About this cabin rental
Dancing Bear Den is a beautiful, private cabin nestled among tall hardwood trees and is perched atop Elk Mountain in Asheville, NC. This gorgeous property is located just 1.2 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and is a certified National Wildlife Habitat. The cabin is situated at an elevation of 3,500 feet which affords breathtaking views of sunrises and sunsets over the mountains from inside, outside on the decks or from the hot tub. This peaceful mountain escape is a beautifully decorated cabin with bedrooms on three living levels. It accommodates up to 14 people comfortably.
Dancing Bear Den features tall ceilings, fireplaces, handsome warm wood walls and hardwood floors. A Coffee and Tea Bar is ideally located between the kitchen and great room. Tucked away inside an upstairs bedroom closet, The Cub Cave is a cozy play area created just for kids. Whimsically decorated, it provides a fun space for our youngest guests to enjoy themselves with board games and a children’s library. The Grateful Dead themed room on the bottom level is a certain highlight of any music fan’s stay at Dancing Bear Den.
The open floor plan of the kitchen, dining area, and great room allows everyone to gather and spend time together. Three living levels gives everyone the opportunity to go find their own quiet space. Asheville’s music scene is a wonderful mélange of Americana, Bluegrass, Country, Rock and the Jam Band scene. Music lovers will appreciate the trippy art and thoughtfully decorated Grateful Dead room on the bottom level. On that same floor you will find a Game Room with a foosball table, board games and a smart TV as well as a reading nook to cozy up with a good book on a beanbag chair. Breathe in the fresh mountain air from the cabin’s wooden decks on two levels and enjoy a relaxing soak in the outdoor hot tub while taking in the stunning long views of the Blue Ridge Mountains or venture out and enjoy the area with everything it has to offer.
If you are interested in experiencing first-rate restaurants, breweries, galleries, shops, spas, and entertainment, downtown Asheville is just a 25 minute drive down the mountain. This private log cabin is also a mere 35 minutes from the Asheville Regional Airport, 30 minutes from the Biltmore Estate, 25 minutes to Craggy Gardens, and 40 minutes from Mount Mitchell, the highest point east of the Mississippi River at 6,685 feet elevation.
Dancing Bear Den serves as a wonderful central location to begin your next adventure. Gorgeous hiking trails, waterfalls, lookout points, amazing local wildlife are all easily accessible within a short drive. The Asheville area is a year-round destination for exploring the outdoors. Biking, hiking, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, waterfalls, kayaking, canoeing, and zip lining are all available to you in the nearby area. After your days of fun and adventure, you get a chance to relax and recharge in the hot tub as the sun sets over the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Dancing Bear Den does have a paved but somewhat steep driveway, very common for mountainside homes. In the snowy winter months, four-wheel drive is recommended.
For larger families and groups, the neighboring property, The Elk Mountain Lodge, is also available on vrbo.com listing 2290685.

We enjoyed our stay. The only reason I can’t give 5 stars is because the WiFi was bad. Not a major issue, but when the property is marketed as “having high speed WIFI”, it was misleading. Everything else was great.

Property is just as advertised. I surprised the family with a short getaway and everyone loved it. We did have a problem with the oven. It would not heat. We discovered this after we had already made the dish and was ready to bake it. The handyman did not make it out so we had to bake it on the grill. It all worked out....sometimes you have to improvise. Also on arrival, one of the smoke alarms was beeping (cleaning service should have noticed this on the day of cleaning). We did have batteries available to switch it out but it continued to beep. We ended up just taking it out of the wall to stop the beeping and made the maintainence man aware of it when we came by to check the oven to following morning. All in all, I would definitely encourage you to book this listing, its beautiful and the sunsets are outstanding!!

The Dancing Bear Lodge is a great location and had plenty of space for our family trip. The attention to small details was very much appreciated. There were plenty of towels, Kleenex in every room, plenty of toilet paper, and all kitchen drawers were labeled for example.
However there were some glaring issues that affected our stay. And these details are very important when you're as remote as you are in the Dancing Bear Lodge.
The primary issue was that the oven didn't work. There is a grill which allowed for an alternative, but we weren't prepared to prep our dinners that way. We'd recommend preparing for that.
We also didn't love that the fireplaces didn’t work. It's called out in the listing but the check-in instructions told us it was broken and asked us not to use it. Felt a little misled by that.
Overall it's a nice property but some of the amenities affected our holiday stay and made us feel a little disappointed in the value for the price we paid.

We loved our stay for a group of friends getting away to the mountains! It was the perfect retreat to get away from the city but close enough to Ashville to enjoy a day of exploring! We started and ended each day with amazing views!

Beautiful views and plenty of space for our group. The deck is the perfect place to enjoy your morning cup of coffee. The hosts answered all our questions promptly. When we first arrived we missed our turn into the driveway so go nice and slow or you'll miss it, it's a sharp turn. Overall it was a great experience!

Everything was as it was described, and the view was majestic. The rooms were all well supplied as well as the kitchen. Grilling at the patio was one of the best times at this place.

We loved the house! It had everything we needed and beautiful views!! It was more than enough space for 7 adults! I wish we could’ve stayed longer! The owners were very responsive and accommodating to any questions or request! Would definitely recommend!

We had a great time this past weekend in the Mountains at this property. The cabin is beautiful!! Very clean and well laid out. Lots of room for my group of 8. The kids really enjoyed all of the options of hide and seek they played inside the house. Beautiful views from the porches. We enjoyed the hot tub as well. Everyone said they had a good nights rest on all of the beds. Lots of signage about the low flow well, but didn’t have any issues with water the entire time. The owners were nice and quick to respond, however we didn’t have any issues to ask them about, just a courtesy text at the end of our stay. All of the communications before the stay were very detailed and helpful. We had a great time! We would love to stay in this house again!
The driveway coming in from the parkway direction is a little dicey, you need to prepare to swing big, but once you do it the first time it’s easy.
Thanks!!!!

The dancing bear den was wonderful!
As a long time fan of the Grateful Dead I especially enjoyed the groovy decor paying respects to the greatest band of all time.
The listing picture are incredibly accurate and the property management was very helpful and responsive to our needs during our stay.
A few things worth noting:
There are no blinds on 3 of the bedrooms windows/doors. This was not an issue for us but may cause privacy issue for someone else.
It technically sleeps 13 adults as the pullout couch in the living room is a loveseat so it has a twin mattress. We were able to acquire an air mattress for our 14th guest.
The house runs on well water so the water pressure was extremely weak for us probably because so many people using the water.
We had to take bird baths in cold water and used plenty of dry shampoo. We reported this to the property manager and he was at the house instantly with a quick fix. (Much appreciated!)
Their quick responses and excellent communication did not go unnoticed.
We appreciated the hospitality!

Relaxing 2 nights away from the kids! Property is in great condition. Very enjoyable stay. Great hikes during the day within 90 min. drive. We drove into Asheville each night for dinner - property felt remote but was an easy drive. We only used the first floor, but upper and lower are very nice as well and would be great for young kids. We cooked breakfast each day - kitchen worked very well for us. We would absolutely stay here again.

Cabin is amazing - beautiful views and feels very secluded - only one other cabin nearby but not right next door. Carlos was a great host. Would book here again.

Solitude, Great Views and Proximity to Asheville
This is a very well maintained property located along a ridge overlooking the Pisgah National Forest. It provides ample living space for large families or groups and is conveniently located for easy access to innumerable hiking trails as well as being relatively close to downtown Asheville, Weaverville, and Black Mountain. My family had a great week long stay in this clean, well furnished house where we had everything we needed including excellent high speed internet and plenty of room for both family activities and private time.

Amazing Weekend Stay!
We had a blast at this property for a bachelorette weekend in Asheville! The cabin was gorgeous and sparkling clean, with insane mountain views. It was very spacious for our group of 9 people. We enjoyed using the hot tub and hanging out on the deck while the sun went down! It is about 20ish minutes outside of Asheville, straight up a mountain. We scheduled ubers in advance and did not have a problem being picked up and/or dropped off when we wanted to be downtown one day (both daytime and at night). Carlos and Teresa were responsive and great hosts. We would definitely stay here again!

Birthday Trip Success!
Dancing Bear was our home away from home for my 12-year-old sons birthday weekend. The views were magnificent, The bedrooms were comfy and plentiful and the kitchen was well stocked. We braved an ice storm to get there, but it was worth it. We enjoyed the hot tub and playing games in front of the fireplace. The kiddos enjoyed the secret hideouts, reading nook and the game room. There wasn’t a fire pit, but the owners assured me one was coming soon. It was mostly cloudy due to the storm, but on our last day we got to see the most beautiful sunrise. We all made a plan to go back in autumn.

Spectacular views and comfortable property
This is a really special property with spectacular, panoramic views of the mountains. We enjoyed the multiple decks and balconies. The only other structure within view is a sister property located nearby on the same ridge, so if you had a larger group, you could rent both properties to accommodate it.
You could tell by the many extra touches that the owners really care.
We did have one issue with the amount of water in the well, but reported it to the owners, and they had someone there to fix it that day. (New Years Day, which is probably a feat to get a repairman on that day!) I believe they are improving it, to avoid it in the future.
The kids enjoyed the football table in the rec room, and this property was close to some nice hiking trails in the woods.
A good stay!
