I had an excellent stay at the Hostel. All the staff and all the people who belong to the establishment, treated me very well at all times and provided me with all the services, I am very grateful to everyone. I hope to return to Cairo soon and stay here again. Excellent Hostel

I stayed at Meramees Hostel for almost a month. The truth is that I have found all good things, all the people who work and collaborate for the hostel are excellent, they treated me very well from the beginning to the end and provided me with all the services. I hope to go back to Cairo and stay again in this fantastic place. I am very grateful to everyone, my stay has been excellent!

The room and bathroom were clean. The manager is friendly and helpful. They upgraded my room. Overall it was a very good stay.

Recommended. Nice hotel, good location and the staff were very helpful. I would definitely stay here again if I'm in Cairo.

I stayed there for 3 weeks. There are at least 4 issues which make this place difficult to stay.
The breakfast starts at 8:30, which is inconvenient for all the guests, as it is too late, so many of us pay for it but skip it. The cooking lady is not in rush> A after 40 minutes of waiting (I was the only guest!), I asked about their problem. She began LOUDLY, RUDELY and IN FRONT OF ME discussing me with the other staff saying nasty things about me. I said that it was unappropriated and never ate thereafter. They do not care and did not reimburse the cost of my breakfasts (I asked for this).
The second issue: the front desk ladies are unprofessional: they never greet guests. Nada, the daughter of the owner of the hostel, is constantly stuck into her phone and speaks to all the guests as if they are dust under her feet.
The third: a complete absence of any flexibility. Once they receive your money, you will never see them. When I arrived at the hostel, my plans changed, and I asked about moving a checking out date TWO weeks before the original termination, but the owner refused saying that he "would lose."
The fourth: a bare min. is invested into maintenance, and whatever is done, is done awfully. For instance, the screws that they used for putting a bed together, are sticking out for abut 7 cm. I damaged my leg so bad, that it is healing till now, and I hope that there would be no permanent ugly scar there!
No wonder, such things happen with such an attitude to the guests!

The receptionist Ahmed, a young guy, was very helpful and pleasant. Although bathroom is shared, it was always clean. Located in downtown Cairo, within walking distance of Tahrir square.
Great value for the money.

The location is prime close to the tahrir square and the Egyptian Museum. Many local restaurants in the block behind the hotel. If you want to try local cuisine there is plenty to choose from.
The Reception staff was helpful and provided great service.
The Hotel/Hostel is on the 5 and 6th floor in a building that feels strange walking into. Entry floor of the building is dark and dusty with a bench that makes you wonder where you arrived. 1st floor looked deserted with a door with arabic letters and an open window overviewing a broken house facade, 2nd floor news tv channel, 3rd floor investment in touristic real estate, 4th floor Sinai hotel and dive center, 5th floor is reception of the Meramees hotel.
Walking the steps up the building there is many question if you are at the correct location.
The room was great, I had the double bed room with en-suite bathroom. Great room for the price!
Solid breakfast with falafel and omelette
The only drawback is the elevatorshaft outside the window. in the hallway there is two toilets for the dorms and rooms without toilet and unfortunately during my visit one was broken and continues flushing all night.

Overall, I had a positive experience. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room itself was clean and well maintained, which was much appreciated. If you're looking for a budget-friendly option in the area and want to be near the Museum of Egypt, this hostel is definitely worth checking out.

Thankyou very much Meramees hostel. Gladly we found a good place to stay. The hostel was so cool with a classic and nostalgic vibes but a little bit hard to find the hotel with no big sign n it was located in front of big road so there’s so many car at that time. But overall, the stuffs the the room the breakfast the amenities the internet is good. Keep it great til the end 👍

Location was good for downtown Cairo. But hard to find at first. The hostel was on the fifth floor of a building, and the sign on the street was not very obvious at first. The room was big and seemed clean. The bathroom, down the hall was sub-par, but it worked. I asked for some clothes to be washed; when I got them back there was still an unpleasant smell...they didn’t seem too clean. The WiFi was pretty bad and the “included breakfast” was below average too. It was fine for 1 night, but nothing was to rave about.

Great location in downtown Cairo – we had a room in the wing opposite the reception and it was quieter than the other side. A lot of shops and great, not expensive local restaurants in the area, close to metro stations, short walk to Egyptian Museum. The room was clean, spacious and bright. The breakfast was very good – a mix of continental and local (I prefer the latter), and the coffee was BIG :) The staff was super helpful and kind. On the first night we were placed in a different room than we actually booked (worse one), but on the next day moved to a proper room. That's a detail, but I wish we could stay in our room straight away – it would make our experience perfect. It's a good quality for the money, although for that price you can choose from many options in downtown Cairo. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would come back to Meramees Hostel again.

It's located in the near the national museum and all walking distance to most of major attractions. Egptyion breakfast was delicious and shower water pressure is really good. Highly recommend for budget travellers.

Affordable yet accomodating staff and comfortable rooms. Staff can speak english. The location is great as its near the metro, the Egyptian museum and easy to find a taxi. They also arrange tours.

The staff is very friendly, helpful and fun. They recommended some things for us to do and helped us arrange a tour to the pyramids and a Nile dinner cruise. The hostel is right in busy downtown Cairo and very close to many tourist destinations and cafes as well as some big shopping streets.
Our room was basic and clean with a small balcony and a city view.
They serve a nice continental breakfast in the morning.
This is a great place to stay for budget travellers looking to be in the heart of the city.

On arrival at accommodation said they did not yet have our booking confirmation as we had only booked a couple of hours before. They asked us what room we had booked. We told them a room with a private bathroom. After sometime and a couple of calls the guy on reception said we had only booked a double room with shared bathroom. Without our own confirmation we could not show him otherwise. Instead of a room with a double bed, private bathroom, and balcony, we were given a room with 4 single beds, shared bathroom and a window. We received a copy of our booking confirmation later that day and presumed the accommodation did as well. Instead of changing our room the guy on reception asked my husband to pay him a tip for giving us a room with a view, meaning it had a window. The room we had been given was huge in size so from that point of view was comfortable. The air-conditioner worked well but the only control was on or off. The shared bathrooms were reasonably clean and the shower pressure was ok. One of the toilets was broken and the other had a cistern that took ages to fill so it often wasn't flushed. The free wi-fi was hit and miss and worked 2 out if the 3 days we were there. The included breakfast was pretty ordinary and was the same every day. The common area was a great place to meet other travelers but was close to reception that always seemed full of locals who were very loud and did not seem to be guests staying at the accommodation.

First things first... You are staying in Cairo, Egypt. My ratings are relevant to WHERE you are in the world. We loved our stay here... Ahmed (the manager) was very helpful booking train tickets, drivers (taxi) and tours; whatever we needed. The price was right, the atmosphere was friendly and the location was fantastic... Only a 5-7 minute walk to the Egyptian Museum. I have nothing but great things to say about this place. In our room, the A/C was good (almost too good, I woke up freezing) and it was clean... Breakfast was simple but sufficient. The wifi was a bit frustrating, but that is a common occurrence in Cairo. If you book with these guys, you won't regret it.

Arrived Tues. 9/10/12 at 21:00, met at airport and driven to Hotel. Room with 3 beds no hanging space except 3 beds. Showered , no hot water, complained to desk, said it would seen to- did not happen for duration of stay. Offered tours, learnt later taxi from hotel priced well above normal taxi hailed from street. Directed to stores with prices well above " market" prices- obviously kick back involved e.g. shirts from recommended dealers 50 pounds after bargaining, 20 pounds from market same quality.
All in all a disappointing stay!
