About this house rental
Description
Perfect for families and business travelers. Just over the Tacoma Narrows, a private, large (1,300+ sq. ft. / 121 sq. m.), two-bedroom, one-bath in-law apartment in an amazing midcentury modern house with a full kitchen, large washer/dryer, two desks, high-speed wi-fi (150mbps), two bedrooms with king beds, a living room with a 4K 55" Smart TV, queen sofa bed, and a dining table. Private entrance and plenty of off-street parking. Sleeps a maximum of six people.
The space
My home is a custom midcentury modern house designed by Pacific Northwest architect Alan Liddle—a Frank Lloyd Wright associate. It sits on almost an acre of wooded land in a residential neighborhood adjacent to WA Highway 16 and steps from the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The suite is over 1,300 sq. ft. in a sunny daylight basement.
The house has central air-conditioning and heat with vents in the suite though there is no thermostat in the suite. I keep the house on the cool side. There are built-in wall heaters in the living room and each bedroom plus extra blankets for chilly nights.
Coffee, tea, and bottled water are available in the kitchen, along with cooking basics—spices and oils.
Guest access
There are steps down from the parking area to the suite.
The guest suite is a large, private, sunny daylight basement apartment consisting of a spacious living/dining room, full kitchen, one bathroom, en-suite oversized washer/dryer, and two bedrooms. The rest of the house is where I live. Feel free to walk around the property. On a clear day, you'll catch an amazing bridge, water and mountain view from the southeast corner of the property.
Guest interaction
The guest suite has a keypad lock so you're able to self check-in. I'll send you an access code a few days before you check in. The code is changed for each guest.
If I'm home when you arrive I'll be happy to meet you, show you the space, and answer any questions. If, while you're here, you need anything at all please don't hesitate to ask.
Neighborhood overview
The neighborhood has easy access to Washington Highway 16 yet is off the beaten path. As you walk around the property and the neighborhood you'll glimpse bridge, Mount Rainier, and water views through towering trees. There's a beautiful waterfront park with beach access at the end of the street and a hidden, wooded park around the corner. Also, we're just minutes by car from downtown Gig Harbor, restaurants, and shops.
About a block away is the pedestrian/bike trail that crosses the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. From the house to the middle of the bridge is a 20-minute walk. It's definitely a must-see with spectacular views.

Getting around
We're not accessible by public transportation so you'll need a car (or taxi, Uber, Lyft).
There's plenty of on-property parking. There is a toll to cross the Tacoma Narrows Bridge leaving Gig Harbor (no toll entering Gig Harbor). It's $6 cash or $7 pay-by-mail. If you're in a rental car, check with the rental company before using pay-by-mail as they might have additional fees. Alternatively, you can buy a Good-To-Go pass, which costs $5 and reduces the toll to $5.
Other things to note
You'll probably hear us move about during the day. Most nights we're in bed and sound asleep before 11 pm and these days whenever I entertain it's usually during afternoon hours.
We are very close to the bridge so you can hear highway traffic when outside, especially during the morning rush hour. Inside the suite is very quiet, almost completely silent.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Owner had the unit spotlessly prepared and thoughtfully set up. It was very private. The local neighborhood was easily walkable. Very short and easy drive into Gig Harbor. Quick access to roadways going north and to the Narrows Bridge going south. The owner was super nice and accommodating. Highest recommendation.

With 10 being the best possible rating, this is a 10. You may say, “A ten, really?” Yes, a 10! It almost seems unfair that we cannot give this beautiful place something other than a 10. Some will rate something a 10 when it’s only very good. Ten is often overused, and regrettably, it occasionally loses its “punch.” This place is beyond very good. It is exceptional.
Since we cannot give this location something better than a 10, we’re stuck with using 10.
The suite is immaculate; the location is stunning; the amenities are beyond what is described; freeway noise is so minimal that you will not pay it any attention; Wi-Fi is sufficient; it is close to stores and amazing eateries, but still has a sense of wonderful rural seclusion.
The host is warm and inviting. She takes great pride in her location, and it shows. I will not spoil the little surprises by pointing out all the amenities that she provides. Just know that you are going to be delighted when you walk in.

Everything about our stay was perfect. The property is nice, the woods around the house make it feel very private. There were many thoughtful touches, from fresh flowers to wine and chocolates. Nicely stocked, everything we needed was right there. Our host, Silvia, is a gem and goes the extra mile to make you feel right at home.

We loved our stay here. We enjoyed having a lot of space to stretch out and were able to both work remotely with ease. So much better than a hotel room plus just minutes from downtown Gig Harbor and Tacoma. Silvia is a great host and we will be back!

From the start to the finish of my time in the property, I found unexpected treats and consideration for the enjoyment of my stay. The amenities were well beyond my expectations, and the location was beautiful and convenient.

Silvia is a wonderful host unlike any other VRBO we have stayed. She truly cares about her guests having a wonderful experience! Very nicely decorated and comfy. Clean with all the amenities you could possibly need. When we arrived to the house there was a table full of Easter decorations and lots of yummy candy and chocolates! Also, fresh organic guacamole, a bag of chips, a bottle of wine and more! WOW! We did not expect that!! Our stay was quiet and our two little doggos were very at home. We will definitely stay here again!

We absolutely loved the wooded neighborhood with the lovely park nearby and the quick walk down to the beachfront. The SUPER Host provided all the comforts of home and then some!
Well equipped kitchen and treat package left for us on check-in.
We plan to come back and stay again - I feel like I chose the best available place to stay for our 20 days.

This is a special place, an easy distance to the highway but tucked away from the main roads and on a property with lots of trees. Extremely comfortable and well designed. Giant beds. The host made so many thoughtful additions like fresh flowers in multiple rooms, chocolates, and wine. We were going to a wedding on the waterfront in Tacoma and had our two baby boys with us, and Silvia had provided a pack and play, baby bath and even baby soaps and lotion. The art and history of the bridge in the home was fascinating. Recommend leafing though “Masters of Suspension” if you stay there! The wedding venue on the waterfront was 9 minutes away, Narrows Bridge Park is amazing!-a must, and is walkable from the house (you can also drive down and park next to the beach) the HUB is an awesome family place to watch airplanes take off and land while enjoying pizza. We even hit Point Defiance Zoo on the way out! Silvia is a very sweet and hospitable host. I was very surprised by this little gem and would love to stay here again in future!

We were there for 17 nights ti visit friends in the harbor and family who came down from Seattle for the weekend with our 1 year old granddaughter. We celebrated an anniversary there and were celebrated by Silvia with some flowers, champagne and a souvenir from her trip to Alaska. We had great communication with her the entire time and she was very accommodating to us and our guests. Would highly recommend staying here. And the beds are super comfortable! Thanks again, Silvia

Beautiful Spot & Amazing Host!
We had such a delightful stay at this lovely flat in Gig Harbor. Silvia is fantastic and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. The suite is really spacious with big comfy beds, beautiful decor and nice views. Silvia's attention to detail is impeccable - flowers in every room and a thoughtful welcome gift- and yummy treats for our dog as well! Our pup was so content which made for very happy dog parents :) Silvia's excellent communication and hospitality really made our trip special. Would definitely be back and highly recommend!!

Fabulous host and unique spot!
We loved our time in Gig Harbor / Tacoma. Our host was super generous and kind. The 2 king beds were great (mattress was perfect and linens were nice and fresh - the hide a bed worked for our kids, but i wouldn't want to sleep on it! ) the setting was beautiful. Super lush- not space for kids to play outside really, but defiance point has us outside all day anyway!
Tacoma area was a highlight on our long road trip for sure!

5 stars aren’t enough!
We stayed in Silvia’s property for 6 days during our family roadtrip with our two kids, ages 1 and 5, and it could not have been more perfect. The views and location are wonderful but the best part is the care and attention to detail that Silvia has in welcoming her guests. The welcome gift was much appreciated after driving for 3 days with 2 children! :) The kitchen had everything we needed, the beds were so comfy, and I’m pretty sure we all slept better than we do at home! There’s even a pack-n-play with a snooze shade! The little neighborhood path right around the corner was perfect for wearing the kids out, the little beach that was a 5 minute drive away was perfect for picnics, and the view of the Narrows Bridge never ceased to amaze us. Thank you, Silvia, for being so welcoming and being a big part of what made our trip so wonderful! We will be back and we can’t wait!

A special place in Gig Harbor!
Our accommodations were ideal, clean, cozy & comfortable in every way. It was so well appointed and had many extra touches we really appreciated during our 2 week stay. Sylvia was kind and thoughtful - we couldn’t have asked for more!

A beautiful, cozy stay!
This is such a great find! The photos do not do it justice. This place has the perfect layout for it’s size where everyone can be together or enjoy their own space. It is so cozy, comfortable and quiet. The views are awesome, too! Silvia puts so much thought into absolutely everything! This has every amenity you need and then some. I cannot tell you the kindness and thought that goes into this VRBO. You must stay here! While you’re here, check out the Tacoma Narrows Bridge because the path entrance is very close by! We can’t wait to return!

You HAVE to stay at this property!
This property is GORGEOUS! The location is ideal; the suite is fantastic for the price; all the comforts you’ll ever need and more.
I am traveling with my mom after my fathers death this year and Silvia was beyond what I could ever expect. The property have a fantastic washer and dryer, it has your choice of coffee makers, Wonderful range for cooking, very accommodating when I asked for dark colored sheets because my hair is a superhero blue. (I didn’t want to ruin her sheets or anything.)
The one thing I forgot to ask, if I could take the soaps she had in the suite. A beautiful lavender with gardenia in the soaps.
The internet was fantastic for the meeting my mom and I had to attend on zoom. Not one interruption.
The place is very quite. Has heaters in the walls for each room. And that VIEW!!! Is just perfect!
You seriously need to stay here. You will not be disappointed.

Peaceful stay at a very well-organized vacation spot.
We were immediately impressed with the attention to detail and the obvious love and care Silvia puts into her rental space. There was a personal note and treats tailored to our visit. Silvia purchased and equipped the rental with a travel crib and baby bath specifically because we asked if she had them. The space was very clean, well stocked with kitchen items, and there were almost comical amounts of extra sheets, blankets, towels, really anything you could possibly need. We enjoyed our stay there very much!

Stunning Hideaway!
We stayed in this beautiful apartment the last few days of a very busy two week trip touring around Puget Sound, so we were looking to relax. The location could not have been more magical and if anything, the pictures do not do it justice! In addition, our delightful host left fresh flowers in every room and a bottle of wine in the refrigerator! She also very thoughtfully set out a comfy doggy bed, fresh water, and treats for the fur baby. It was easily the loveliest accommodation of our trip. Thank you, Sylvia!
