About this apartment rental
On the Cove is a spacious three-room apartment is located directly on Lanes Cove in Lanesville (Gloucester) with spectacular ocean views from every room and is literally steps to the water’s edge. It has a private entrance, full kitchen, living room, bedroom with queen bed, off-street parking, private patio with custom granite fire pit and yard.
On the Cove (our house and apartment) was used as a movie set in 2017. You can search for "Katie Fforde: Herzenssache" to find the movie trailer online (it is in German). The property was used extensively, as well as surrounding landmarks such as the Fish Shack and along the rocky coast. Also, you can find our webcam by searching "On the Cove" to check out what's going on and the current weather. Also, the property was part of the 2018 Gloucester Garden Tour.
When you stay, you will enjoy the intimacy of the cove as well as the views of Crane Beach and Plum Island across Ipswich Bay. This area is famous for phenomenal sunsets (National Geographic has called it one of the ten best in the world). Lanes Cove is a favorite spot for artists and kayakers alike.
Lanesville is one of the quaint villages encircling Cape Ann and is conveniently located about 10 minutes from either downtown Gloucester or Rockport. You can swim in the cove or take a short walk to Plum Cove beach. Halibut Point State Park and Dogtown Common are only a mile away. Lanesville was the home of many famous authors, painters and sculptors including Virginia Lee Burton, Walker Hancock, Leon Kroll and Paul Manship. It is also the home of the Manship Artist Residency and Studio--a 15 acre estate with two quarries.
Gloucester itself is only an hour by train or car from Boston and is one of New England's best-kept summer vacation secrets. From earliest settlers in 1623 to today's Hollywood film-makers, the beauty of Cape Ann has drawn people from around the world. Made famous in the movie "The Perfect Storm" and now "Wicked Tuna", Gloucester has a rich maritime history and is the oldest working seaport and active artist colony in the United States. On the Cove is spectacularly situated and wonderfully managed. The rooms are large and airy, a view of gardens or the cove from every window. Everything indoors is comfortable, everything you need in reach. I loved the voices of children and fishermen. I loved it all.

First off, if I could give more stars to Marissa (the host) I would - I don't think 5 minutes went by after I'd send a message (both before and during the stay) and I'd have a response back. Not just yes/no/OK kind of messages, but warm and thorough replies that made it clear she wanted us to have a good stay and to be sure we didn't have any lingering questions.
For the apartment - spotless, well stocked, thoughtful touches (welcoming goodies), and covered all the bases. Heating is radiant from the floors and really works well, as does the hot water and water pressure.
The backyard literally is the ocean and the views from each window are not "peeks", it's front and center full on cove and ocean. Easily walkable to local coffee store and small liquor/grocery store. 10 - 15 minute drive to either downtown Rockport or downtown Gloucester. reviewers said is true!
If you've spent time in Rockport (as I have for many years), you'll be surprised at the quiet. No cars/no motorcycles/no groups of tourists at every corner, just peaceful views and for those that you pass on the street when walking, a smile and hello!
One other word about the host. It's easy to run a great place when all goes well. It's when things go wrong that the good rise to excellent. There were some minor things that came up. Within minutes all was taken care of and again with the sincere effort that showed care and concern for our comfort. A++!

We rented this place to be close to Salem in October but not too close. It was perfect. Half hour drive. Close to train station if you want to use public transport. We had our days filled with activities so really only slept here. Wish we would have had time to enjoy the cove. Gorgeous views. Place was clean and spacious. Bed comfortable. Shower pressure awesome. Everything in kitchen needed if you wanted to cook there. Would def stay again!!

Adorable, well equipped and comfortable! Very clean!!! The ambience of this place was so relaxing and a wonderful place to come “home” to after a busy day of sightseeing. We had a few hiccups during our weekend (nothing to do with this VRBO) but Marissa was such a gracious host! She made us feel like we had a friend in the neighborhood! Property delivered as promised. The apartment had lots of space with a full kitchen and dining area with plenty of room to spread out in the living room. Heated floors were nice on the feet and maintained the temps in cool autumn evenings. Nice views from every window of the water and harbor. Great place for some peace and quiet. We loved staying at this spacious and comfortable apartment with gorgeous views of Lane’s Cove and easy access to the water! We got out on the water every day with our kayaks and SUP boards; and also enjoyed a whale watch and delicious dining options in downtown Gloucester. Marissa was easy to contact and very responsive. The apartment had everything we needed (including shampoo and soap even though the listing stated otherwise). The comfy bed has an extra topper on it, so if folks need firmer (like I do) it comes off easily.
Lane’s Cove can have a reputation for being loud, but we found it very quiet, friendly and peaceful.

We know the Rockport area very well and saw many different places, but this apt is the best we were ever staying! Stunning view, great location, well equipped kitchen and when you had a question or needed something Marissa helped immediately. Great spot for birders too!!! Maybe you can put up a Birdhouse and Feeders! We heard a Kardinal every morning, but never saw it.
One should be sooooo greatful, that owners of such a remarkable place share it with those who don’t live in spots they do! We simply loved everything and are thankful and will come back for sure! Thankyou Marissa and Simon

This is a cute little property. The host did provide all of the every day living necessites.
When we arrived there was wine and chocolates, along with some snacks.
This could have been a perfect get away except for the noise. Unfortunately we could hear the host above us, constant walking ,we could hear her when she wore heels, we could hear talking and laughing. I do understand that we were in a basement apartment, maybe some better sound proofing would work. BUT..
The worst part of our stay was the PARTY the host had, until 2:30 AM!!!We barely got any sleep our 1st night then they had a party the 2nd night we stayed, the 3rd morning after no sleep from the party we saw the host out front as we were going to breakfast, she didn't even say hello, which ok, no need to it just would have been friendly. The 3rd night still noise...once again very little sleep.
We were so unhappy and tired we did not even stay for our final night, we were hoping to stay and just enjoy and relax our final night and day and take in what she listed as tranquil retreat.

Perfect low-key getaway...
We were looking for a low-key getaway to reconnect, rest, and recharge. We found a cozy, quiet hideaway with chairs overlooking a cove that magically offers sunsets over the water. For anyone else interested in getting out for a wander or birding, this is a short drive from Crane Beach, Halibut Point, the Coolidge Reservation, and the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary. It was the perfect place to disconnect from work and the rest of the world and remember how to breathe.

Absolutely beautiful, relaxing retreat
I had a wonderful weekend stay here I November. The property is beautiful, well appointed and comfortable. I had never done a rental before that was part of a house but with a seperate entrance and garden it feels isolated and private. The space is well decorated and made for comfort. All of the little touches made it feel luxurious. The owners were easy to get in touch with, friendly and accommodating. I had a fantastic get away and would definitely stay again.

My family could not have enjoyed our stay more. Not only was the location perfect but also the hospitality. We had some weather coming in on the first night and Marissa stayed in touch with us so that we would know conditions as we approached the rental. Comfortable, quaint and well appointed are only a few of the words to describe our stay. Hated to leave and I’m looking forward to visiting the area and this apartment again in the future. Rainy week on the cove
This property was amazing. Clean and welcoming. We had rain every day and it made it just as enjoyable being able to have this great spot. We spent time all over N Mass and had a great time. Love Lanesville Cove
Check-in was just as indicated in email. We were late arriving due to my having a bad cold however this is a wonderful property. With some OTC cold meds we made a couple of short trips around Gloucester. Monday was so warm I just sat out on the porch watching the boats coming in going in the cove and a couple of boys jumping off the breakwater - perfect. The apartment was super clean and had every amenity you could ask for. Everything was perfect. The view of the cove was wonderful. This is a fantastic property. Unfortunately we never did meet the owner as my cold worsened and we decided because of it and the forecasted 'noreaster' storm to leave a day early. We truly enjoyed our stay here and will definitely come again, hopefully without the cold.
