Its a heritage property in a very nice area of Darj. However, the property is poorly maintained and it has musty smell in the rooms. Also the plumbing and maintenance is wanting in the rooms.

Approach from front office personnel was very casual and not customer friendly.
Room key was kept at Reception for cleaning and when returning back, did not find the Goggles kept on the table in the room itself.
Reported to reception immediately around 4 pm on the same day but they send the House keeping staff to us who simply denied for obvious reasons.
Reception personnel did not bothered to inform us about their enquiry if any in the matter or It May be that the complaint was just ignored by sending the person concerned to us.
We did not gave the keys for remaining days of our stay as I had lost my trust over the personnel therein.
Definitely, I will share this incident if anyone ask about the hotel.

Overall a good experience, The property was amazing and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner menu and quality of food preparation can be improved further but these are surely not a show stopper. The property is at a walkable distance from Mall road, Kaventers etc

I liked everything about this hotel but the BEST part was the amazing service rendered by the staff - way beyond the call of duty!

The Elgin provided comfort and wonderful, helpful service in a grand old building. It is perfectly located in Darjeeling. At dinner a very out of tune piano was played and it was quite awful sorry to say. The food was not as good as our previous visit with a sameness of flavour between dishes. We had a lovely two night stay.

We enjoyed our stay at the Elgin. It was comfortable and our room was charming and unique (Rm 57 was part of an annex on the third floor, all wood ceiling and floors). The hotel feels like an oasis within Darjeeling city. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. We stayed at the hotel for Christmas, so it was cold, and the hot water bottles at night were a nice touch. Dinner was very good and a nice variety (Indian menu was far better than western) with good service. However, the bathroom flooded our first night because the pipes were clogged. The bar was quaint but not very well stocked and service was not very good. The front desk was not very knowledgeable about the city and did not provide good service. The Christmas celebration (bonfire and a cultural show) wAs not worth the money (included one glass of wine, bufffet dinner, and no real Christmas themed program). I would recommend staying here, but just set your standards a little lower, even though the hotel bills itself as a much classier place than it really is.

This is a lovely hotel with reflections of the Raj. Comfortable lounges, open fires, good sized rooms, some with spectacular views. The food is well prepared if fairly standard cuisine for this area. Convenient for Chawrastra Mall and the bazaar.
4.3
room had magnificent view over valley. The afternoon tea service could be improved, but this is at least existent
4.3
Hotel rather faded and service not as good as the 3 other Elgins we stayed in. Buffet food good but although breakfast was supposed to be from 7am no buffet was available before 7.30 and it seems we had to wake up serving staff (even though the manager was aware we wanted breakfast at 7).
4.3
the only problem was that we went when it was cold and they did not do enough to warm us up , they tried but they could have done better
4.3
We had a great time there. Staff were very polite. Food could have been a little better. Piano player at the dinner was very good. There were no any facilities for the infant children. They couldn't provide baby cot and a high chair at dinning for my 13 months old child which was very disappointing. They should be prepared for all type of guest not only adults. The lounge was amazingly beautiful and aspisious. Overall a very good experience but for the above reasons I didn't feel it was worth a money which is sad to say because we really liked the hotel otherwise.

Enjoyed my stay at Darjeeling coz of this heritage hotel which gives a royal feeling

Hotel is great but staff brought down our experience. After an amazing experience at norkhill branch, we expected similar service. Went down for a drink at 9.30, the bar was supposed to be open till 10, but the manager said there was hardly anyone around therefore the bar was closed. Next night, I asked for dinner in the room but got an answer that there were too many guests so please come down for buffet, no room service. But the bar was open for one foreigner. Ditto for breakfast next morning. I had asked for a car to go to airport, but it did not show up for almost 45 mins. When I asked to call again, The frontdesk guy became loud and started cutting my sentences off. I walked out to get a taxi from the nearby taxi stand. I have a feeling that foreigners will get a different experience. The power of colonial spirit.

Great hotel with lots of old school charm. The first day we had a beautiful room but not much of a view. As soon as we asked the manager, he promised to move us to a room with a view the next day (after some rooms became available). The room change happened while we were in one of the comfortable lounges looking outside and having Darjeeling tea and biscuits. The staff was incredibly helpful with everything and the food was excellent (we had breakfast and dinner included). There was even a small spa with a talented masseuse who helped us de stress at the end of the day. I recommend this highly.

Awesome place.

Charming hotel with excellent and attentive staff, situated within a stones throw from Darjeeling's mall.
Rooms are well equipped and even during the bitter winter, they are kept comfortable by providing in room heaters and hot water bottles arrive along with the turn down service.

Nice heritage hotel. Very well maintained, by putting all efforts to maintain its orginality. No regrets for staying in this hotel. The only negative aspect was fixed menu - and had no option of deciding according to youir taste buds

4 friends have had a fabulous great weekend here for 2 nights. A piece of tranquility in a most beautiful magical town.
The bonus was seeing the grand mountain. .. But our stay here was also a highlight. Highly recommend.

This hotel is really a heritage property, which means there are some stairs involved; however, the quality of service and the comfort of the rooms is incredible. The restaurant is OK, but not spectacular, in terms of food quality, but the rest of the hotel service is above reproach.

- Heritage hotel. Extremely posh and probably outside the main Darjeeling city 15-20 years back with several celebrity guests. Today however, it is in the heart of Darjeeling city. Consequently, disturbance due to city traffic, especially peak hours (e.g. 4-7 pm). * FOOD: Standard mix of Western food with Indian dishes. Very well made. * SERVICE: Very friendly and helpful.

The Elgin Hotel is a wonderful oasis providing a chance to experience luxury and exceptional service. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to treat themselves. Darjeeling is a wonderful town and our stay at The Elgin enhanced our experience of this amazing place. The hotel has furniture and surroundings that give you an insight to how the 'Raj' was lived. The rooms are all fabulous with a great Hot Water Bottle service when cold and the fire in your room can be light should you want it! Oh the beds are so comfortable we didn't want to get up in the morning!

Stayed 9 nights over Christmas and New Year 2012/13. Hotel is old style, but very comfortable. Weather was cold, so fan heaters in rooms are not great and they dry the air too much. Food, included in the room rate, was excellent. Waiting and cleaning staff are very friendly and good. Hotel was in great condition, old world and very relaxed. Grounds are well kept and staff are extremely helpful. The hotel owner and manager were gracious in their assistance and advice. Wi-fi free in the lounge areas; no internet in the rooms.
4.3
Absolutely lovely stay. Service was excellent and the meals were fantastic. The room was perfect.
