We stayed 2 nights at the Valle Escondido reserve.
The good: beautiful property, serene, great views, focus on sustainability, 5-10 minutes drive to several restaurants. The property has its own hiking trail which includes the forest as well as a free self-guided permaculture tour. For dinner, we had the wood fire pizza which was great. The room was basic, but comfortable.
The not-so-good: the staff is polite but not friendly or warm. Also, the free breakfast is just ok - it surprised us given all the positive breakfast reviews. Not only did they have a limited menu selection, but the portions were small and there was barely any fresh fruit.
Overall a good experience.

We have modified our reservation on Orbitz from two nights to one night several weeks prior to arrival; however when we arrived the hotel had us booked for two nights. It took a while for them to investigate and ultimately they charge us for one night as if it is a favor. Staff is cold and not very friendly. Breakfast that was included in the hotel price was below average with very limit options. Hotel room itself was large and clean, bed was comfortable.

I loved Valle Escondido Nature Reserve Hotel & Farm. The rooms in the hotel are spacious and had great amenities. The walks around the farm and surrounding area were beautiful. The staff and food were great. I also recommend the guided night tour.

Very nice garden for our toddler to walk around and play with toys they provided. Staff very friendly and always ready to help , btw they gave us a free upgrade. The rooms were clean and comfortable , could use a better soundproof for the walls jus as a suggestion. The trails were amazing, but some signs need to be fixed. Overall the experience was truly amazing , we enjoyed our stay , will definitely be back and recommend it.

We enjoyed the restaurant and the surounding areas. It’s nice if you want to get some light hiking in while other members of your family relax. We saw lots of wildlife. It’s in the forest so you will get bugs in your room if you take food to your room.

property view was really nice on the mountain but feels very expensive as this was very basic hotel.

Hotel rooms were very clean, airy, well-decorated, and well-appointed (table and chairs, fridge, lots of hooks and shelving in bathroom). I liked the nice cool concrete floors that didn't get dirty and slippery like the tile floors we found in other hotels. We also loved exploring the trails on the hotel grounds, seeing the wildlife (we saw our first armadillo there), and the breakfast was really delicious. The location was also nice and quiet and isolated, but an easy drive to town. Highly recommend.

Really nice friendly helpful staff.
Breakfast was delicious. Their food is grown on their premises.
There is a very large impressive forest with waterfalls on their grounds for hiking.
Mold in the bathroom. Which seems to be common in CR. But the good news is that since there isn’t AC at this hotel the mold didn’t go into the bedroom. We kept the windows open.
Easy parking lot.
Beautiful open outdoor grass garden area with seats to watch the view from above and see birds and sunset.

We absolutely loved this hotel. Great location with amazing views and fresh food. We were able to set up a yoga class overlooking the ocean and a night hike where we saw all kinds of amazing animals. The staff were very helpful and the hiking trails were well maintained and full of points of interest.

We only stayed one night in between La Fortuna and Tamarindo but we’re glad we did!
Although there were families there with children, everyone seemed to understand that we were in a beautiful place and there was just a happy serene vibe to the bar/restaurant overlooking the gardens, overlooking a lovely view.
As Vegans we chose this place partly for the vegan food where there were a few options which were good. The kitchen also ensured that our breakfast was suitably veganised!
We walked the trails ourselves and these are well signposted and a clear map as to where the viewpoints are etc. The map also highlighted “harder” bits but this really just referred to lots of steps which most people would be able to cope with quite easily.
We did the night walk which was well organised. (4 guides so there was only a small group with each guide). It was actually someone in our group who saw the scorpions and the tarantula on the trail; but our guide was delightful and we all felt quite safe and saw a snake and armadillo too which was cool. The tarantula hawk wasp was also a scary creature to meet, but we all survived!
It is an easy walk into town and short albeit steep uphill walk back. We would recommend this hotel in a heart beat and wished we could have stayed longer.
The room itself was fine, clean, bed comfortable, shower decent.

What a fabulous place - idyllic spot with wonderful food and drinks, great staff and a brilliant ethos. Really child friendly with the lawn where everyone gathered for sunset football every evening! Great hotel, right in the heart of monteverde but with wildlife of their own just walking around the grounds! Five minutes from zip lining etc and the centre of St Elena

This is an amazing property. The focus on permaculture is unique and interesting, and it's located in a beautiful natural area. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of options. The room was comfortable, though two minor comments:
(1) There's no AC, so it got very warm, and
(2) There aren't screens on the windows or door to the patio, so there was no way to leave them open without bugs (and birds) coming into the room.
But overall, we loved staying here and would definitely return!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Valle Escondido. Whether enjoying the hikes on the trails on the grounds or using it as our base for enjoying the Monteverde area, the accommodations and staff were great. Very helpful with our plans for birding there. Fantastic location.

Everything about Valle Escondido was outstanding. The staff were all anxious to help and warm in their greetings. Sian at reception want above and beyond to help us with dinner rest and other recommendations . Carmella’s warm welcome when we arrived set the tone for our whole visit. Rooms were spotless and comfortable. The trails around the property were well maintained, well marked and thoroughly enjoyable. The restaurant had excellent food, from wonderful oven fires pizza, to more traditional foods and tasty desserts. We enjoyed our happy hour cocktails while watching the sunset over the magnificent vista. We would high recommend staying here.

Pros: Location is great, grounds are beautiful and staff is very nice and helpful. Rooms are nicely appointed.
Cons: Bed is small, horrible sewer smell from bathroom, 1-2 inch gap in room door. And had major shower/sink temp issues. We brought it to the attention of the front desk and they said someone would come look at it, but no one ever did. I have a feeling its just a hotel wide issue. The issue was you can only get scolding hot water or freezing cold no in between.
There seemed to be a lot of families with children which is great for families not so great for couples or singles.
Also, I was really looking forward to the yoga they advertised as daily, however when I asked about it at check in they said they currently don't have a yoga instructor.

We had a wonderful stay at the reserve and farm Staff was very friendly. We had great nature walk on the reserve. Food was really good. Best pizza in town , with locally grown veggies.
Great location not far from monteverde cloud forest. And zip line tour.

The hotel sits on a mountainside with fabulous views across rolling hills to the Pacific. It’s set in its own nature preserve with trails to hidden valleys and waterfalls. Save time to go exploring. We woke to the growls of howler monkeys and ate breakfast watching the birds off the terrace. There’s a wonderful lawn with room to play and a secluded hammock garden among the trees. Plumbing in the bathrooms is a little temperamental with scalding hot water. If you book the family kitchen room, which sleeps 4, be prepared for lots of ants.

Hotel property approach road is very very Bad.
The Room was an utter disspointment, Dirty, multicolored and Stinking towels , Cracked Floors , cracked Cups , No TV , No AC , No Heater. Bathrooms felt unclean , old and unmaintained. We all felt cheated for the room rent we were charged. our compaint to the front desk was smirked off.
While our breakfast was Included in the room tarrif , Staff was unfriendly and made us feel as if we were fed for free, refills were charged exorbitent for the quantity served.
Overall , Except for the Nature and trails outside the property everything else inside the rooms is quite shady.
We were given a junior suite at ground floor.

The Nature Reserve is a unique place I have come to experience. Scenic Vista, beautiful trails, hammock garden, unique picnic spots make this hotel second to none for nature lovers. Very comfortable natural stay. The restaurant is only serves the food grown freshly on the Premises. Their sustainable organic farming is unique. Our family loved the place. I don’t mind staying there again.

This propert is very beautiful and unique. The grounds are surrounded by beautiful forest and and an open area with spectacular sunset views that include the Pacific gulf. The food is very good and the clay oven pizzas are fabulous. The staff is friendly and helpful. The room was large and clean with a very nice deck overlooking a garden. This hotel is very environmentally conscious but there is no lack of comfort.
