About this house rental
Firefly Lake House in the Cullman County part of Smith Lake is the perfect family retreat! Only 1 hour from Birmingham and 25 min from exit 305 off I-65!
3 bedrooms and it sleeps 8 total! 2 of the bedrooms and 1 bath are on the main level, and 1 bedroom and 1 bath is on the daylight basement level. Each bedroom has one queen size bed. There is also a twin bed in the basement bedroom. There's a crib mattress to lay down if needed.
The daylight basement provides convenience when coming in from the lake and a lot of fun with the ping pong table in a large hang-out space. The upstairs loft provides a nice getaway for games and movie watching (login to smart TV). There's also a new sectional sofa that slides out and 6 person dining table.
The privacy of the home and location on the lake are unmatched. There are no homes across the water and hardly any neighbors. We provide two kayaks, one canoe and a large swim mat for hours of family fun. The fishing is good too (bring poles)! We also have a new fire pit and firewood! The boat launch at Arrowhead RV Park is only 5 minutes away. Free Boat Rental Delivery is March to Aug. Lower water prevents boats at our dock late September through February...but zero boat traffic means this is the perfect time for kayaking, fishing, etc.
Relax at night in the rocking chairs or swings on the covered porch and enjoy the beautiful stars on the middle deck. The beauty of nature is all around!

Firefly Lake House is located on County Road 950 in Crane Hill, Alabama. The home was built in 2018 on 3 acres of land on Crooked Creek section of Lewis Smith Lake. The view across the water from the house is untouched woods with numerous birds sited including bald eagles, egrets, cranes, herons and osprey. There is a small cove on the left side of the house.
The house features include wifi, large screen tv's, gas grill (propane included), charcoal grill, ping pong table, corn hole game equipment, 13ft canoe with paddles and 2 single person kayaks. The really good "Sipsey Wilderness trails" are anywhere from 45 minutes away for the southern side to 1+ hours for the ones further up.

Horseback Riding - arena and trail riding is available at a local ranch with a very nice owner named Lucy. It's only about 20 minutes away. Check out www.PairODocsFarm.com for more information.
Cullman - this is the closest city with a lot of restaurants and shopping. It's about 25 minutes away on the other side of I-65.
Restaurants - two of our favorite restaurants are Brothers on the Lake and Kat Daddy's BBQ.

The house was very clean, and fairly easy to find. Our main complaint was a lack of comfortable seating for everyone in one area. There is not a living room or seating room with enough comfortable seating for 6 people.

This was our second stay at this beautiful lake house. The two bedrooms on the main level each have private access to the deck and both have wonderful views. The deck and porch swings are perfect for relaxing and enjoying the view. Beds are comfy and the kitchen was well stocked. I would definitely recommend this home!

This house was amazing! Not only was it so fun and relaxing for everyone in the family including the grandparents, it was comfortable and just the right amount of space for 7 of us. The house came with almost everything you could need and the lake was beautiful! The home owners were so personable and responded to anything we reached out for right away! The neighbors were also very kind and patient with us. The whole town was just so sweet! It was just overall an amazing vacation. We got to see birds, turtles, fireflies, and frogs! We rented a boat for a few days at the Smith Lake Boating Adventures, which i highly recommend! The firefly lake house was an experience we will always remember!

We were looking to get away for spring break to somewhere that was NOT a crowded Florida beach!
As indicated there was no cell service, but WiFi worked well enough to make calls and we wanted to be as “off the grid” as possible and Firefly was perfect. Our two kids, 12 and 15, had a blast with the kayaks and lillipad, and the couple of rainy days were no problem with the ping pong table downstairs and covered porches to sit and watch the rain and wildlife.
Speaking of - there is a TON of wildlife to observe and enjoy.
Lastly our hosts were super responsive - we had a few things that needed attention and they were immediately on it. The kitchen is very well equipped - with a remote spot we did not go out at all. And if you get in a pinch… the dollar general is 6 min away and has about everything you could need, or if you need it there’s a Walmart 20 min away - it just doesn’t feel like ANY of that exists when you’re at the house!
It was exactly what we needed - thank you!

We left WI to escape the cold. The cold happened to be everywhere this year. We were able to find time to relax and get away from work. Maybe next time we will get on the water.

House and property were in great shape and it was only 25 minutes to the Smith Lake Park Ramp.

We really enjoyed our weekend at the Firefly lakehouse. Communication was great, the house was spotless, and all the extras (life vests, canoe, kayaks, etc.) made for an action packed weekend that left all the adults exhausted and the kids ready for more. We also highly recommend Smith Lake Boating Adventures, who drop off and pick up the boat at the house.

Alabama Getaway
My overall impression of the place was it was all that we wanted, privacy, a place to relax, and listen to the crickets at night. My thoughts on this property is that an older couple still can enjoy it, but bringing down kayaks, lily pad, hauling bag chairs down those stairs to the wharf would be a challenge. We would have just dove in the water and swam around and enjoyed the view. Younger adults, who are physically strong, can definitely handle all those water sport ammenities, if they want to. Overall, we had a great time there and hosts were very amenable to our questions. Being so out in the country, the phone service was pretty sketchy.. I'm glad we went with two young adults that could have helped us if need be.
Thanks,
Cheryl and Brian

Wedding at Smith Lake
My daughter got married at the Barn at Smith Lake, and we stayed at Kristi's cabin for the long weekend. It was just right. We used both bedrooms, the loft, and the basement for sleeping. Everything was in good shape; we even brought our boat and were able to keep it at the dock. Everyone had a great time.

Such a fun trip!
Thank you so much for a wonderful trip. We enjoyed the birds, frogs, turtles, and magical moments at this lovely lake house. From quiet mornings on the porch, to hours swimming off the dock, we can’t say enough great things about our time on Smith Lake. We hope to stay at The Firefly again.

Peace and Quiet
Very clean but the stairway was difficult for my father. The downstairs area really isolated and had no TV.

Excellent Property
The property was very nice and well maintained. It was perfect for our family of five. The kids enjoyed the use of the mat and kayak that were provided outside as well as the games and table tennis within the house. We enjoyed everything about the house and the communication with Kristi and Austin was great.

The view is beautiful! We stayed Mon-Thurs and it was very quiet and peaceful. My kids loved the lily pad as it gave the non swimmers a way to be in the water without feeling scared. The dock was great for fishing and we caught several. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean. This didn't bother us at all, but just in case others need to know, there are a lot of stairs down to the dock. If you aren't in shape before your visit, you will be afterwards. The balcony is a great place to rest and enjoy the view after walking up all the steps. We would definitely stay again!
