Susan is a great host with a nice property. This is a cozy place that offers ample quiet and privacy.

The room was cozy and comfortable. Very cool house in a quiet neighborhood and close to everything. We will definitely stay there next time we are in Ames.

I was traveling alone and the studio was exactly what I wanted for my trip. Close to Main Street shops and busses. Check in/out was a breeze. Communication was great. The water pressure in the shower was the BEST! Especially after a hot summer day. The doors can be a little tricky, but I got the hang of it guickly. Loved my stay!

This was a relaxing and calm get away. We were a 5-7 minute walk from downtown so that was nice. We had all the amenities we needed and we had an allocated place to park.

Very cozy. Only thing I would change is more lighting in the parking area.

There is a lot of alrdy-chipped and currently-chipping paint in this unit (at the moment at least). Host assured me that since it's a rental they have to pass strict inspections yearly, so I wasn't worried about harmful stuff as a result. :)
Several of the windows are SUPER stuck in the heart of winter (early Feb), but at least one worked easily, which was all I needed to lower the temperature. :) A key thing to know if you're sensitive to temperature, is that the Thermostat is controlled from the first floor where a (I assume permanent) tenant lives; you msg the host in the Vrbo app to get any adjustments made. I sort of doubt there are separate temperature controls for each of the bldg's several units though, so it is probably the case that you can't really get settings too far off the norm. Personally I like/need it on the extreme cold side (I run a setting of 61 F at home), but that's just me, and in the winter at least the window solution worked great. :)
The only other thing to mention is that, due to the multiple units and especially the resident downstairs, there ARE Quiet Hours listed in the physical welcome booklet in the unit, that weren't in the online listing at all (at least when I booked my stay). This, like the temperature, is probably not a problem at all for most ppl, but I'm a night owl (at home my waking hours often look something like 6pm to 10am) and pacing from midnight to 3am was noticed due to the creeky floorboards heh.
All that being said the host is awesome - very friendly and responded almost immediately every single time I typed a msg on the Vrbo app - and the unit is awesome as well! Btw the second bed mentioned on the listing is a trundle, which the host will ask if you want after you book. Fantastic price, perfect location, and everything I needed (tv, microwave, fridge, freezer) made my trip a joy.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

We really loved this place! Stayed for a week visiting family and friends mid-winter. It was clean and cozy, had all the essentials needed for a comfortable stay and so conveniently located! Walking distance to Main Street diners, pubs, restaurants and shops; supermarket, post office, bus stop etc. Plus, host was super attentive and responsive. Will definitely stay there again!

I popped into town for a quick visit to see our ISU sophomore son and this was perfect for me. A little off campus - quiet - which was great!. The room was spacious and I loved the kitchenette area. I'll use again for sure if coming by myself. It would be a little tight if I was sharing the space with my husband and other son.
And it was VERY reasonably priced!

Well-located, comfortable, clean, cheerful and well-appointed. Susan was very responsive.

The property had all the essentials. A compact space but well-appointed, clean, and had a comfortable bed. Good location that is close to ISU and main street.

Pros: The property manager got back to me right away. Nicely decorated Vrbo-like the pictures. Easy check-in and out. Comfy bed, clean. Near Duff street which is a main street in Ames. Convenient. Amazon Firestick worked great and could watch TV from bed. Super Quiet. Great Parking.
Cons: This is a huge old house converted into Vrbo's--I had room 708 which is upstairs using a narrow hallway that is not lit at night. (No motion lights either) My college son walked me upstairs using the lights from our phones. From a security standpoint and as a single traveler, not the best. Also, the lock to the room could easily be busted into. I (as a single traveler) did not feel safe with the latch and door lock that was on there. The bathroom was very clean and I appreciated the soft towels--but it is small. I'm short so I was fine, but my 6'3" son laughed because it was too small for him. Overall, great stay for the 2 nights I had. Thank you!!

Although the space is a little small, it had everything we needed! Located upstairs, this space had a full kitchen, two comfy beds and A LOT of storage. The bathroom was a little tight, but fully stocked with toiletries and plenty of towels. Perfect space for a couple of nights visiting Ames for friends and football.

I stayed at this location for a long weekend in October. I slept well and enjoyed the short walk to downtown to my favorite coffee shop. Although the apartment was well stocked with Keurig and coffees, dishes, fridge and stove. There were hooks where you would want them, mirrors where you needed them, and all in an hiatoric Ames home. Thanks!

The property was fine for the money you pay. Wished there would have been a comfortable place to sit. We weren’t planning on being in the room as much as we were but could not find anything to do. Historical Main Street did not have much but hair salons and coffee places.
