Serra de Monchique 'The Garden of the Algarve' Utopia, Well Almost!
The Algarve with its famous pristine beaches and micro climate offers the best year round holiday opportunities for the discerning holidaymaker. Quaint fishing ports and historic cities and villages compete for the tourists attention. Secure family beaches and the west coasts wild surfing beaches offer a broad variety of scenery and seaside activities. Over 300 sunny days every year make the Algarve, Europe's favourite holiday destination. The Serra De Monchique is the Algarve's best kept secret, founded by the Romans which provides a historic backdrop and its natural spring waters are said to rejuvenate and even lengthen our days. Talking about Romans, it was the Romans that built the stone terraces in Villa Vida Nova's gardens. They were built to retain the excellent soil for growing vegetables and fruit to feed the Centurians and troops, these days the terraces are still there but it's not the Romans getting fat on all that fruit.

New to Portugal? Monchique is a perfect introduction. Enjoy "Authentic Portugal" at its best, with some intriguing surprises around every corner.Monchique is nestled in a valley between the only two mountains in the Algarve, Foia and Picota. Established by the Romans, who built, with granite, terraces on the rich fertile land to grow produce, the Villa sits on these same terraces today. Corga das Ervilhas - Terraces of Peas! Our terraces still produce oranges, tangerines, lemons, plums, peaches, figs, persimmon fruit, grapes, olives, of which our guests are welcome to eat.
There are level walks, steep walks, walks to the top of Foia and walks to the cafes in town. Bird watching is very popular as we are on a major migratory route. Cork oak forests abound and offer welcome shade from the hot summer sun, and after all that exercise kick off your shoes and cool off in the infinity pool. Wind down with a glass of local wine or ice cold beer or test your culinary skills on the BBQ.
