The room was gloomy, dated. No usb anywhere. Water flow was weak. It was not a pleasant stay.

The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. The king bed was pretty hard and I don't see how they are "pillowtop". My only complaint is that the hairdryer smelled like burnt hair so my hair smelled like burnt hair and one of the coffee cups were cracked. However, management was so nice about stating they would fix this. Perks: fireplace was wonderful, extra sugars/creamers etc for the coffee, nice room layout, wonderful hot water for a nice soaking tub bath, extremely kind hotel staff.

Lovely place to stay in a lovely area. Close to everything but still affordable.

Nice stay at Deer Haven Inn, clean & quiet room, comfortable beds and everything worked.

Deer Haven Inn is an adorable place to stay. The neighborhood is very quiet and pretty. I stayed in a two bed room with fireplace. The room was clean and comfortable.
So happy I chose to stay there! Staff were very nice.

The room was clean, the property was nice. Service was okay. My issue is I had a smoke alarm going off all night and the front desk said I should’ve called them when the alarm was going off. So if it was a real scenario and an alarm going off shouldn’t they be checking on their guest?

Loved our stay here. Deer across the street and excellent location to walking trails and ocean and restaurants. Friendly and clean with nice touches of fireplace, small refrigerator and microwave. Only negative was cracks in bathroom sink. Would stay again.

It took us a long time to figure out how to work the heater...until 11pm the first night...the room was freezing! We opted for a room with a fireplace...it wasn't obvious how to turn it on...we were there during hours the front office wasn't open so we couldn't ask about it.

Beds were comfortable. Area was quiet and we were able to see many deer walking around. Nice little place to stay for a quick visit. Would recommend to friends and family.

The Deer Haven Inn was a lovely place to stay during our visit to Monterey. It was a convenient drive to many sights and services (food, downtown, grocery, breakfast, etc.). It was a lovely and comfortable, quiet, clean place to stay. The staff at the front desk were kind and helpful. I would definitely recommend this as a nice place to stay for a visit to the Monterey bay area.

Everything about the facilities and Personnel were excellent, except the TV in our room had a governor on it and the volume only went up less than halfway so that you could not hear the TV or the programming. When asked and confronted about the problem the staff said that it was set up that way so that it would not disturb the other rooms. The problem with that is the other rooms had the same governor in the same situation so no one got to watch TV that were there. We will never return to that facility

A bit pricey for what it is and noisy from neighbors above but location is nice. Also beds are super high but most places are the same

I liked how secluded it was and it was very close to the beach. Within walking distance. We just wish there was an A/C unit in the room.

I liked the location. It was a short walk to the Asilomar State Beach. Next time I will stay at the Asilomar lodge.
Amenities were similar to most motels except no breakfast. It took a while to determine how shower worked as it was very dated. We stayed two nights but had to ask for new towels for second night. Oh, and the sink's hot water didn't work the second day.

Need ac unit so you don’t have to keep window open at night to stay cool! Noisy roadside flop house with self absorbed staff

Masked young lady was very fresh and rude upon checkin, treated us in a gaslighting way about how we parked our car - as someone who works on civil engineering daily, the parking lot seems to be designed to accommodate drive up service at the check-in. She was very rude, which hurts when you're paying $350 for one night. Also, the in-room coffee is so horrible you can't drink it. The in-lobby coffee isn't much better. Other than that, its a cozy, clean, well located property.

For the price we paid, this was not anything special. I did enjoy the electric fireplace, but every thing else was average. Coffee not served until 8:30am!

Walking. Close to beach

The property was expensive considering the condition of the property. Rotten floor around the shower. Ding up walks, mold in the tile grout.

This property is cute! Loved the fireplace and the mid sized fridge in the room. Very close to Alisomar beach, so the location is really ideal. The dunes are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. Also saw no less than 3 deer! Will definitely stay here again.

This is our second time staying at the Deer Haven and we were once again very happy with our stay. The staff is friendly and the rooms are very clean. The fireplace is a nice little bonus. It’s a pretty easy walk to the ocean which is another plus.

Nice and quiet little hotel. Everything was perfect. The only thing I would say is the rooms are a little small but it does have a small couch and a little table with 2 chairs in the room too

The Deer Haven Inn is the perfect place to get away and is so close to the beach. It’s quiet, not too big and the views are stunning. I plan on going back asap.

Nice little hotel with wonderful staff. It wasn’t anything fancy, but it was a cozy little room and a decent price for the area. I’d stay here again

I was traveling with 2 small children to visit the Monterey Bay aquarium and was looking for a budget option in the area on short notice.
Pros: Free parking, walking distance to beach (about 15 min w small kids), and an easy drive to Monterey. The rooms were very clean, maid service was thorough, and the front desk was friendly and helpful. The fireplace was a nice feature, and they do a good job providing info about the area and a guide to restaurant delivery.
Cons: Our room had 2 queen beds, and was a tight squeeze for the 3 of us. Minimal floor space for suitcases or doing anything besides sitting on the bed. The beds were also hard for my taste and I was pretty sore after a couple nights there. Cable TV only (no streaming) and there were things here and there that weren't in great repair in the room.
All things considered, Deer Haven Inn worked just fine for our purpose, though it had limitations and I would probably opt for an upgrade if we return to the area.

This was an amazing property. We used to live down the railroad trail and have seen this property on a daily basis. Had no idea it was not only dog friendly (dog loving per their web site and their attitude). Being so close to the ocean and all of our favorite haunts. It was a wonderful trip and Deer Haven was part of the reason for the success of our trip.

What a disappointment. We used to stay here all the time and loved it. Let's just say it's nothing like it used to be. The beautiful landscaping that used to make it so inviting is gone. They have it stripped down to the bare dirt with silly metal sculptures sitting on the bare dirt.
Inside the room, all the surfaces (doors, door facing, walls) are filthy. And the bathtub/shower corners are thick with mildew. They put a non-slip bath mat in the tub but I wouldn't touch it because it was covered with mildew as well. And the walls had holes in the plaster and looked like it hasn't been touched up since it's last remodel in the 90's.
The things cleaned by the maid were good. Toilet, sink and bathtub were clean. Beds were clean and linen were clean and comfortable. The issues appear to be with the ownership and not wanting to put any money into the property. It's very sad. We've been staying there since the early 90's. But this may have been our last stay for a while. Deer Haven used to be my PG happy place. But not any more.
