wonderful setting and the room was comfortable, warm and luxurious. The setting is amazing and each room has a view of the river. The service was very attentive and impeccable. We were Meg at the door every time we arrived, our car was parked for us. We were given a personal tour of the main building and a glass of champagne when we arrived. The food was fabulous as expected. All in all a perfect stay.

Magical Location

Lovely location, great for fishing (but I don’t fish)
Tour costs are very high and disappointing. If flying in from overseas, it took us 5 hours drive to drive the 217km from Auckland, and helicopter transfers were extortionate (3-4 times Australian prices, 5 times more than US). Not the lodge’s fault, but it will make it more difficult logistically to go back.

Place is great
Staff are good service
Food not up to standard of a luxury lodge
Which is one of the main items not good value for money

Beautiful property just out of town quiet and peaceful.
Food choices at Dinner need a bit of attention for a Lodge of this statue

Wonderful location, each room is private but with great views. Food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner. Staff were superb, very helpful, responsive and friendly.

Food was exceptional and having different cultures was also good.
The room locations were stunning however as I booked for both couples to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary I was rather disappointed that our friend got a larger suite and we weren’t side by side. As well as more mocktail suggestions are definitely needed to compliment guests that don’t drink.

Beautiful location, very scenic. Wonderful, attentive staff. Excellent meals and catering to individual tastes. Beautiful dining experiences for breakfast, lunch and / or dinner. Top class.
Loved everything. No negatives at all.

Wonderful location, the setting is absolutely beautiful. We felt like we were the only ones around when we were in our cabin by the river. Loved the outdoor dining areas. Loved the outdoor hot spa pools. I'd like to return in the summer months, but even in the misty chilly mornings it's magical.
I was disappointed with the dinning experience. Pre-diner drink time goes on too long for guests who are not big drinkers and happen to be hungry. I don't like 5 course meals or a set menu. There is no Wine on offer with the alcohol removed (you need to go to the local supermarket for that) and they don't have dark grape juice on offer. I was offered Pink Grape Fruit juice when I asked for Grape Juice with my evening meal. So that was really disappointing not to be able to enjoy a nice something to drink with my meal.
Nearly all the staff were foreigners and I would have like to see a better representation of New Zealanders on staff.

The breakfast was the right size!
Light lunch being provided! The rate per day certainly should have included some form of light lunch being provided!

Breakfast was super. Eating outside on the patio overlooking the river and garden was fantastic. The home made granola was yummy and the portage the next days was divine too. Great 😊 I loved the gardens. Absolutely stunning.

Unique and Iconic New Zealand Lodge
The welcome glass of bubbles and the tour of the property when we arrived, instantly dissolved any life stress we had.
We really appreciated the effort the staff went to make us feel welcomed during the whole stay. Our favourite experience would have to be the solitude having our own private dining room with balcony during dinner.
Dinner, the after dinner drinks selection. and Breakfast were all fabulous.
The gardens were stunning and I really loved staying somewhere with iconic art and homage to the significant history of the property.

Loved the location and the overall deel of the lodge. Reminded me of similar fishing lodges in Scotland.
Generally couldn't fault it in facilities or level of service.

The setting was very special. Particularly enjoyed the pre dinner drinks and dining options available other than the main dining room. No TV's in the room a nice touch.
Can't actually think of anything!
