pretty accessible
listed as closest property to Grutas
there are hotels by the grutas - they just don’t advertise ,

The hotel is conveniently close to the Grutas at Tolantongo. The staff was very nice, there was plenty of air circulation to keep the place cool during the day and plenty of blankets to stay warm at night.
The bathroom had a very strong smell of sewage, had to keep the door closed and the window open at all times. The hot water was scarce to shower. Wi-Fi was iffy at best, kept cutting in and out. TVs didn’t work.

The location is perfect for the grutas, very convenient. The rooms were very clean and comfortable.
The cost of the rooms if we had called directly was more than 300 mxn less than what we paid on booking. I regret not having called. The food was not great at the hotel's restaurant, and the staff was not very friendly, also calculated the dinner bill incorrectly (fixed it when we pointed it out).

I made this booking because it was for just one night, and I wanted to be "down the hill" from Grutas Tolantango ( a MUST SEE!). There is a restaurant there and bar.
The room was small, but had a king-size bed, and it was clean. The shower was good.
The room had a covered outside balcony that was big enough to sit on (bench included).
Breakfast was not included, but inexpensive and good, with lots of options. They also have a bar and it was open late.
There is a beautiful church in the small town nearby, which is worth a visit.
No AC, but it was cool enough with the windows open. Unfortunately, our room faced the main road, with traffic going by at night, and the curtain over the door to the balcony did not go all the way down and was also not opaque, so there was a privacy and light issue.

It’s the only bookable hotel near Grutas Tolantongo so if you’d like to arrive in the evening and go up to Grutas in the morning you don’t have much choice. You can try to stay at Ixmiquilpan instead, you might be more comfortable but adds a little to your morning drive but the road between Ixmiquilpan and Grutas are all right, you won’t struggle much.
This info is for a mid-June stay, 2022.
- It’s not true that there isn’t hot water - we texted the WhatsApp number on the door and after an hour of no reply someone came out and turned the pump on. They didn’t tell us anything so we still had shower in the cold water because we gave up on the wait, but you my friend, all you need to do is ask specifically that you’ll want hot water in advance.
- Also the girl who checked us in specifically drove out for us - you need to let them know when are you coming otherwise it’s closed. She told us she will be there in the morning to hand her the keys but no one was around so we left the key by the main door and left. They were happy with it.
- ROOSTERS go wild in front of your window from 4am, bring earplugs.
- It’s very overpriced, but since there’s no competition you don’t have a choice. All the other hotels we’ve seen on the strip were closed. The restaurant and shop of the hotel was also closed, but some other small food stores were open towards ixmiquilpan.

- Beds
- There’s WiFi (not according description of booking.com)
We’ve booked a room with a double bed and an extra large double bed, but we’ve got a smaller room with two twin beds. There should be a balcony with this room type, but there’s not. Staff was not helpful and rude.
You will be charged for late check in (after 12 pm). No service.
We’ve ended up paying 1255 pesos (charged on my cart) for a room worth 800 pesos. Totally not worth the money!!!

Nothing and I don’t understand why bilking is marketing this kind of properties. the situation in Booking.com is too bad because they’re including it. in the future I’m not sure to use Booking.com. Booking.com level is down

The hotel is located just off the road to Tolatonga. Drive to Tolatonga is very close - about 15 minutes. There is nothing near the hotel - only a gas station and a few of the same small family hotels. The owner waited for us (we were the only guests of the hotel) because we arrived late, gave the keys, told everything and showed - although it was difficult, since he does not speak English. Very authentic hotel and very authentic hotel refurbishment. It will not suit you if you like luxury 5 * hotels, but for you if you want to feel the spirit of the mountains and real life in the outback of Mexico. There is a small parking lot in front of the hotel. There is a restaurant in a 5-minute walk near the road that works until late, the owner explained how to get there.
If the hotel had its own working restaurant, it would be comfortable for guests passing by by chance.
