This home has actually been dated back to 1800 to 1830, due to an old window, in the sunroom now, and the side windows near the front door. If that breaks-we discovered we have to order the glass out of Belgium currently. The glass dates to the Jeffersonian glass from his factory in Richmond that burned down in the 1830's .. and how do I know this ? As an architect with the AIA, I have had the historical chapters analyze the glass, trusses and more of the home . I work on the home slowly with experts. It is critical to preserve this home, it is one of the originals in town. The foundation was worked on 2023, so the floors are level now, the staircase yes is steep, however, no one can correct this without tearing down the home. As an architect and preservationist, this is one of those wonderful qualities of a home from 1800 to 1830. This home was built before the town was established.
It is a great home, and I know the owner that grew up in this home , one of the original Cape Charles people left today. ( yes they grew up in the home in the 1940's on ). Their value added is wonderful, so we could take the home back correctly and understand the nuances.
Please note, there are flies, fruit flies, mosquitos, and perhaps some other insects flying in the yards and they do get in the homes, due to weather, surrounding area, and beach. The fig trees attract alot of these. We do have Terminix to assist with this control of these flies, outside and inside. They also offer a natural product. There are no refunds for flies/ fruit flies or any flying insect, we cannot control nature . These come every year- just use the replacement filters for the plug ins that are in the home, to assist with any entries.
Best to cook all crab outside as well, since this also leaves an odor and attracts lots of flies.

We spent a lot of money to stay in this house for a week, and it was overrun with fruit flies and sewer flies. There were thousands of them. The homeowner offered to have Terminex come and spray, but we did not want pesticides sprayed in a home where we were currently staying along with our small dog. Overall, the house was fine, but the bugs were a real issue. Also, be aware that construction is going on next door.

Overall this a well equipped home close to the beach and right behind the shops and restaurants. The yard isn't friendly for a toddler.

We had 4 adults and 2 kids for a fantastic week at Cape Charles. Location is great for walking to ice cream, beach and shops. Super back yard that’s fenced and a perfect place to relax with your dogs.

Very charming house. Quaint but perfect amount of space for two families of four. Great location; walkable. We enjoyed the backyard - lots of shade during the day, but bring bug spray. We ate in a few nights and ate out a few nights. Nice, big table for everyone to gather around. A few games, puzzles, outside activities were great amenities to have. The owner reached out with rainy day activities which was very helpful. Would come back and stay again.

Overall we enjoyed our stay very much. We had perfect weather to enjoy the backyard while letting our dog and toddler run around in the enclosed space. The house is close to the beach and to restaurants & shopping.
The BBQ grill was brand new (lucky for us) and allowed us to enjoy several family meals.
Would stay here again. Thank you

What a great place Leslie has! The house is so well equipped and has everything you need and is so dog friendly. My pup had a good time walking the beach and town. So close to everything!

This house captures the spirit of Cape Charles perfectly. It's charming, nicely maintained and modernized, and you can't ask for a better location. Leslie called the day before check-in to make sure we didn't have any questions, and she sent someone right over when my mom had a little trouble figuring out the electronic lock upon arrival. We had a wonderful stay!

We had a wonderful time. The house was perfect for us. It was close to the beach and very convenient to the main strip and all the places we wanted to go. We enjoyed the outdoor area and sitting around the firepit. Would definitely recommend it to friends.

This property is in a fantastic location so close to town and beach. The owner was very easy to reach and very pleasant to speak with as well. Being able to bring fur babies was a bonus too.
For us the pros were:
Location, Owner Communication, dog friendly, fenced in backyard, large dining room table for games, and bedroom on first floor with door to backyard(great for morning first call for doggies).
The cons were
Small family room (only 3 -4 people fit comfortably), older home so sloping floors and old wood floors that gather dirt quicker and steep steps to 2nd floor(elderly and real young one will need to be careful).
For us the cons were minor since we had beautiful weather and did as much outside as possible but wanted to share my honest thoughts.
Thanks

Perfection. Charming house. Perfectly decorated, perfect location. Comfortable and quaint.
Came with my husbands parents my two boys and my two dogs. We could not have loved this place more. Leslie was very responsive to questions. We had everything we needed at the house. We will be returning for sure!!

The location is awesome (right behind downtown area) and two blocks to the beach. The property was as described and the owner maintained great communication for a power outage related to severe weather in the area. All the beds were comfortable (no complaints from any of our party) and the air conditioning cooled the house nicely (there are two units-one to control downstairs and one for upstairs). The only suggestion I would make would be for seating area to fit a few more comfortably in living room space. This wasn't really a problem for us as we didn't use the room as much since we were busy enjoying Cape Charles most of our stay. Loved the having the tankless water heater (endless hot water) and 3 bathroom/showers available since it made getting cleaned up and ready to go in the evening much faster for our group of 8. Thanks for sharing your property with us!

We had a great time in Cape Charles with this house. The location was great - one block from Mason (the street with the most shops/restaurants) and two blocks from the beach. We brought our dog, so it was great that this property was dog friendly. The house was very clean when we checked in, and met all of our needs. The kitchen had all of the cooking implements that we needed.
I had only two qualms: first, there is a major renovation being done next door, so there were lots of workers coming and going. Thankfully noise wasn't an issue even with all of the work being done. And to be fair, you really can't rent a place in Cape Charles without being fairly close to some major renovation project.
Second, for the week that we were there, the sheets on the bed were disposable sheets. For the price that we're paying per night my expectation would have been for real fabric sheets. The sheets as they were made it feel like you were staying in a hospital bed.

You will not find a better location in Cape Charles. 4 blocks to the beach, half a block to town. You are in the middle of it all. The backyard is an oasis with beautiful landscaping and a great place to hang out after a day on the beach. The only “cons” of this property are small bathrooms and only seating for 4 in the family room which is tight when this house sleeps 8. I live in a 120 year old house, so I get it, but it’s just something to be aware of. This was our 5th year to the Cape and our best location yet! Thank you!

Great stay at a great location. It was a perfect balance of an original Cape Charles house with modern renovations that made our stay so wonderful. Super easy to get to the beach and so many great restaurants either walking distance or by golf cart. Would stay here again for sure.

This is a wonderful home, so close to the beach and a minute walk away from dining and shopping. You won’t find a better location. Home is updated and has everything we needed and the beds were super comfy! Fenced in yard a plus for our pups. Thank you so much, can’t wait to come back!

We enjoyed our first visit to Cape Charles (from Charlottesville, VA area). We'll be returning. This home was warm and welcoming and pet friendly. The bedroom on the main level was ideal for my mother-in-law, and the kids enjoyed sharing a bedroom with the single beds.
Will return again and hope to experience the area again by way of this property!

We have been looking for a rental near beach to travel with four dogs. Three of them had never seen the ocean so this was a bucket list for the family, and this house was perfect. The fenced yard, the proximity to the beach, the host and her communications were fantastic. The house is comfortably furnished, perfect for dogs and multiple guests, and had everything we needed to cook in every night..
We will be recommending this location to friends, and coming back ourselves.
This was also our first time to Cape Charles, and we loved the town and people.

My boyfriend and I love Cape Charles and wanted to share our love with our family. This was the perfect house and location for us to do that. We look forward to going back!

This house not only was beautifully decorated and had every amenity you could ever need., it checked all the buttons that we were looking for. We have a senior dog that can’t do steps so the first floor bedroom was perfect for us. He likes to be near us as much as possible and it really helped. The back yard was great and off street parking was very convenient. Easy walking distance to every thing Cape Charles has to offer. The host always quick to respond to all our questions and had everything ready for us. Thank you for letting us stay in your property, will not hesitate to Brooke this property again.

Relaxing weekend in a primo location. Because it was off season not to crowded in town or at the beach. Real dog friendly town. Only discrepancy was no shampoo or body was in dispenser, not sure it they were working correctly. Other than that it was one of the best weekends ever.

Our Multigenerational family enjoyed our stay here. Rooms were are large and well appointed. Mattresses and bedding were clean and comfortable. Plenty of towels. Showers were on the the smaller side so rinsing the sand off of the kiddos was a struggle. There is a fully stocked laundry room although between 4 adults we could figure out the washing machine. Kitchen was cute with everything we needed for cooking at home, including grilling. But we didn’t need to do that too often. because everything was so close! The beach was super short walk away so that we could bring the baby back home her her naps. Would run out in the mornings to grab coffee from any of the cute little shops nearby. In the evenings we would walk around the corner to the popular Brown Dog ice cream spot.
Bring your own beach gear.

Great house with lots of room for extended family! Dog friendly do 2 dogs joined us on the trip! Quick walk to the beach and the main strip! The room with the 3 beds was literally perfect for my 3 kiddos. Super comfy beds too!

We loved our stay at this home in Cape Charles! It was our first time visiting and we will definitely be back. The home was plenty spacious for our group of 7 and was so convenient to the beach (two blocks away) and restaurants, shops, etc. Our lab mix loved it as well and appreciated the extra large doggie bed and daily mornings at the beach off leash. We brought our 8 month old with us as well and the master bedroom was plenty big enough to have him stay in room with us. The outdoor space was great too and conducive to outdoor grilling etc. We will definitely be back and only regret is that we didn't stay longer!
Just a note if you are traveling with kids - the bathrooms only have showers, but it was still easy for us to bathe our infant since they all have hand held attachments. Also be sure to bring your own beach chairs etc. but they do have rentals at the end of the street.

Enjoyed our stay at this charming little house. Fenced garden makes for quiet, private space to enjoy evening cocktails. Kitchen well equipped, tho we opted for eating out. The house was very clean with the little touches, like flowers on the table, that make you feel at home.

We found mouse poop & damaged food on the refrigerator after couple of days. Had to throw away food. Owners response was to thank us so it could help later people. Nothing about checking now or reducing rent or even re-imbursing for food. It was a big issue to find it in the middle of our stay & have that on our minds.

Best Place in Cape Charles
What a great find! This is the best place in Cape Charles! We come every 3 months and found a new home away from home. great to bring the dog as well ! The fenced yard was awesome. All new furniture was a nice experience and fresh paint .. Cannot wait to see what they do with the kitchen in the winter - if it is half as good as what they did so far , this place is very worth the money.... 2 blocks to the beach- took us 4 minutes to walk there ..
