Staff at Pillars House are really nice and friendly. They provided excellent service and recommendations for where to visit.

Pillars House is a hidden gem, which offers fantastic value for money in a very expensive city. I thought it would be a bit basic, but it offered much more than I expected and the en suite bathroom was a pleasant surprise. We were able to do an element of self-catering using the shared kitchen and everyone we met was very friendly.
Pillars House is located close to the tram line in Edinburgh, which opens up easy access to the city.

Excellent place very confortable

The staff member we say went above and beyond to help us.
4.5
The place is close to public transportation-trams and buses which is the best thing about this place. The property manager, Craig was very helpful and friendly. He also provided some good travel tips. Room was clean and had basic amenities along with coffee and snacks. The only down side is that the walls are paper thin like many places in Europe so it is easy to disturb others and/or get disturbed by them. Caution: There are many steps to get to the room and there is no elevator so be mindful of that specially if you are carrying the heavy luggage.
4.5
Nice place for short stays. Each room has plenty of coffee, tea, and biscuits. You can also use the kitchen where you can find fruit. You have your key to the main entrance.
The reception was fast and cordial. Fully recommended.
4.5
Great stay. We arrived a bit early and the room was ready. Close to a tram stop or about a 30 min walk to princes street. Plenty of shops, cafes and bars nearby.

The host really nice and helpful.

The room was ok, adequate for a couple of nights sleep. The room was clean thr beds were comfy. Coffee making stuff in our room alongside breakfast stuff.
The breakfast stuff were cereal bars, croissants and small cartons of juice, not what we were expecting. You could make use of the large kitchen to make food if you so wanted.
The shower was small however lots hot water there was shower gel, body lotion provided for you.
On arrival to the hotel the door is locked and uou have a ring a bell for the guy to let you in. You are given a key to let yourself in when you left the hotel
The huy we spoke to was very helpful answering the questions we needed to know about the trams/ Edinburgh. The hotel in situated approx 40 minute walk from Princess Street however the trams pass by it and the tram station in approx 2 minute walk from the hotel.

Stay was really welcoming Travelled with kids and stayed for a night and nothing to fault

We were a very last minute reservation as our flight was unexpectedly cancelled. The owners were incredibly welcoming & kind. The rooms are small but cozy & each has an en-suite bathroom. Enormous & well equipped kitchen for all residents to use. Short walk to public transportation.

Very easy to get the Tram to the Royal Mile area. Make sure you get directions to drive to the Pillars House,

The owner is a great guy, really friendly and helpful. The building itself is historical and creates the special authentic atmosphere. We walked to the city center - 40 minutes on foot. A fascinating place!

The person who checked us in was very helpful and the food and drink in refrigerator was nice touch.
However We had a room with 3 beds , for my husband and I and our 14 year old grandson, that was smaller than expected.
It also had a strange smell - like a wet dog.

Love this wee hotel ♥️ it’s like a good old fashioned normal hotel and not like one of the heartless chain hotels where every room looks the same. They don’t serve breakfast and that’s reflected in the price. The fridge in the room has everything you’ll need for a quick coffee in the morning and we found an excellent vegan cafe around the corner for our breakfast.

This was one of the most wonderful stay that we ever had! This is a family-owned hotel! Craig is one of the nicest guys you can ever meet! He greets you kindly and gives you every possible information to help you enjoy your time. The room was spacious and very clean. They provide many snacking options and juice in your room free of charge. You can use the kitchen in common area to warm up food or even cook! Having a free washer and dryer was a triple plus! Thank you Craig! We had such an amazing time with you! Your staff is as amazing as you!

Clean and basic, although slightly dated. Really friendly staff and loved the complementary water, irn bru, juice, and croissants in our room. Tram stop nearby to take you in to Edinburgh, which was great

Could use new mattresses and pillows on bed

We had a comfortable stay here for the night. Craig was friendly on arrival, and it is in a good location to get around by bus or tram.

Very friendly and polite staff, provided nice choice of room with excellent view of Leith sky line and complimentary food and beverage in the fridge. Mostly very quiet and you can hear bird sing if you open the window.

Pillars house was absolutely incredible! We had never been to Scotland before, and pillars house was the perfect place for us. Not only is it in a gorgeous and accessible area of town, but the host, Craig, was incredibly friendly and accommodating. His knowledge of Edinburgh saved us from wandering around looking for the best eats, in fact right when we arrived he sat us down and wrote us a list and marked a map with his favourite spots. Pillars house was truly the most homey place so far from home. All three of us who stayed there would recommended it to anyone travelling to Edinburgh in a heartbeat! And Craig, if you’re reading this, you rock!!

Very friendly and helpful host. He gave us a rundown of the city and even let us keep our car there the next day as we explored Edinburg. We appreciated having access to the kitchen and the complimentary coffee, water and snacks. Would stay there again.

Due to recent changes to layout I struggled to find entrance but reception told me to sit nearby in car and they sent someone to find me. That was really appreciated thank you.

Pillars House was a great stay in Edinburgh. The staff was super friendly and helpful and the accommodations themselves were clean and spacious. We would certainly stay here again on another visit.

I had a friendly welcome, great that I could check in at noon and I was given a room at the back of the hotel on the first (top) floor. Fair sized family room with a double and single bed, attic style window with roller blind, basic key operated safe and fridge stocked with complimentary juices, water and milk were the key features. Food offerings included flavoured croissants and mini packs of biscuits. Small old fashioned en suite with toiletries and ample towels. The beds were too short for someone 6ft or taller, lots of creaking floorboards and paper thin walls. I was unlucky with inconsiderate neighbours, who didn't stop talking or have the tv at a reasonable volume until they went to sleep. Even then I could hear snoring/ sighing through the thin walls. Ear plugs are essential, I would advise. The hotel is situated in a quiet area of Leith and there is a tram stop close by.

It was a really nice stay in the property. Comfortable and clean throughout, specially the room was really warm, so we did not struggle with cold. The en-suite bathroom and shower facilities up to the mark. Edna went extra mile to let us checked in earlier as we were tired from long journey. They also kept our luggage on request after we checked out, for few hours, so that we could wander freely around the town before our train departure. Last but not the least, excellent communication with the centre, tram is just in front of the house, so convenient, easy connection with airport and railway station. Halal food nearby.
Just one thing, I would try to avoid booking downstairs room if possible, as it can be noisy specifically at night time due to upstairs wooden floors. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended.

We visited Edinburgh in October and we had the best time ever!
The rooms were very clean and cute, it is very easy to get to all the spots you would want to visit during your stay, and also the owners are extremely kind and also willing to give you good recommandations regarding sight seeing spots and restaurants.
We are definitely planning to visit Edinburg another time and we would never even consider to sleep at another place.
Absolutely lovely!!
