In my opinion, the facilities are not five stars, but the service is superb. Everyone tries very hard to make your stay great.

Super friendly staff, beautiful and quiet gardens. You can easily walk to the city center

A great ambience in a beautiful setting. Convenient access and good parking. A most knowledgeable and helpful concierge. Food choices excellent. We felt very comfortable and well looked after.

The stay here was wonderful. The receptionist when we arrived was super welcoming and showed us around really professionally. Everyone we spoke to was really nice and couldn't have done more. We loved our trip to Madeira and had the most incredible holiday, and a lot of this was because we got to come back to Quintinha Sao João in the evenings. The food in their restaurant by the way was also incredible and a really good price for what you get. We also felt very welcomed as a gay couple and didn't feel like we being treated differently to anyone else, which we of course really appreciate. This is the first holiday in a while where I can safely say that I'll be returning soon!

Excellent service, beautiful garden views and great breakfast. The only negative was that the hotel was a bit dated and just in the middle of refurbishment(outside?).

The staff were so lovely and their service was excellent. The condition of the building and decor could do with some updating, it is very tired.

The property is very quiet, even if it is still walking distance to the city center, and you can fell the charm of a boutique hotel. The staff is friendly and super helpful, and I really felt like I was at home. The room was very spacious, comfortable and had this lovely balcony overlooking the gardens.
The breakfast had a great variety, and the lunch we had by the pool was delicious! I recommend everyone to try on of the cocktails at the bar. The Passion Fruit Mojito is unbelievable!
I will definitely stay there again in my next trip to Madeira!

DO NOT COME‼️‼️⛔⛔⛔⛔
This place is a border line fraud. It might be a 5star Motel, NOT a 5 star Hotel.
I also, fell into the trap of good reviews on Google maps and Hotels.com. Their photographer should get a pulitzer prize because the hotel does NOT look like the photos.
We booked 5 nights and left after 2 nights because it was SO bad. They did not want to refund anything but the stay was so horrible we left even if it meant loosing a ~3 nights/~600$.
Just some of the nuggets we had during our stay:
-The place is OLD and not in a good way. Furniture and all infrastructure are have not been updated since hotel was built (90s?). They did zero upgrades since.
- Nothing to eat for breakfast. Better food in McDonald's breakfast. No food for vegan people - we come to 5star places because they accommodate for all kinds of food restrictions - not this place (their response - "sorry. Chef is not here today" - what??)
- last day room smelled like a sewer. I'm not exaggerating. Real, strong, distinct sewer smell like in a dark water treatment facility
- AC from the 80s. Makes noises at night. You have a choice: stop sweating or sleep
- dogs and wolves crying each night outside of the window at 1AM (I admit, not their fault)
- only met one nice staff person throughout the whole stay
- all furniture, tiles in bathroom, shower taps - everything is in old or broken state. You can't cover up sh*tty upkeep and call it an "old style hotel"
Great 3star hotel, not 5!

Definitely five stars. Beautiful place with a nice bar and friendly staff. The only con I can think of is that the Wi-Fi didn’t work in our room. There was a piano player, two pool areas, two bars, a restaurant and game room and a gym. Everything you need, and easy walking distance to the rest of Funchal

Splendid, good food but white wine could be chosen better

Great place, amazing 28 degrees inside pool, great service, beautiful bar and garden BUT the rooms are not sound-proof. The hotel was empty and I was put next to a room with a baby that cried all night. I was not expecting a as poor rooming from a 5 stars hotel. Also the restaurant is very bad and the location is very close to a main road so it is noisy.

The Staff are so friendly and helpful. Premises very clean. Very Covid Aware - Disinfectant Dispensers outside Bar,Restaurant and at lots of other locations. The Food was exquisite. Breakfast selection excellent and so well cooked. Didn't visit the Spa or Pool so can't comment.Bit of an Uphill Hike from the seaside so if you're not that fit I would recommend Taxi from Town.

Lovely hotel which is classically styled. Doesn’t perhaps come with everything a modern 5* offers (Eg no room slippers) but would still recommend

Attractive house and gardens with good facilities, friendly staff and a super concierge! Located about 15 minutes from the centre of Funchal with a courtesy bus available for those unable to cope with the hills (otherwise, good cardio vascular exercise!). A good cooked or continental breakfast and pleasant restaurant catering for light lunches an a la carte evening menu which includes Goan specialities. Would happily return again.

The staff were very friendly and always helpful. Good location just 10 to 15 minute walk from the centre of town with all its restaurants and bars. Hotel was clean and comfortable would definitely stay there again.

This property is located about 20 minutes safe walking time from old town attractions. The hotel of about 30 nice rooms itself is secluded and pleasant. There really are no competing ocean front hotels with a beach. It has a large indoor, and a large out door pool, plus spa and game room and several indoor and outdoor bars. The hotel restaurant is excellent. The morning buffet is large, though table coffee service, critical to me, can be slow. Rooms are large and well appointed, Most have a balcony. I would stay here again.

Staff were accommodating and helpful.
Room was clean.
Shuttle service was very prompt.
Just minor issue with the bath tub. Doesn’t drain quickly enough.
Tv was dark so I never really watched.

First time in Madeira and we happened upon this really lovely hotel about 15 minutes walk up the hill from the centre of Funchal. We were struck by how friendly the staff were in every part of the hotel. Most of the clientele seemed to have visited many times before. We would be happy to stay here again in the future. Our ground-floor room was quiet, clean and very spacious, with a seating area and a balcony. There are two pools and a nice outdoor bar/cafe area, and a terrace for evening drinks from a decent cocktail menu. It is reasonably priced with a happy hour and one evening with complimentary drinks hosted by the hotel manager. We also ate in the hotel restaurant a few times. They have a nice mix of traditional Madeiran food and Goan influences - the vindaloo was really nice. On our last night we had the tasting menu which had some excellent dishes such as the fried bacalao and venison with a bacon crumb. The Quintinha also has a rep wholl make reservations and things like hire car bookings for you. This was really helpful for us as we hadnt really booked anything from our shortlist of activities. Rosie put our ideas into a sensibly order and sorted everything out for us. Thank you Rosie! We felt very welcome and would love to return to the Quintinha. I dont think I could fault it!

The location its nice but the hotel itself not really... I didnt like the idea of paying another extra to have access to the SPA, this after booking a suite (not cheap one).
