And the oven didn't not have a boiler. One dinner took twice as long to cook so the oven may need an oven thermometer to calibrate the temperature indicator. The piano was in tune. The Mary Pickford motif was wonderful.
All in all, it worked very well for all.

I booked this 9 room house 8 months in advance of my 30th b-day. I had done tons of research and this was the best option for hosting an event and having 22-29 people all stay in the same house...comfortably.
In a short statement: The house is Awesome, the service and friendliness could definitely improve. If you want to judge for yourself, I'll give you some facts about our experience, things that were important to me, may not be as big of a deal for others.
The house is amazing, very unique in decor and although its a little rough around the edges (like some rooms don't have working heaters and the fan turns on the same time as the main lights, etc..) BUT its got an awesome dining/hang out room with a fantastic vintage Bar. Well equipped kitchen and 2 fridges. Not only did this house work great as a venue for my Old West Saloon themed party, but it is also a great option for family reunions, etc. Each room having its own full bathroom and all the rooms being upstairs keeps everyone's stuff stowed away and the downstairs area becomes a clutter free hang out zone.
My issues with the stay: Marci, the owner is very busy with other things and doesn't really have the time to address all the little questions that come about with booking a reservation...she does get back to you and will answer them, but you always ge the sense that she is annoyed and has more important things to be doing. I was paying for the entire rental myself and when I'm spending a couple grand on something, I'm going to have questions and be a little high maintenance.
The caregiver that lives on-site was supposed to let us into the house late night and when we arrived those arrangements had not been made, she was also supposed to take the trash out each day, but that did not happen either. On the day of check-out, we had arranged for a 2pm check-out, but the caregiver came out angry at 11 and it appeared as though the information had not been communicated to her.
The caregiver was great in that she did not disturb us and put up with our loudness, but she could have been a lot more welcoming and friendly.
Like I said before, LOVE the house and would prob. turn this into an annual family reunion location, but not jumping to make those arrangements considering the annoyed energy the people give off.

Recently, 14 lovely ladies celebrated a couple of birthdays at the Pickford House. Our stay could not have been better. All bedrooms had full baths and there was plenty of room for all, not to mention the fully equipped gourmet kitchen, the beautiful old bar and the Kareoke machine. This is the perfect place for a reunion or family gathering in beautiful Cambria.

Best house ever! Had 19 ladies celebrating our 15th year of getting together and could not have had a better house. It was awesome large kitchen, great bar area and we even sang Kareokee! Went wine tasting and did the Hearst Castle tour. Our group this coming 2013 is up to 21 ladies attending and yes we are already reserved for our visit back to the Pickford House for April 2013. Thanks Marci for such great place to visit. We look forward to many years of stating at the Pickford House. Terry Volcano CA

We were planning a reunion for six families somewhere between LA and the Bay Area. Cambria was our preferred choice as we had been here before (love the area - the town and the coast). We were excited to find the Pickford house which provided the opportunity for us all to stay together. We had an incredible weekend. The house was great for our group - bedrooms for all the couples and the children had plenty of space with the extra rooms and rollaway beds. We cooked great meals together in the big kitchen, enjoyed eating together in the great dining room, hanging out at the bar area before dinner and enjoyed the karaoke entertainment every evening. We ate, drank and had many laughs during our great weekend away - we also enjoyed the Cambria area and hiked, biked, explored tide pools, visited the elephant seal rookery, some visited Hearst Castle, shopped in the village and walked on the beaches. Thanks Marci & Amparo for everything that made this a great weekend, we look forward to doing it again in the future.

The first thing that we said when we first arrived at the house was "we will be back again." we were super impressed with the house of how clean, cozy, and how big it was. Our kids also had a blast and did not want to go home. Marci, the owner, was super nice, generous, and super accommodating. And Cambria is such a cute litle town. We just couldn't find any negative to say about this trip. Thank you Marci again.

Thirteen guys mostly in their late 20's - early 30's used the Central Coast as a neutral site for our annual fantasy baseball draft, so we were looking for a place that would comfortably accommodate that many. We succeeded, as we didn't need to leave all weekend.
Highlights: the living room area is spacious without being cavernous and was large enough to accommodate all of us -- with laptops and accessories -- at the four square tables that we lined up like a big conference table. The old-school bar in that room is spectacular and kept us out of the kitchen when we were thirsty. Speaking of the kitchen, having a commercial style kitchen was a luxury for the food preparation effort and made it possible for us to keep enjoying ourselves without having to go on food runs.
The VRBO.com listing was perfectly accurate from both copy and photos. The house was very clean and well-maintained. Marci -- the owner -- was great to work with every step of the way and even graciously allowed us a late check out. For 13 of us, the price was quite a bit beyond what we planned, but everyone agreed the extra cash was well-spent. We hope to be back next year with better weather so we can enjoy the outdoors.

We spent four nights here holding our family reunion to celebrate my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary. We were 16 adults and one baby. We had exactly enough bedrooms so that everyone who wanted their own room had one. We especially liked that each bedroom had its own full bath. There was plenty of room for us to congregate downstairs & to have our meals together. The kitchen had plenty of room to work & was reasonably supplied with appropriate pans, dishes, etc.
I would recommend this house to others, but with some cautions. The refrigerator was too small for a large group. It was a full sized family refrigerator with a broken ice maker. We cooked most of our meals at the house, so we had plenty of food to store. We had to buy ice & use our ice chests. Also the bathtubs, though charming, had very high sides. These are very difficult to get into if you’re short or have trouble getting around. My 81-year-old, under 5’ mother found this especially difficult. The only bedroom with a step-in shower is the one with no direct entrance to the house.
In conclusion, we were quite happy with our stay here. We all agreed this suited our group quite well.
If you’re not too picky & need a place for a large group get-together, this place is perfect. If you’re expecting high luxury & a scenic location (for the house, not Cambria), you might be disappointed.

Our recent days at Pickford House couldn't have been better. The nine bedrooms, each with bath, gave privacy when wanted, and the large dining room made the together times roomy and comfortable, plenty of room for games, visiting, or eating. For three nights there were 29 of us ranging in age from 84 years to 8 months visiting from both coasts. The kitchen was adequate for all our cooking. There were trips to Hearst Castle, wineries, to the beach, and to view the seals in the ocean. Plenty of parking for the rental cars. The on-site helper was available, helpful, but non-intrusive. We couldn't think of any way our visit might have been improved. We are grateful to the family that shared their lovely home with all of us.

My husband and I chose to get married in Cambria Feb.6 2010. The Pickford House was the perfect location for our family and friends to gather after the ceremony. The house is charming and large and we felt like royalty having the run of the place! Everyone in our family loved staying in the home---so many kids and we never felt crowded! A top notch establishment! We can't wait to go back for a reunion!
