Everything was perfect

The staff was very nice and very helpful. The views of the beach and ocean from the hotel and our room were amazing. Even though it was far away, we could see whales out in the ocean from our balcony! The beach was only a short walk away. The breakfast was great. The common spaces were really nice and comfortable. We stayed at 7 different hotels, all very very nice, in our almost 3 week trip of South Africa, and our room here (the Southern Right Suite) was one of the best. Very large with a cool bathroom. Hermanus is a very nice town with spectacular scenery.

What a fabulous find. This is a private villa with 5 beautiful rooms. It is a short walk to the nicest part of Grotto beach, gorgeous sand and very few people. In our opinion much nicer than staying in downtown Hermanus and only a 10 minute drive. The service was outstanding and breakfast first class and cooked to order. There are 3 dining spots we tried within a 5 minute drive all different, great value and nice food. Dutchies (on the beach), Lizettes and Hobside Down (great pizzas). Never normally rate accommodation but this was exceptional. Thanks to the amazing team!

Lovely setting on Grotto beach but atmosphere was soulless and indifferent.

Fantastic hotel in the heart of the town centre. Incredible service, even picking us a takeaway breakfast box for our early flight. Room was a little small, but everything else was exceptional.

My husband and i were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary whilst on this trip. The guest house was very modern but a building doesnt make your stay....... the welcome we received was abrupt and we were left to carry our bags in from the car park around the pool and up a flight of steps. I got the feeling that management must have some serious trust issues, we were asked to sign a disclaimer saying that if we didnt look after our own stuff and something was stolen, it was our own fault..... leading me to believe they couldnt trust their staff. Then when we went into the room, there was a sign that said as guests, we were only entitled to take the complimentary slippers and NOTHING else, what sort of guests have they had in the past? Thieves?
Breakfast was a disaster. The man that took our order got both breakfasts mixed up. We got 2 different menus. I had requested gluten free bread and when i asked to confirm it was, the man just kept saying "no it free, no charge" all through breakfast. Both my boiled eggs and my husbands poached eggs were hard after having been asked what way we would like them. There was a girl hanging around the breakfast room, like a prison warden, i could not see her purpose because she was equally clueless as the man.
There is no modern technology in the room. Its not 5*. The owner waited until we were checkin out to address our comments. We paid approx £147. for night and got compensated with a bar of soap...

We had a lovely stay -it started with being upgraded to the best room with the most stunning view of the ocean. Room very comfortable and we had a roaring fire in minutes.

I got a special rate when I booked 5 months in advance. I approached the owner on arrival to ask if my husband that is doing the Cape Epic, can stay with me and my two boys in the room. He has a paid for camper van in The Epic rider village, but a room will be much more comfortable. He had to confirm with someone what the rate will be. I went to her an hour later, when she told me she was very upset with the rate I paid through the website and that there are people at the hotel that is paying a lot more than me!!!! What an insult, I have never felt so unwelcome. She also told me that our breakfast is not included, so I showed her my reservation and her response was that she will have to check it first. We also had to wait 40 min for our room. Dinner was served at R375 per head, I asked her if she has something for the kids, she said the steaks are cut the same thickness so the kids will have to pay the same price!!! I think she should remove her little board that kids are welcome. Will never go back to this place. View awesome, owners not.

Eclectic courtyard focused architecture is the big selling point. And proximity to seaside cliff walk. The greeting staff were a bit officious on check in but improved during our stay - but all others very nice. Linda was not there when we stayed. The pool isnt particularly inviting except maybe for kids. Food lovely. Dinner can be had on special order. Rooms fabulous. Views great. Near Dutchies a seaside restaurant that is quite lively and friendly. A drive into Hermanus for dinner (you could walk in I suppose and taxi back out).

Excellent couple of nights stay in march 2017. Wayne the chef was very welcoming as was Linda and Andrew was the star of the show helping me watch an all important football match one particular night. The in house dinner cooked up by Wayne was also first class as is the location which is five minutes from the beach. Worth noting that it is still a car drive from the centre of hermanus which is worth bearing in mind to access bars/ restaurants etc. Very much recommended though.

We had the most lovely time. This was a treat for our young boys - a first time hotel and room service experience! They loved every minute and so did we! The staff are all so friendly and the service we received was amazing! The hotel is so close to the beach and we loved our evening and morning strolls. There were lots of little touches that made it even more enjoyable - a fire in the lounge, snacks in the TV room etc. Well worth the visit. We will definitely be back.

We were 3 friends and we stayed in the Olive Room, which was the only one available. We had a beautiful mountain view, which through not as fantastic as the sea facing rooms, still beautiful! The room is very spacious and the hotel went to a lot of trouble to make all three of us comfortable - there were two single beds in the room and they made up the day bed for the third person. We had a fantastic time, the venue is beautifully decorated, you have a lot of privacy and the staff is friendly and helpful. A short walk through a piece of coastal forest and you are on the Blue Flag Grotto Beach.

Fabulous guest house on beautiful Grotto beach. Warm and cosy, beautifully decorated, excellent staff, the honeymoon suite is incredible with warm and modern bathroom, very large bedroom with an incredible view on Grotto beach and the mountains and the fire place at night is a dream!
We would really recommend this romantic guest house.

Nice views of the ocean and huge rooms. I like big rooms but this one was simply too big! Not very handy for going to dinner if you are not motorized.

Stayed for one night only in their best room (Southern Right)as a treat getaway. Panoramic sea views from large well appointed suite. Well stacked fireplace was appreciated. Only criticism would be the fairly small dressing room area tucked away from bedroom. 5 star service from management and staff including good breakfast.

Mosselberg at Grotto Beach was amazing. Linda and her staff were incredible. The location is in a quiet neighborhood within a two minute walk to the beach and a 5 minute drive to the restaurants. We stayed in the Southern Right room which had floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the bay and the beach. It came with a telescope which we loved having to watch the whales right off the coast. The room was well appointed including the night caps that came with a brief description of and an inspirational quote. We loved the stay and were sorry we didn't book longer. We would give it 10 stars if we could.

Lovely hotel with path down to Grotto beach at the hotel. Very private location. A bit of a drive into the town, which we preferred. Wonderful balcony looking over the ocean. Room spacious and comfortable.

U need to know two things about this before booking: 1. It's beautiful, INCREDIBLY beautiful, absolutely wonderful design, with incredible views of the mountain and the ocean. 2. It's a drive (not a long drive, but a drive) from the center of town, where you view the whales from an elevated clifftop with wrap around views. If you want to stay in town, next to the restaurants and shops, and, most importantly, right next to the whale viewing area (meaning, you want to walk just steps from your hotel to that platform), you should stay somewhere else. That being said, this is one of the best hotel rooms I've ever stayed in. It's like a dream home. Beautiful---the word really doesn't do it justice--outdoor spaces, dramatic views of the mountains and the water.... incredible furniture, beds, bathrooms, two sinks, just super cool. HUGE floor to ceiling windows that you can leave open if you want the ocean air coming in your room at night. super romantic. Big chunky awesome wood dinner table. Handmade food. Parking. My wife and I were only there for less than 24 hours (and only spoke to the staff for five minutes, but immediately liked them, especially the lady cook), but wish we could have stayed at least 2-3 days. Met the staff briefly, they were sweet. We were greeted at the door by the chef, who had floor on her shirt, which was really cute. This is private, removed from town, but luxurious and cool.

This is a beautifully presented private hotel. It's located 7kms from the town centre which is good from a privacy factor but you need to travel to see the whales from the rocks which is the best onshore Viewing location. Our big regret was that we didn't book a second night as we felt we could really unwind and enjoy the Hermanus experience more.Linda (GM) was excellent to deal with. Very professional and helpful.Breakfast was amazing ... Wonderful food, presentation and setting.Room presentation and the little extras are wonderful. Our only complaint was that when we arrived we were told that the chef had been given the night off as we were the only guests staying that night. In seeking a place to stay we wanted an on site restaurant so this aspect of the stay was disappointing. However in summary this was a beautiful place to stay and we would highly recommend staying here.

We were pleasantly surprised on arrival as we were expecting a run of the mill hotel and instead found something rather unique. Right on the beach, fantastic rooms, quiet location away from the main hub. Excellent seaviews, ideally placed for whale watching when in season. Would definitely return.

Stunning modern guesthouse with amazing attention to detail. Beautiful furnishings and works of Africa art contributed to a simply superb stay!
