About this cabin rental

Dancing Bear Den is a beautiful, private cabin nestled among tall hardwood trees and is perched atop Elk Mountain in Asheville, NC. This gorgeous property is located just 1.2 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and is a certified National Wildlife Habitat. The cabin is situated at an elevation of 3,500 feet which affords breathtaking views of sunrises and sunsets over the mountains from inside, outside on the decks or from the hot tub. This peaceful mountain escape is a beautifully decorated cabin with bedrooms on three living levels. It accommodates up to 14 people comfortably.

Dancing Bear Den features tall ceilings, fireplaces, handsome warm wood walls and hardwood floors. A Coffee and Tea Bar is ideally located between the kitchen and great room. Tucked away inside an upstairs bedroom closet, The Cub Cave is a cozy play area created just for kids. Whimsically decorated, it provides a fun space for our youngest guests to enjoy themselves with board games and a children’s library. The Grateful Dead themed room on the bottom level is a certain highlight of any music fan’s stay at Dancing Bear Den.

The open floor plan of the kitchen, dining area, and great room allows everyone to gather and spend time together. Three living levels gives everyone the opportunity to go find their own quiet space. Asheville’s music scene is a wonderful mélange of Americana, Bluegrass, Country, Rock and the Jam Band scene. Music lovers will appreciate the trippy art and thoughtfully decorated Grateful Dead room on the bottom level. On that same floor you will find a Game Room with a foosball table, board games and a smart TV as well as a reading nook to cozy up with a good book on a beanbag chair. Breathe in the fresh mountain air from the cabin’s wooden decks on two levels and enjoy a relaxing soak in the outdoor hot tub while taking in the stunning long views of the Blue Ridge Mountains or venture out and enjoy the area with everything it has to offer.

If you are interested in experiencing first-rate restaurants, breweries, galleries, shops, spas, and entertainment, downtown Asheville is just a 25 minute drive down the mountain. This private log cabin is also a mere 35 minutes from the Asheville Regional Airport, 30 minutes from the Biltmore Estate, 25 minutes to Craggy Gardens, and 40 minutes from Mount Mitchell, the highest point east of the Mississippi River at 6,685 feet elevation.

Dancing Bear Den serves as a wonderful central location to begin your next adventure. Gorgeous hiking trails, waterfalls, lookout points, amazing local wildlife are all easily accessible within a short drive. The Asheville area is a year-round destination for exploring the outdoors. Biking, hiking, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, waterfalls, kayaking, canoeing, and zip lining are all available to you in the nearby area. After your days of fun and adventure, you get a chance to relax and recharge in the hot tub as the sun sets over the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Dancing Bear Den does have a paved but somewhat steep driveway, very common for mountainside homes. In the snowy winter months, four-wheel drive is recommended.

For larger families and groups, the neighboring property, The Elk Mountain Lodge, is also available on vrbo.com listing 2290685.

We enjoyed our stay. The only reason I can’t give 5 stars is because the WiFi was bad. Not a major issue, but when the property is marketed as “having high speed WIFI”, it was misleading. Everything else was great.

Property is just as advertised. I surprised the family with a short getaway and everyone loved it. We did have a problem with the oven. It would not heat. We discovered this after we had already made the dish and was ready to bake it. The handyman did not make it out so we had to bake it on the grill. It all worked out....sometimes you have to improvise. Also on arrival, one of the smoke alarms was beeping (cleaning service should have noticed this on the day of cleaning). We did have batteries available to switch it out but it continued to beep. We ended up just taking it out of the wall to stop the beeping and made the maintainence man aware of it when we came by to check the oven to following morning. All in all, I would definitely encourage you to book this listing, its beautiful and the sunsets are outstanding!!

The Dancing Bear Lodge is a great location and had plenty of space for our family trip. The attention to small details was very much appreciated. There were plenty of towels, Kleenex in every room, plenty of toilet paper, and all kitchen drawers were labeled for example. However there were some glaring issues that affected our stay. And these details are very important when you're as remote as you are in the Dancing Bear Lodge. The primary issue was that the oven didn't work. There is a grill which allowed for an alternative, but we weren't prepared to prep our dinners that way. We'd recommend preparing for that. We also didn't love that the fireplaces didn’t work. It's called out in the listing but the check-in instructions told us it was broken and asked us not to use it. Felt a little misled by that. Overall it's a nice property but some of the amenities affected our holiday stay and made us feel a little disappointed in the value for the price we paid.

We loved our stay for a group of friends getting away to the mountains! It was the perfect retreat to get away from the city but close enough to Ashville to enjoy a day of exploring! We started and ended each day with amazing views!
