First of all, all the facilities are well-equipped, and the furniture is space-efficient and practical. Everything you need is sensibly located. However, if you are over 165cm tall, even the double bed is too small to turn over, and above all, it is too noisy. I couldn't sleep properly because of the noise of people in the cafe right below and the bar across the street eating and drinking until 4am. (And the occasional ambulance passing by.) If you don't mind all the noise, it's worth staying. Lastly (as is the case with all of Cologne), the distance from the tram stop is ambiguous. It's too far to walk, but if you take the tram, it's not much of a difference, and if you walk a block or two, you'll almost always be close to your destination.

Very comfortable and clean hotel! We were greeted with friendly faces and the cage next door was wonderful! Tapas restaurant across the road was perfect for drink upon arrival!!

We stayed at the Chelsey for 2 nights and I could not sleep. The people at the restaurants below were very loud and there were cars outside honking in the middle of the night

Very nice hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. The area is very nice, lots of small restaurants and bars. They could have provided a better chair in the room so people could work comfortably.

We stayed one night and it was really comfortable and clean

Very friendly service in all levels, however it felt a bit unorganised. They should definitely pay attention to cleanliness and presentation to the open areas and carpets ( full of stains, also in our room). We stayed in room 55. The electric blinds were not working. Other than that, bed was very comfortable and the room, a part from the carpet and dirty windows and not working blinds, was clean.

For an inexpensive hotel the Chelsea is to be cheerfully recommended. Rooms were comfortable and clean if a bit barren. I liked that I could control the heat in each of the rooms. There's no lobby to meet friends but there is a cafe on street level that seems to be part of the hotel and is very handy. They serve delicious food and are very friendly as are is the hotel staff. A good deal all around.

Booked a single room. Very small with single bed. Didn't realise when i booked but it had a shared bathroom. There was only one bathroom containing both shower and toilet so at one point i couldn't use the toilet as i had to wait for someone to stop showering. Not ideal.

The parking was offsite and a 5 minute walk away. It caused some confusion as to how to access it.
There was a party at the hotel restaurant on the Saturday night which went on till 2am although the reception said it would end at 1am when I asked just after midnight.
I spoke to the manager in the morning and they were apologetic and arrange for a free breakfast. Staff were friendly and understanding.
Really enjoyed the stay, however, the sound of the party and construction in the morning meant I didn’t get much sleep.

While not a fancy hotel, the Chelsea is full of character and history if you are interested in art at all. Cologne was a big art center in the 80s and this hotel was at the center of it. So if you’re into that kind of thing, it’s a nice bit of history. Rooms are clean, service is matter of fact, breakfast is decent (the buffet is not the vast spread one might be used to at other German hotels). All in all, a nice and interesting place to stay. The area around it is nice, and in walking distance to most places. Cologne is a small town after all.

Comfy hotel in a quiet area (although central). A bit expensive for the location, but overall great and clean.

I love this hotel, I got rooms with small terrace with great view of the neighborhood. The restaurant downstairs is nice too. The only bad thing is probably the noice people make on the street during night time due to that area is near bars... but it doesn’t bother my sleep as the noice is not that loud

The hotel is very well located, however rates and extra services are super expensive for what would be included in hotels in other cities. The staff isn't overtly friendly - travelling with a child didn't mean that a member of staff would have held the door when we were arriving/departing with tons of bags. The rooms were good overall.

My room (number 15) was a non-smoking single on the first floor. This room is right above the cafe with an outdoor seating area. In the late evening (11 pm and later still) there were many people seated in the outdoor area and smoke from their cigarettes permeated my room, even though the windows were shut. The street noise from cars and party goers was constant throughout the night, tapering off at around 3:30am.
The next day the very nice front desk person gaven me the opportunity to move to the room nextdoor (room 16). This was a nice gesture and appreciated. Although that room smelled sour and at 6:30 am a fan turned on below my bed causing a constant noise through my pillow.
This would not be such a problem in the winter when less people are sitting outside. The Hotel is located on a busy street and there are lots of people and cars that the hotel has no control over. If you are a heavy sleeper this will not be an issue. If not, you should ask if any of the single rooms do not face the street. I visited at a time when the hotel was sold out. Both my rooms (15 and 16) faced the street.

Clean and friendly and easy walk to Rudolfplatz station. There is a lovely Cafe restaurant attached to this hotel with roadside seating in the summer. A great place to eat and drink the local beer. I stayed in a great top floor duplex room.

We stayed as a family of 4 - 2 parents with 2 sons aged 20 and 17. The parents had a large room with large bathroom (#41) on the fourth floor overlooking Jülicher Street. This street is busy in the morning - lots of delivery trucks, people talking, crashing and banging. After the first night, we got used to it, but given it was hot when we were there, we had the windows open at all times. The bathroom was large and well equipt. It was sparcely but tastefully furnished leaving lots of room for us and our stuff, as well as our sons to visit from their room. They had a very small room with 2 twin beds and very tight bathroom - you could barely close the shower door as it swung in. Luckily our boys are very slim! The window looked over the back of the hotel - not as attractive, but quieter.
The only complaint we had was that the wifi was really only effective if you sat in the hallway between the bedroom area and the bathroom (still within the room). Once you moved to the bed or desk, it would cut out and you'd have to reconnect in the hallway. We must have signed in about 20-40 times per day with our room number, name and date of check-out.
This hotel also has a restaurant which we ate at the first night. It was good, but there are so many choices in the neighbourhood as well as closer to the city centre that we only ate here once in our 6 days in Cologne.
Overall, a lovely place.

The entire staff were wonderful and made every effort to accommodate our special requests. They were all so nice and helpful. The location is near the university so the neighborhood is lively and full of students. The rooms on the top floor (5th floor)seem to be the most recently renovated and also have the best natural sunlight and a good view of the area.We would definitely stay here again on a future visit.
