About this cottage rental
Never a truer rag to riches story than was the life of convict Robert Logan who was instrumental in transforming the seaman's village of Battery Point into one of Hobart's most prestigious and sort after suburbs.
Originally built by Logan for his young family, Berwick Cottage is now a well-appointed central base for you to enjoy with family and friends, as you immerse yourself in the areas historical past and enjoy the thriving city that Hobart is today.
Berwick Cottage is a gorgeous Victorian Georgian cottage, named after the English town of Berwick-Upon-Tweed where a young delinquent Robert Logan was sentenced to transportation to Van Dieman's Land in 1829.
Whilst still retaining its original facade, inside the cottage you will find a light and crisp interior. Its large well-equipped kitchen is adjoined by a dining area comfortably seating all guests.
A separate living area is cosy space where you can relax, unwind and enjoy the smart TV with access to fast unlimited WiFi. Chromecast is available for streaming from your own device.
Three comfortably furnished and spacious bedrooms provide private spaces for you and your family or friends.
Two of the bedrooms located at the front of the cottage have queen beds and the third is furnished with two single beds.
Within walking distance are numerous attractions. Start your day with a coffee and breakfast only metres away at the renowned Jackman & McRoss Bakery, or venture 5 minutes further down the road into tree-lined Salamanca Place to explore the restaurants, gift shops or Tasmanian's most visited attraction the Salamanca Market which takes place every Saturday.
If you are in Hobart for one of the major festivals such as Taste of Tasmania, Mona Foma or Dark Mofo, Berwick House is the perfect place to base yourself.
Hampden Road restaurants and eateries are just moments away. Salamanca Place, parks and the joys of the busy waterfront with the MONA ferry are all a 5-10 minute stroll from the cottage.
For those of you travelling in larger groups the Berwick Cottage has an adjoining studio that accommodates two people and is also available for booking on Airbnb as the combined property Named Berwick Cottage and Studio.
The entire home is available to you during your stay.
There is a separate studio apartment adjacent to the rear of Berwick House, which has a completely separate entry and does not share the external court yard.
We are available by phone from 8 am to 8 pm if you have any questions during your stay.
We would love it if you could message us when you have arrived safely and also a message on leaving is appreciated so we can clean as early as possible for our next guests.
Please please let me know as soon as you can if there are any issues at all so I have a chance to take the appropriate action to ensure your stay is it should be - totally stress-free and relaxing!!
As I am not in the area I am unable to personally check the house before your arrival - I am heavily reliant on my housekeeper and I need to know as soon as possible if you and therefore me have been let down in any way by the presentation or amenities of the Berwick Cottage.
In Hobart, explore the converted colonial warehouses of Salamanca and on Saturdays, there's Salamanca Market, Tasmania's most visited attraction.
From here it's a short walk to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery or a short ferry ride takes you to Mona, one of the world's largest private collections of art and antiquities.
South of Hobart is the clear waters and stunning coastline of Bruny Island and the beauty of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. An alternative route passes through the Huon Valley alongside the tranquil Huon River and on to the rugged Hartz Mountains National Park.
To the east are the wineries of the Coal River Valley and further on is Tasman National Park, with its spectacular coastline and historic convict sites.
Heading west, the road follows the beautiful River Derwent through the Derwent Valley and on to the grandeur of Lake St Clair in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

Overall a good stay but a few maintenance issues that let it down.

We were a family (2 kids 11 and 14) and friend visiting Hobart for the first time together. We loved that this cottage fit us all comfortably and we had plenty of space for TV, conversation, BBQ, etc. The kitchen was well provisioned, the bedrooms warm and beds comfortable. I'd say the only negative was there is only one bathroom and the toilet is in the same room which made for some awkward waits in the morning. But we understand that's the norm for old cottages like this.
The location was a huge positive though. It was within walking distance of Salamanca, of the ferry to MONA, the centre of town and we even had a parking spot! Not that we used the car much.
Lastly, down the end of the road is the award winning bakery Jackson & Ross which really is next level.
Thanks Sam for a great stay.

We loved our long weekend stay at Berwick Cottage. A perfect location, walking distance to cafes, Salamanca markets & Constitution dock. A couple of minor issues were the entry lock where the glass was badly scratched making it difficult to see & input the correct numbers enough times to result in us being locked out from the front door and having to use the back. Also one of the pillows in one bedroom had dried blood on the pillow case & in another room a pillow had a bright pink lipstick stain. Other than that we would definitely stay again & recommend to friends.
