Outside, sitting on the covered porch, you can breathe in and see the wide, mountainous desert, with a foreground of a pond made with local bentonite clay that holds the water very well and provides water to wildlife like deer, birds, and bats. This porch is a wonderful morning coffee place and has a terrific view of the sunset skies. If you want to take a trail, House of Trails, has a happy, well-maintained walking trail that meanders half-way up ‘A Mountain’ to a bench, or you can take it to Blue Water Natural Foods for a convenient grocery run. A carport is provided and a fenced yard for pets. Blue Water Natural Foods, conveniently located next door is the perfect place to pick up food and other items for your stay! Property is convenient and clean. It's a little difficult to find as Google maps sent us across the highway.

The house was great! Nice and clean, well stocked, comfortable furniture, and dog friendly. It's got a small fenced and gated yard which was very helpful as we brought dogs. Close to town and within walking distance to a store. There is access to the hiking trail right outside the door. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this property for anyone wanting to vacation in Alpine.

Nice house with walking trail nearby. Perfect for our visit to the Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering at Sul Ross. Watch out for the train that comes through and parks on the tracks for 20 minutes blocking your entry to town!!

Despite a high rental price, this home is not clean at all including bed sheets/towels (that are old yellowish color and you can see hair everywhere looks like uncleaned), kitchen utensils, etc., Road access with dirt road is also bad and dangerous one. We stayed at three different places in one week (all of them were fantastic) and sorry to say that this was the bad one. All they care is money and not the services. Not worth the money, stay away!

My family and I stayed here while visiting Big Bend park. The place was clean and kept up nicely. Easy day trips from there to the park. I would definitely stay here again!

Stay at the property for three nights. The home was clean and had everything we needed. The property is just outside of town which allowed us easy access to the local attractions. The only issue I had is that they need to spend a little money on yard work and landscaping. With rattlesnakes in the area, you had to be very careful walking in the yard.

Clean, well-stocked kitchen, new washer/dryer, all the amenities in great working condition. Loved the nearby walking path, the security of the place. And of course the extraordinary views of the mountains.

The home was beautifully decorated, clean and very comfortable. April made the check-in/out process very easy. Beds are very comfy, kitchen has all you need to cook meals, and did I mention the kids “loved” hiking up the mountain! Perfect place to visit!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the House of Trails!
The house was well equipped and well kept. Every detail was so accommodating from the, soft bedding and blankets to the natural house products in the bathrooms and kitchen space. It was also spacious enough for our family of five.
The views from the back porch, the pond and hiking trails were icing on the cake.
My kids asked if we could live here! Haha.
We’ll be back.

The house was comfortable, great location, had everything we needed. Loved the peaceful cool mornings drinking coffee and watching the local wildlife, I hiked the A Mountain a couple of times and loved seeing the setting sun on the other side The city of Alpine is an hour from Big Bend and an hour from Balmoreah state park; also near by is Marfa.

The property location is ideal. Drive to big bend was reasonable. Restaurants and shopping are very close by. Great place for family wanting to enjoy Big Bend but wanting to relax and have other amenities near by. Although things do close early in Alpine. House was great and clean. Beds were comfortable. The property hike trail was pleasant as well. Washer and dryer and kitchen was very convenient for us. Overall very nice place.

Very clean property, centrally located between Big Bend, Ft. Davis and Marfa. Very quiet and private location. Comfortable beds. Would definitely stay there again if I'm ever in the area in the future.

A lovely little house, well maintained, very clean and nice furniture.

This is a really clean, tidy and well appointed home with super comfy beds and a fantastic view. Grocery within walking distance, tons of birds visiting the pond and we saw antelope just beyond the back fence...pretty neat!
The only downside was the stickers in the 'grass', they are west Texas sturdy and sometimes come in on your shoes, then you find them later, barefoot!
We'll be back!

Before heading down to Big Bend, we wanted to show some of our favorite spots in West Texas to our friends, who are recent transplants to the State. House of Trails was the perfect place to stay for day trips to places like Fort Davis, Marfa, the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute, and the McDonald Observatory for a Star Party. From the outside the house looks small, but that is misleading - the rooms are generously sized and the floor plan allows for privacy and maximal comfort. We have stayed at many VRBOs, and this one was exceptionally clean! We appreciated the owner/manager's concern for the environment, which was evident by the eco-friendly products (soaps, room sprays, etc.) that were made available to us. The photos you see accurately depict the reality - the lodging is very comfortably and tastefully furnished and well maintained. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals when we chose to eat in, and a well-stocked organic grocers is within easy walking distance. It was so convenient to have use of a washer and dryer, too, before continuing our trip down to Big Bend. The views of the trail and the "watering hole" out back were wonderful, and on the first evening 4 deer walked past as we sat on the back porch. If you stay here (and we recommend that you do!) make sure to hike the easy trail out back for very nice views of the area. Although we did not meet her in person, April was always friendly and attentive, and promptly responded to any questions we emailed to her. We would definitely try to stay here again on our next trip out to West Texas! Thanks, April!

Perfect place to stay if your goal is Big Bend and McDonald's observatory.
It was very clean, stocked up with all the necessities, reasonably priced, conveniently located and beautifully decorated to boot.
My family of 3 loved the place. We would come back in a heartbeat 💓

Good rental experience, nice little house. Television situation including internet are poor. Tenants should be told about both. Also, the “yard “ is full of burrs. Dogs would not be happy.

We had the best time staying at this VRBO. The trail was awesome to walk. The house was super clean. The beds were amazingly comfort. All the ammentities were perfect. Will definitely stay again when we come to visit the big bend area! And the stars at night were big and bright!!

This home was very nice inside. It was clean and properly stocked with all the necessities. April, the host was absolutely excellent in ensuring I had all the information I needed. She provided me her personal cell in case something came up. The only down side to the house was that the yard needed to be mowed. However, I believe they had just experienced a lot of rain prior to our visit and just hadn’t had a chance to get that done. Would definitely stay again.

Great place to stay while visiting the Big Bend area
This was a great place to stay while while visiting the Big Bend area. Quiet and a great view of the night sky. The only thing for us that could have been a bit better is the reliability of the internet service.

Amazing property and host! Unbeatable views, wildlife and trails included. April provided great communication and was so accommodating. We would recommend this property and stay again anytime.

Everything they said it was!
Our host, April, provided great information and was very responsive to the couple of questions I had. House was super clean, nicely furnished, comfy beds, covered parking. Quiet and private. Antelope in the back yard at the pond. We would definitely stay here again!!!!!

The town was larger than we were expecting. It was a steep gravel drive up to the home but my little car did just fine. Overall, the home was very clean and we enjoyed our stay. We wish we could’ve stayed longer than 1 night. The view of the mountains was a nice plus.
