This is a bed and breakfast in the Killington, Vermont area not far from the main road. The two-story house is set next to a hillside and no other buildings are visible from it. Mike and Barbara, the owners, emailed us about a week in advance of our stay to welcome us and give us directions. They asked us to call when we knew the hour of our arrival.
We arrived in the evening after a good dinner at the
Foundry on Summit Lake in Killington and met Mike and Barbara. Mike helped us settle in the house. We were directed to a room upstairs that had everything we needed and a comfortable bed. The bath was directly across the hall. This was a shared bath but we never saw the other person using that bathroom until we left the next day.
The staircase to our hall and room was narrow and curved. People with disabilities or heavy luggage should request a first floor room if one is available.
In the morning Mike made us an excellent breakfast. I had warned Mike the evening before that my wife needed strong coffee. He made perfect coffee for her—just right.
Mike sat with us at breakfast. He gave us information on how to reach the Appalachian Trail and how to drive to Woodstock, with tips on places to visit and restaurants. The Mountain Valley Retreat is within 200 yards of the Appalachian Trail. We walked the Trail to a falls (Thunder Falls). The Trail in this area is kept up like the treasure it is.
We recommend the Mountain Valley Retreat.

We only stayed for one night as part of a road trip but really enjoyed our stay. The location is great, very beautiful and peaceful with walks close by. Mike and Barb were very welcoming and Mike prepared a delicious breakfast for us in the morning.

We spent one night at Mountain Valley Retreat to attend a wedding. We liked the quiet, the location and the incredible breakfast in the morning. A unique property lends itself well to those who need some time away from the hustle and bustle.

Very well located property with a great view- more a Bed and Breakfast run by an elderly couple who go to great lengths to impress with their breakfast service

The room was clean and comfortable and the hosts were welcoming and attentive. I would suggest the listing be more forthcoming about the shared bathroom and the narrow steep stairs to the rooms. Knowing ahead of time how remote the location is would have minimized my initial concern, since it turned out not to be a problem. I would feel more comfortable if I could have locked the door to my room when I went out. It was only lockable when I was in the room.
On a positive note, breakfast was made to order at a time convenient for me, beautifully laid out and delicious!

Going to be honest, I did not realize that this was a B&B. I saw the location was close to where we were going, the price & the number of good reviews. We got there at almost 11pm & the host was very gracious & understanding. The room was lovely & quiet. Breakfast was delicious. The vibe of the house was very relaxed & cozy. Should we ever be in the area again, we will definitely be staying there again.

Wonderful host at this small b&b! Excellent breakfast, friendly company, walking distance to the waterfall at the Appalachian Trail nearby. This is a beautiful spot in a valley with a stream running through, the access road goes over a little wooden bridge. I really enjoyed my stay!

This was a beautiful home that felt homey. The view from our room was secluded, peaceful and Vermonty (a little brook, trees, untouched snow). Breakfast was delicious. The hosts spent time visiting with us and we had some good discussions.

Take slippers, as no shoes allowed inside and it's on a dirt road. Very nice owner, quiet place close to Killington ski area. Good value.

Mike was absolutely the best host one could ask for. Really kind and caring, an excellent breakfast chef, a string snow shoveler, and most important - friendly :)
We had a fanatic stay and hope to be back!

What a delight! This is the quintessential "mom and pop" bed and breakfast that Vermont is famous for and in a beautiful and serene setting. Mike is an absolute gem of a human being and makes a killer breakfast with the most perfect over easy eggs and french toast I think I've ever had. The room was clean, peaceful and comfortable and I'll definitely be coming back!

The property and grounds were beautiful. The room was clean and comfortable and the couple who runs it were friendly without being intrusive. Excellent breakfast. If you are gong to Killington or Woodstock and want to avoid the ski lodge atmosphere. I highly recommend this place.

Very cute and cozy home in a scenic area. Mike makes an awesome breakfast! There is a very steep set of stairs up to the rooms , so pack light. Small shared bathroom but works for one night. The room was clean, bed super comfortable and WiFi worked great.
There is a beautiful waterfall right down the road. I’d stay again if visiting Vermont area!
Thanks Mike and Barbara.

This is a quiet out of the way place. Clean and comfortable. Hosts were very nice and accommodating. Excellent full course breakfast was served!

Let me start with the positives: Breakfast was good and Mike was engaging. Property is secluded, if that's what you are looking for. Property is decently priced. This property is close to the Appalachian Trail, so I assume it's a popular stay for hikers.
Negatives: Bathroom must be shared with others, which is more like a hostel, than a retreat in my opinion. It was fine during our stay because we were couples traveling together, but still not ideal.
Had to drag heavy suitcase upstairs up a narrow stairwell. A two man operation.
We had to surrender ours shoes as soon as we entered the property, and did not see them until the next morning. We could not take our shoes to our room upstairs.
There was no air conditioning, which is probably fine for 99 percent of the year, but we brought record heat with us, so
it was a bit hard to get to sleep with only a fan.
Our room was extremely small, small TV, not much room
to open a large suitcase. See pics.
We had a number of black ants in our room and bed overnight, luckily they did not bite.
View out our bedroom window was a wooded hillside.

A mountain cabin retreat with very friendly hosts and daily breakfast. Rooms fit your luggage, clothes and your (big) bed. Appalachian trail is close; local towns have plenty to eat. If you need a break from the concrete metro areas, seek no further.

The hospitality, room and breakfast were all first-rate - the breakfast was restaurant quality, with three choices of menu. Mike and Barbara were excellent hosts. Place was hard to find at night...

Barbara and Mike present a unique and beautiful bed and breakfast nestled in the heart of the Green Mountains. My room overlooked a magnificent view and the accommodations were excellent. Mike is an outstanding conversationalist with a wide range of life experiences which added immensely to my overnight stay. If I am ever in the region again, I would surely visit the Mountain Valley Retreat.
