About this house rental
Clayton's 1910 Millhouse has been in our family for almost 100 years. We took all our experience on VRBO and totally updated it, combining the best of the new while keeping the atmosphere of days gone by.
The house will be decorated for Christmas around December 1st through the first week of January.
Relax on the front porch rockers overlooking the small lake or enjoy the sun setting on the deck where it is not unusual to see deer in the evenings.
On the inside, we have updated every room. Enjoy your favorite movie on the 70-inch TVs located in the living room and bedroom.
The house is decorated for Christmas with old and new items keeping the flavor of our historical house.
Clayton's house was built by The Virginia Mills Company in 1910. The mill burned down but some of the houses remain. This one has been in our family for almost 100 years.
In 2021/2022 we took our experience with VRBO to create an experience that we hope you will love. Everything is totally renovated yet we kept the atmosphere of a 1910 house. Several pieces of furniture are original to the house, such as the pie safe.
Whether you are coming to the area to relax or work you will find this house an excellent choice.
The living room features two leather couches, a gas fireplace, a 70 inch smart TV, games, Alexa, and Alexa-enabled lights to create a variety of settings and moods.
The bedroom has a king-size memory foam mattress, room darkening shades, a 70 inch TV, charging plugs for your phones and tablets, Alexa to play your favorite music, and Alexa-enabled lights. We even have two beds for your pets should you need them.
The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook including oven, microwave, and air fryer along with locally sourced coffee and many spices.
The bathroom was completely remodeled and features a rain shower.
The second bedroom is small but features two bunk beds and a Jeffersonian-era desk and a mailbox lamp, which was chosen because Clayton has mailbox 1 when Swepsonville had a post office.
Outside the property sits on one acre. The front porch overlooks the small lake and on weekends in the summer local bands usually play at the Swepsonville Market which is across the lake. When playing you can sit on the porch and listen to the music or walk across the lake and hear the band firsthand.
On the back deck, you can relax with the firepit during the evenings or grill your favorite food. The backyard is fenced in if you are bringing your pets
If you own an electric car we have a level 2 EV charger installed with J1772 and Tesla adapter for your convenience.
There are a lot of things to do located within a short distance. Saxapahaw is a restored mill town just 10 minutes away. It features Haw River Farmhouse Ales, The Eddy Pub, Haw River Ballroom, Rivermill (which is a 146-year-old former cotton mill), the Saxaphaw General store, and plenty of outdoor hiking. Clayton's place is also only minutes from Burlington, Graham and Mebane and 30 minutes to Raleigh.

Our stay was very relaxing and very enjoyable to stay at Claytons 1910. I'm not complaining but the walk from the car to the house could use a sidewalk-there are stepping stones but are covered by the grass. This house was so clean and well kept I will definitely go back to this house if available when I need it. I'll also let anyone else know about it. Thank you Mike for the experience.

We had a great time. Very cute house with everything we needed. Great kitchen, well stocked, and lots of little touches to make our stay comfortable. Nice quiet neighborhood. We were attending a wedding nearby and this was just the homebase we needed.

My son lived in this home for 8 weeks while he was in school at NCTEC. Everything was perfect. No issues at all.

Stayed 2 nights with the dogs. The place is great. Lots of small touches to make you feel at home. Yard is fenced, but if you have small dogs, best to stay with them or bring long leads, they could sneek out in a couple of spots. One small glitch, there was no hot water in the house (reason for 4 stars instead of 5). But the owner was very responsive to the problem. I'd book this house again if I come back to the area.

Everything was great - very clean and nice. Only small suggestion would be improved front porch lighting for after-dark arrivals. As an fyi, we brought our small dog (~20 pound Beagle) and knew that the back yard had a small area with a wooden fence. We couldn't tell from the photos if the fence had wiring to keep the dog contained. It does; however, our dog probably could have jumped over the fence so we kept her on a leash even inside the fenced area.

My wife and I had a wonderful time at this location.
It is not far from any location you'd want to visit in the triad area. It is the perfect size for a couple, and if we return would have no issue staying here again!

The property was very clean and well stocked with toiletry and spices. The special pieces of furniture they left from the original home was an excellent touch. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home!

We loved that the cottage was decorated for Christmas! It had every amenity we needed. Even charging station by each night stand. The weather was abnormally cold and the cottage was always warm and toasty. Easy instructions for checkout and checkin. Loved all the modern features. The fridge was stocked with water, local coffee and the list goes on!
A wonderful winter escape in the country. It was perfect! TY!

This was my first time here and I want to come back! The house was clean and quiet! What a wonderful "extra" to have a fenced in backyard so the dogs could stretch their legs after being at a dog trial all day! There are several places nearby to eat- with a variety of cuisines. Service stations were also close by to get gas on my way home.

The bed leg fell into the heating vent. Could have severely injured a child.

The property was a beautiful, cozy cottage with a modern feel. It was clean and we loved how pet friendly for our 2 dogs it was, with dog beds provided and a fenced in backyard. It was absolutely perfect for our stay when visiting family. Communication with the owners, when needed was easy and they were very helpful. 10/10 recommend this property if staying in the area.

What a Gem!
We absolutely loved this place! It was truly a historic home with all the modern amenities. Mike and Gail have gone above and beyond anticipating the needs of their guests. We wanted for nothing. The location was perfect for visiting both Saxapahaw and downtown Graham. We look forward to future stays here.

My husband and I, along with our 2 dogs, truly enjoyed a little quiet time away from home for a few days in the comforts of this charming little restored 1910 mill house. The owners of the property were so thoughtful with every detail to ensure you felt at home. We highly recommend this property and hope to stay again soon on our next adventure to Saxapahaw!

Perfect North Carolina contentment
Our stay was wonderful. The furnishings were lovely; the kitchen was completely stocked just like home; the large lawn was perfect for strolling and privacy. The weather was perfect so we were able to sit on the deck and enjoy bird song in the mornings and beautiful North Carolina summer nights.
