Hotel is conveniently located in West Village in a nice and quiet neighborhood. Very close to Meatpacking and the start of High Line Park.
The hotel is currently (Dec 2024) undergoing renovations. Shared bathrooms and showers. There was a weird smell in the hallways. Room was tiny (5 sq m / 50 sq ft), bed was uncomfortable. You can hear someone watching TV several rooms away as the doors are old and don’t insulate against sound.
I hope the hotel will feel nicer once renovated. Right now it’s not worth $200 per night.

I love this hotel. I wish there were more amenities like a vending machine and washing but I’m sure they’re working on it.
I love the rooms cause I feel like I’m on a ship. Brian at the desk is too cool! 😎 nice guy and a great voice

I knew the hotel was old, so I expected some of its charm to come from its age. However, the experience turned out to be disappointing. While the vintage feel was part of the appeal, the musty smell throughout the premises made it hard to enjoy. The lighting was poor, which added to the uninviting atmosphere. The room was excessively small, and the mattress springs squeaked loudly at the slightest movement. Noise from other rooms and the hallway was also a constant disturbance, making it difficult to relax. On top of that, the bathroom was not as clean as it should have been, which further detracted from the experience. Overall, despite being prepared for an older property, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

After a long day, I could not find the parking garage. Even though it had nothing to do with this hotel, a representative stayed on the line with me and walked me through how to find it from where I was. I don’t think I’ve ever had a hotel representative go out of his or her way like this. I really appreciated it.

Regardless to the construction that they were going through, the staff is very friendly, and the hotel was very cozy! just like the pictures!

Worst hotel experience ever - I never write reviews. The hotel should not be open. It is under total renovation - you have to enter through the basement and use the freight elevator to get to your room. Most of the floor is sealed off due to construction, so in the main entrance, lobby, ballroom, sitting areas, cafe, and so on. The bathroom that we were able to use is in need of repair and tiles are missing and it was very dirty. This is nothing like the Jane of old, don't stay here

The only reason I am marking The Jane poorly for comfort is to alert other travellers that the single beds are very short indeed. If you are close to or above 6 foot tall maybe go elsewhere. I am 6’2” or 1.9m and it was not a restful night. Otherwise I honestly liked the place. Just don’t be tall!!

I love this little gem I just discovered.
Lots of much needed renovations happening but still a gem.
I slept like a baby here.
I’m staying again this coming weekend
It’s a bit of a walk to the closet subway station but the neighborhood is so lovely and quaint you don’t realize it

Great! stay the smallest bunk rooms are very small but they're the cheapest around and we were barely in the room as we were out and the world. Staff was great and very helpful.

About an 8 minute walk from the subway. Hotel is easy to locate. Very kind reception staff. One elevator. I stayed here on a slightly warmer, rainy weekend. Most of the hotel had a bit of a musty odor to it. Not sure if that was because of the weather or if that’s typical. Room electricity is controlled by key which unfortunately meant that the air had to sit still while I was out all day. There is a powerful, loud fan in the room and a weak air conditioning unit. Bathrooms are clean and have a college dorm feel. Two toilets, two sinks, and two showers for an entire floor of 30 or so rooms but fortunately I never had to wait. Don’t forget your shower shoes! Overall it’s definitely worth the price being one of the more reasonably priced hotels in the city and if all you need is a bed and a shower then this is a fine accommodation. I felt very safe in this property.

The hotel is under construction. The staff helped with several issues...some with the room...some with myself. I was delighted with the help.

Overall, this hotel is so bad. The rating was overrated, the pictures are so misleading. The surrounding area is nice but there is a noisy construction site in front of the hotel. The hotel is also in renovation so it's super ugly. My room smelled so bad, smelled like somebody's sweat. So overpriced. The only good thing was the staff.

It's under renovation and paying $200 was just too much.

The hotel was under heavy heavy construction (all floors and lobby). You had to walk through active construction zones with exposed wiring and workers installing drywall to get to your room. None of this was disclosed at time of booking. Unsafe and a terrible experience.

They should have shut the place down during construction. It was creepy there. I met a woman who said it was charming a couple of years ago. Not now. But staff is nice.

This is not even a one Star hotel. You are basically homeless if you stay there. I will exagerate so you can see the big picture....
You are better off sleeping on the subway than staying there.

I didn’t realize the hotel, where I have stayed at in the past and LOVED, was under almost complete construction until after the booking was made. I was in a bind and needed a cheap stay so I went with something familiar, and confess I didn’t have time to research. The place really shouldn’t be open, nor should it be charging as much as it does given the immensity of the construction. On the plus side I was in desperate Wed to check in early as I was teaching a webinar Ahmed was a life saver and worked it out with the cleaning staff. Am very excited to return once the work is done.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION
4.0 / 10.0
The construction makes this hotel so not cute. I imagine it was a great spot before this started but it’s far from inviting at the entrance and only until you get off the elevator is it truly what you see in the photos, covered by plastic. Nothing bad, and the construction was only during the week and thankfully I stayed Saturday night, BUT the notice of construction is only sent to you after booking.

It was under construction, but reasonable price and clean room. If you can fit in a small bed, it is good.

Be aware: this hotel looks nothing like the pictures right now. They might inform you about ongoing improvements and expected construction works, but this hotel IS A CONSTRUCTION site. While construction workers wear full protective gear, you are on your way to your room or bathroom passing by a full construction site, which looked quite hazardous to me (also you share your bathroom with dozens of construction workers - all day long).
The staff has always been friendly - I rather question the decision of the management.
If I would have known the full extent of the communicated “renovations” I would have paid the 20$ extra per night to get a proper room at a normal hotel.

This property is currently under renovation. While they notify customers to expect noise during construction hours, they do not share the fact that the entire building is a full on construction zone, including directly outside the rooms and in the hallways. There are many awful smells related to the construction permeating the building, It is absurd that the place is still charging customers full price during a time the hotel should simply be shut down. Avoid if you can!

It smelled like someone was smoking something in one of the rooms on my hallway.

location and minutes from subway, however construction was a factor in my dislike. Desk was helpful and bellhop very helpful as well.

Property is a mess. Room expensive and horrible. Construction early in the morning.

The term “you get what you pay for” has never been more true. The entire hotel was under constrution, you you have to enter through the basement. There are tarps and temporary lights everywhere. The room was so small that I thought I was on a train. The bathroom, down the hall, was clean but in the morning it was a little hectic with morning attitude. No one was happy to be there. I was there for 3 nights and my room was never cleaned and my bed never made. Thankfully, there was no construction noises and the hotels location was perfection. Just go in expecting the bare minimum.

This property is currently undergoing major restoration, which I didn’t know when I booked but they did tell me before I arrived. But the extent of the works is unbelievable. The lifts don’t work, there is one shared bathroom on my floor and everything is dusty. The email said works would be strictly 8-4, but this was not the case.
There’s no amenities, not even bottles of water.
It was fine but It is not worth $170usd per night.

They are doing a great job to keep operating during construction both in the building and on the block.

After you pay for your room, they let you know the property is under construction. The Entire property. Look, the staff are good and the rooms are what you expect for old sailors quarters. It’s kinda cool. But the pics of the common spaces to lure you into thinking you’re staying in a very unique, bohemian hotel are gone. All floors including the lobby are completely decimated. Construction starts at 7am. And it’s full on jackhammers and drills while you’re sleeping. The hotel shouldn’t be in operation. It’s a bit of a con job by the new ownership. But hey, if none of that bothers you, go for it.

I knew coming in that The Jane was undergoing renovations. And I got an amazing price. The staff was very attentive. The room was quite cozy and the shared bathrooms spotless. I can’t wait to see what The Jane will look like after the renovations. Again, the staff were sooooo great and I got huge value from staying here.

The service was great and the room was as advertised (small, but clean and with room for what you need as solo traveller.
There was, however, a complete overhaul of the hotel going on so the hotel is crawling with construction workers who start at 7 AM in the morning and are not especially quiet. I was up at that time, so no issue for me.
I would say that it is a good value for money, but would think its way better when the renovation is done.

The hotel is alright, but was undergoing significant renovations during my stay, the hotel was essentially a construction site. The carpenters used our toilets and occasionally occupied the elevator, forcing me to walk through a dusty stairwell (also occupied by carpenters wearing facemasks). There was no kind of compensation or consideration for this nuisance. Nevertheless, my basic needs were satisfied.

The hotel cancel my booking, don't let me check in,it was a terrible experience. The Expedia customer service not contact hotel reception successfully .
