About this apartment rental
Over 4000 sq ft. of space with tons of light, views and historic character.
Four large bedrooms, two baths, a kitchen — and an absolutely enormous loft-like open space not to mention 15 foot ceilings, make for an experience unlike any other in Big Sky country. A raised area all along the south windows would be the instant focus for entertaining and also an endless source of inspiration as a sitting room or even a home office.
The space
Originally built to house the “manual arts” department at Butte High School, the building lost its purpose when the high school moved in 1938. (The main old high school building burned to the ground in 1946.) During World War II the Manual Arts Building served as a military induction center, and later would house the Butte Business College. Then, for years, the nearby Masonic Temple used it for its youth programs, DeMolay and Rainbow Girls.
Because of the building’s original construction as a school facility, the stairways are immense, more than eight feet wide. Everywhere, the light streams in — more and more as you go to the upper floors.
Guest access
Please note the loft is on the 4th floor of this building and requires some significant climbing up the large sets of stairs. If you or anyone in your party are not comfortable with this set up, our place might not be the best for you. Access into the building is a set code that will be given out the day of your arrival. There is another door (that will have a slightly different code for your security) to enter the loft space.

Everything was great except we didn’t have the code to get in was all. It was given pretty quickly!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Jeff’s place is so unique to Butte. The location is perfect, close to everything you want to see. The place is very large with plenty of space for a family. We got a kick out of the stairs, walking through halls with offices & mining posters on the walls. You aren’t sure what to expect when you reach the top floor. When you do arrive to the loft, you’re blown away by the space. Butte is full of hidden gems and this is one of them.

One of the best VRBO properties I have ever stayed.

We had so much fun staying here. Had a blast playing on the ping pong table! Lots of history in the area and building itself. Lots of things to enjoy close by. Does have a lot of stairs and we knew this staying here. We looked at it as good exercise. Very open space and lots of room. Definitely would stay here again!

We used the VBRO for the Bride and Bridesmaids to get ready in. Great location to do hair and makeup. Lots of room for everyone to spread out. Lighting is great for professional makeup to be applied.

This was a great place for two families to stay! We stayed here over state basketball and it was a fun place for kids to hang out between games. Lots of rooms, perfect location. Will stay here again!

This is a very interesting place as it is in a renovated old building. Very cool. There are lots of steps to get to the fourth floor but the listing makes that clear and it is worth the climb for such as unique space. It is quite large and even has a stage!!!!

Everyone in our party said WOW as soon as they entered the apartment. The main area is vast and incredibly comfortable. There are tons of amenities and games to play. All of the bedrooms were great to sleep in.
The one thing no one can beat is the view. It’s truly a once in a life time place to stay.

The property was just perfect for our family as we gathered from around the country to catch up and explore Butte. This is an uptown classic building and the apartment is on the 4th floor. (No elevator…the building was built in 1920)

An absolutely fantastic rental in uptown Butte! Every comfort and convenience was provided in the rental - from the living areas, to the bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen; no amenity was overlooked. Additionally, the rental was pet friendly, which really aided in our trip. The location of the rental in uptown Butte was extremely convenient, as we were able to browse the Farmers Market, as well as experience the great restaurants and shops uptown. Additionally, location of the rental is within a couple of blocks of the Butte Police and Fire Department Center, which brings a peace of mind. Finally, communication and response with the owner is first rate. His first concern was our comfort and he was extremely responsive to our needs. We look forward to staying at this great rental in the future.

This property was great! It was equipped with everything we needed to cook meals. The space is incredible; plenty of room for different activities in different areas of the property. It was in walking distance to many restaurants, shops, and bars. The view is absolutely incredible and all of the guests just couldn’t get enough! The stairs are a little cumbersome, but we powered through it and it was worth it (my grandma took her time up them and she did great). I would definitely recommend this property and we hope to be back!

Wonderful open space with a great view of Butte! Very welcoming and had many different speaces to enjoy: breakfast table, large dining room, comfortable living room area, and a unique stage where you can watch the sunset with evening cocktails. Our host, Jeff, provided great information about local establishments to visit within walking distance - I highly recommend the speakeasy! Overall great experience and I would stay here again.

Very cool historical building. Building is safe. There are large sets of stairs to climb which after a night of fun was a bit hard BUT totally worth it. The view was amazing, everything you could want was walkable distance, clean and spacious.

Wedding in butte
Loved the old school building. But there are a lot of stairs to get there. Great views, many historic buildings nearby

Daunting stairs
The space itself was great for our use..however the LONG flight of stairs made transporting anything...people or things difficult. Won't be staying there again
