we paid close to $1000 for 3 nights which is excessive for the room ,i think they should not charge any more than $150 a night. needs some upgrading with mattress springs digging in and carpet is very old. Needs some TLC great central spot and food good

Gorgeous old heritage building in a convenient location to the tourist attractions in the old part of town. Spacious room with big window and lovely antique furniture (although mattress was saggy and lumpy). Was disappointed as we had booked and paid for a seafront room but our view was of a building across the street - felt deceptive. It was possible to leave our room, cross a public corridor and go to a roped off area of the balcony (that was accessible to everyone) for a seaview. Bistro downstairs was good with a nice bar made from an old wooden boat. Decent value for money but don't bother paying more for a seafront room.

Loved everything about this place.
Location, meals, wine.
Beautiful old style building and so friendly .

We only stayed the one night which I’m glad. Room 5 had a private bathroom across the hall with a great shower. The room definitely needs a new mattress as it was quite uncomfortable. We had trouble with the kettle and heating as I assume it was because everything was running off one power board for everything in the room. The room did have balcony access but due to the bad weather didn’t get to use it. I would say it needs a bit of updating in the accommodation area as it is looking quite ‘weathered’ however the restaurant at the rear was outstanding. The food was beautiful as were the hosts and it had been renovated.

Location wise the hotel was great and had a great view across the ocean from your room on the balcony.
The bed was just a normal double bed and was fairly uncomfortable and didn’t leave much space for 2 people.
We had also booked for a spa bath room for our stay but when trying to use it it didn’t seem to work at all.
Overall not amazing but a decent stay even if just for the view.

Ceiling fan had dust falling off it- while it was off!!
Mirror frame was also very dusty. Heating was turned on when we arrived, but it was on cool, it was like entering a freezer! Spa jets were also very dirty, and so after specifically selecting a spa room, we decided against using it. We could hear neighbouring rooms using spa, shower and flushing toilet. Overall, not recommending to others and not returning.

Obviously the decor was dated but very clean.
Staff member was lovely- approachable, engaging knowledgeable & helpful.
Real surprise to have complimentary snacks (thank you).
Was looking forward to in house dining but unfortunately was told it was not available during the dates we had booked.
Would book here again if travelling to SA.

Beautiful ocean view and balcony. Bathroom not ensuite (across the hall but reserved for my use only). Very noisy outside at closing time.

Whilst the room was clean, the appointments are tired & dated.
The host was extremely friendly & informative offering travel tips.
The property which is located facing the sea is conveniently walkable to town ammenities & attractions.

The traffic noise in the morning was a touch loud. Otherwise our stay was perfect.

It was great at short notice our room was prepared well and very clean. Great place and close to everything.

The hotel was great except it is advertised as having air conditioning while only some rooms have a/c. Unbeknownst to us on booking, was not one of them and it was 97 degrees so we were unable to sleep. This is the 1st thing I check on all hotels before I book -air con & bathroom so I was quite unpleasantly surprised and I was not the only guest to feel this way

Great position. Beaut balcony over looking the ocean. Very quiet. Heritage hotel. Our room had separate spacious private bathroom across the hall but was no issue.

Classic hotel in an excellent location in Victor Harbor we were very happy with our stay. We’d booked a room with air conditioning but in the event it was quite cool and we didn’t have occasion to test it.
The room was spacious but quirky, with a windowless annex with a single bed in it. Soundproofing wasn’t great, hearing that conversations were going on in a neighbouring room, however the night was quiet and problem free.
The Anchorage is a period hotel and there were a number of areas where updating / redecoration would be beneficial. We were not bothered by this, appreciating the “character” but it is something to be aware of.
We did wonder whether its days as a hotel might be numbered because there were a number of images on display showing a large modern multi-storey block alongside the original building, probably replacing the current newer wing and the car park - but we didn’t ask so don’t know.
Regardless, we would be happy to stay again and if that slightly careworn period character is OK for you then go for it.
As an aside we had dinner in the attached cafe/bar at the back. Very good and definitely recommended.

This was a stop over on a road trip with a mate.
Busy afternoon in the hotel & initially had trouble finding someone to check us in.
One of the least impressive rooms on our roadtrip, especially for the price.
Set up of the room was quite unusual, with toilet on one side of the room & the bathroom on the opposite side of the room, requiring a walk around the main bed to get between the two.
Quite a few pieces of furniture in the room, which made the room feel quite small. Small bathroom & shower & beds were not the most comfortable. At 190cm I had to lay diagonally so that my feet didn't overhang.
The highlight of the hotel was the restaurant. Great atmosphere & food.

Very ran down

Ageing infrastructure in reasonably good condition. Bathroom of necessity very small and lacking hanging space and shelving for personal toiletries. Generous provision of natural herbal wash, shampoo and skin lotion.
Staff member went above and beyond to assist in rearranging room .

Firstly we couldn’t find an entrance into the place, as it was closed. Had to ring to gain entry. Secondly we booked a room on the ground level with sea views. We were given an upstairs room and the “view” was out the door, across the hallway and through another door which was roped off so we got a tiny underwhelming view.
Whoever does the marketing for this place is a genius. What we got as opposed to what we thought we were getting was worlds apart and for the price we paid we have stayed in far superior places for a fraction of the cost. We live and learn.

This hotel was fairly pricey. I expected a much cleaner and more comfortable room. Hotel is very rundown and room was not comfortable. I am always careful about writing bad reviews, but felt it is warranted in this case.

Beautiful old hotel so peaceful and quiet had the best nights sleep in weeks here. The decor is amazing. Felt like you were sleeping in the orient express.
3.0
This is a heritage older style building with older style furnishings and fixtures. The paintwork is chipped in places, the floorboards need repolishing and the carpet needs replacing. HOWEVER- Henry makes it all worthwhile. The spa suite seafront rooms are beautiful and the location is fabulous. The budget rooms are just that - small and quite basic - but in keeping with the spirit of the old days. The restaurant is great. Note the budget rooms have private bathrooms but these are not in the room. So you need to walk down the corridor to open with your key.
